Her Broken Mate 24

"Son, calm down," Seth's father said, putting his hand on his shoulder.

Seth shook his head and slapped the hand away. In a brittle but stern voice, he replied, "No, no ... It's my ... fault that she's so ... is! If I ... been stronger, she'd have ..."

His father firmly disagreed, his expression turning grim. "Seth, she didn't save you just so you'd feel it was your fault she was in surgery. She saved you because she loves you and because you're her mate. Sarah wouldn't approve of what you're doing," he said, interrupting Seth.

Seth took note of his words and considered them. His throat burned and ached from using his voice too much. He wasn't used to it, but eventually he'd be. Sometimes it cracked and he'd to croak his sentences.

The nurses stared at him with wide eyes, surprised that their alpha was speaking. His wolf eyes were off, and every time Seth met their gaze, they looked away and darted elsewhere.

He was on high alert, agitated and ranting, 'Mate, mate, mate.'

It was both unnerving and heartbreaking.
Knowing that your mate could die, and all because she jumped in front of you to catch the arrow.

What a selfless mate he has.

Finally, Seth calmed down enough to sit down. His father took a seat next to him, while Stella, his... Mother, sat a little further away from them. Her eyes met his father's before he averted his gaze and a frown appeared on his face. She just lowered her gaze and looked a little guilty.

Stella smelled of sweat and arousal for some reason, while his father looked disgusted but also relieved. He seemed at odds with his wolf, for his eyes kept turning brown.

Why was she here? Seth didn't want her here, Sarah certainly didn't either.

Then the thoughts stopped, realization dawned on him.

Why wasn't he afraid of his mother anymore?

'Because you overcame your fear, through the guidance of our mate,' said his wolf, Virus.

The thought of his mate made him gloomy again, he missed her in his arms, especially her personality. That was something he'd always looked forward to. Her looks were a bonus, but he didn't care. All he wanted was for her to come back alive to be his Luna.

Tired of what had happened, he fell asleep, hoping to see his mate in his dreams.

Growling and whimpering was all Seth heard as the five rogues surrounded him. With ease, he tore them apart and tossed them around like a rag doll. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Sarah running toward him in wolf form.

It pleased him to know that his mate was here to help, to keep him safe. He was about to trot to her, when he saw her leap to her feet.

His eyes widened as he saw her take the arrow for him.

The she-wolf who cheered him up when he was sad, the girl who looks tough on the outside but is as soft as a teddy bear, the girl who'd do anything to make him smile, his best friend who loved every mistake he ever had.

He watched the pain spread across her face. He heard the scream that came out of her. The blood that spread across her chest like a red flower blooming. Her beautiful eyes that looked deeply and lovingly into his before they closed.

The whole world stopped, and a surge of power flooded through him. Something he hadn't felt for so long, his wolf right behind him.

It automatically made him move, and he ran as fast as he could to his dying mate.

It sounded numb in his ears, his mouth opened at something that sounded alien even to his ears.

"SARAH!!!"

Seth woke up with a jolt and gasped.

His father and... Stella looked at him, and surprisingly, Emily and Ryan were here too. They were all curious as to why he was panting like he'd run a marathon.

When he recovered from his shock, he just waved them off and told them he was fine. That it was just a nightmare, a flashback of what had happened.

It seemed like the dreams were no longer peaceful without Sarah by his side, and they never will be. He couldn't imagine being with anyone else.

A groan of frustration escaped him before he hit the wall. Cracks appeared in the wall, pieces fell to the floor.

This is all Martha's fault, he's going to kill her.

'Wait a minute ... that reminds me. The last thing she said before Sarah examined Beatrice's body...what was that? I think she said that Jupiter did something much worse than reject her. We should question him about it.' expressed Virus, tilting his head.

'Hmm ... you're right. Sarah was grieving over the death of our pack members. So have I. She's also just as traumatized and maybe forgot to bring it up. A lot happened, after all.' Seth said, agreeing with Virus' words.

Virus nodded, 'We should talk to him when things calm down. Right now, we should focus on Mate.'

Sounds like a plan.

At that moment the surgeon left the room and walked toward them. Seth jumped up from his seat and walked toward him, his parents, Emily, and Ryan following close behind.

Tensely, they waited for him to speak.

The surgeon removed his mask and kept his gaze lowered, his neck showing submissively. With a deep, shaky inhale, he said softly, "Alpha, your mate is recovering well. She was lucky the arrow didn't pierce her heart."

They all cheered, overjoyed.

But then the surgeon raised a hand and said words that once again brought Seth's world to a halt.

"Luna Sarah is in a coma, and we don't know when she'll wake up."
