Her Alpha Mate 58
Zack:
"Zack, we don't even know how far along I'm. So stop coddling me!"
I chuckled to myself and turned to my beautiful mate, who seemed very upset, though I didn't know why.
All I did was cook, clean... and basically do everything for her.
She sipped the herbal tea I'd made for her and glanced at me as I raised an eyebrow in amusement.
"Is something wrong, beautiful?" I asked, putting down my knife.
She growled softly and stamped her foot, "Don't you've anything else to do? You're an alpha. Don't you've paperwork to do or people to call?"
I shook my head, "Don't worry, I got up at four this morning so I could finish early."
"You just thought of everything, didn't you?" she snorted and rested her head on the island.
I kissed her on the top of her head, "You and our puppy are my top priority. I don't want you to overexert yourself or hurt yourself in any way. You're very sensitive right now."
She gave me a deadly look.
"And moody," I added, turning so I wouldn't have to see her staring at me like a dagger.
Even though I'd only found out she was pregnant yesterday, I could already feel my overprotective alpha instincts kicking in.
My wolf was very happy at the thought of a puppy, but he was also worried. He didn't want anything to go wrong, and if that meant wrapping Freya in several layers of bubble wrap, so be it.
The back door opened, and Chance and Reece stepped into the kitchen carrying bouquets of roses and small gift bags.
"Special delivery for the Luna," Chance said, his voice muffled by the flowers pressed against his face.
A wide smile formed on Freya's face as they placed the gifts in front of her.
The pack had found out about the pregnancy shortly after the incident with the stork, and they started leaving cards and flowers on our doorstep to congratulate us. It made me happy to know that my pack was as overjoyed as we were about the puppy. After all, he or she was destined to be the next Alpha.
"It's so sweet of them to send us these things," Freya gushed gratefully, carefully opening each envelope and looking at the little messages inside.
"Did you talk to Dr. Edward about an ultrasound?" asked Reece, reaching for a glass of water.
I nodded, "She said we could've it done this afternoon. We'll go after lunch. "
"You better hurry then. Your mom will want to frame the ultrasound pictures after she almost faints," Chance chuckled.
FLASHBACK:
Reece seemed shocked by the announcement, as he kept squeezing the teddy bear's paw.
Chance, on the other hand, was very calm, as if he'd learned that his own mate was pregnant.
Suddenly, I heard a woman's voice calling my name.
I frowned and saw my mother rushing toward us, panting heavily, "Zack, what's wrong?"
"What's wrong? You were supposed to tell us. You ran here like the pack was on fire or something," I explained, stroking her back reassuringly.
She shook her head and nodded at Chance,
"He mentally linked me and told me to get here as soon as possible."
I turned and looked at Chance, who looked embarrassed, "Really?"
He shrugged, "Well, she'd to find out soon."
"Find out what?" My mother asked excitedly.
"Honey, let her talk. You're getting upset for no reason," my father interrupted.
She gave him a dirty look, "Kennedy, shut up. I want to know..."
"You're going to be a father!"
My mother paused and stared at Reece, "You got Juilet pregnant?"
"What?" asked Reece, waking from his daze and staring at my mother in horror, "I don't even want puppies right now."
"What do you mean 'right now'? You better take responsibility for this puppy, Reece -"
"Mom."
"It takes two to tango, Reece. So you better not let Juilet down, or I'll find you and cut-"
"Mom!" I said loudly, finally getting her attention.
"What?" she threw her hands in the air, "Can't you see I'm trying to talk some sense into..."
She broke off when she noticed I was putting my hand on Freya's stomach. Freya and I suppressed our laughter as my mother's face turned pale. She covered her mouth with a shaky hand and slowly sat down on the porch steps.
My father grinned like a madman and quickly hugged Freya, "It's about time. I was wondering if I was going to die before I saw my grandson."
I rolled my eyes and patted him on the back as he hugged me, and just as he pulled away, my mother quickly stood up.
"Oh my goodness!"
Clearly, something had finally clicked in my mother's head.
END OF FLASHBACK
"To think she thought Juilet was pregnant," Chance snorted with laughter.
Reece growled at him, "Shut up. Juilet and I've already talked about puppies. We just want to wait a little longer."
"Well, whatever you do, I call it being a godmother," Freya interjected, giving Reece a sweet smile.
He groaned and banged his head against the cabinet a few times. They continued to joke at Reece's expense until Chance stood up and tapped his watch, "I have to go now. I have a date with Betty."
Reece stood up as well, "I have to go to practice now. The new pack warriors look promising, Zack."
I nodded in agreement, "That's good. It never hurts to have new blood."
The two of them left and I turned back to Freya, "Speaking of new blood, you should eat quickly so we can see what our pup looks like."
She raised an eyebrow and chewed half-heartedly on a celery stalk, "I do not know what you expect to see. Our puppy is probably the size of a bean."
"At least that's something," I murmured, kissing her on the cheek, "Now eat the lettuce. It's healthy and good for the puppy."
She grumbled, picked up her fork, and stabbed into the salad with great gusto.
***
"Alpha. Luna. Are you ready to see how your puppy is doing?" asked Dr. Edward putting on some gloves.
Freya gently squeezed my hand, trying to control herself, but it was clear that we were both very excited. I pressed my lips to her hand while the doctor rubbed some gel on her uterus.
"Alright, let us see what we have here."
Dr. Edward muttered, clicking some things on her computer and moving the wand around.
At the sight of the little round shape that appeared on the screen, we both took a breath. The thought of the little thing getting bigger and looking like a mini version of us was exciting.
This little creature was a product of our love for each other, and it took my breath away just thinking about it - knowing that we were able to create something so fascinating.
"Well," Dr. Edward said, "with human babies, you have to wait at least six weeks before you can hear the heartbeat. But since this is a puppy, you can hear the heartbeat as early as four weeks.
She moved the wand a little more and a soft thump filled the silent room.
My chest suddenly felt very warm as the thumping grew louder and overwhelmed my brain. It was like music to my ears.
Freya squeezed my hand tighter and gave me a sweet, tearful smile that warmed my heart even more. I leaned down to her and kissed her softly, "I love you, beautiful."
I moved down to her belly and kissed the part of her skin that was not covered in gel, "And I love you too, little one."
