Her Broken Mate 50
Sarah cursed softly to herself. "Ryan, get all the women and children to safety. Those who want to fight, get them. But their safety comes first."
Her beta nodded resolutely at her command.
Her best friend, however, seemed to disagree. Emily frowned and looked annoyed. "I can collect them. I'm not completely useless yet."
Ryan shook his head in disagreement.
"Babe, you're pregnant with our puppy. I can protect you, and I know you're capable of it. But we're in uncharted waters right now. Who knows what could happen."
She relented, sighed, and shrugged. "Alright, let's get to safety." Before she rubbed her belly.
Sarah watched her two best friends disappear into the distance as they followed her orders.
She fell silent and realized that she needed to find her mate, and fast.
She ran through the halls, linking all the pack members in her mind so they could get to safety and the warriors could get dressed.
When she emerged from the pack house, she was greeted by pure chaos.
Damn it, where was Seth?
Suddenly she was attacked from behind.
She growled, quickly turned around and kicked her attacker in the balls. A pained scream left the hybrid's mouth before he slumped limply, clutching his jewels and shaking.
Grinning, she turned away and leapt into the air, transforming into her wolf form. Where was Seth? Her wolf cried out desperately for her mate.
'Mate, mate, mate...' chanted Thunder. Her whimpering could be heard clearly.
Sarah suddenly felt a sharp pain in her arm, but it wasn't her pain.
Oh God... she turned around and her eyes finally fell on her mate. Martha was attacking him, her claws scratching at his arms.
He dodged and tried to talk to her about Jupiter, but she wouldn't let him.
She quickly ran to her mate and kicked Martha in the back of the knee. Martha wasn't pleased with her fall and hissed at Sarah as she tried to hold her down.
Seth, standing behind her, moved quickly and stood over her. His wolf ears lay apartment as he flashed his canines at her.
"How pure... Seth. You're sacrificing yourself?" said Martha, letting out a laugh. She dusted off her pants, stood up and stared at them, bored.
Her mate's wolf growled and hovered over her wolf form.
Suddenly, a voice sounded behind them.
"Alpha, I've the traitor right here. Just like you asked."
Sarah turned slowly and her eyes met the guard holding Jupiter at his trial.
His name was Noah. He was the guard who'd replaced Ludovic. He was the new leader of the pack warriors. He was middle-aged, the same age as Martha and Jupiter.
Seth turned his gaze to Noah as if to connect him. Whatever it was, Noah quickly threw Jupiter at Martha's feet. The old man stumbled as fear showed in his eyes.
"What's it?" asked Martha, staring at them.
Seth resumed his human form and carefully explained to Martha, who was standing next to him.
"One deal. You stop attacking the pack and leave us alone. Your crimes will be forgiven and forgotten. Look... no one wins in war. We'll all have our losses. You're fighting with Jupiter. These people are innocent."
Martha opened her mouth to reply before quickly closing it again. She remained silent as her gaze drifted to Noah.
Sarah raised an eyebrow, not understanding why she didn't answer.
And to her surprise, she soon understood why.
"Mate..." muttered Noah. His eyes turned black as a small smile crept onto his face.
Martha froze as she returned the same. She blinked a few times, her face turning pale. "Impossible."
Noah stared at her, aghast, "I'd transferred to them from another pack not too long ago. I was a captain in training, but there were a few others and since... the previous captain had passed away, I took his place." he smiled again, "I've been looking for you my whole life..."
Martha took a step back, her face still full of shock.
It was as if they were in their own little world, but that soon stopped as a pained gasp escaped Martha.
Jupiter had stabbed her in the side with Wolf's Bane.
When they were all occupied and distracted, the old man apparently set out to kill Martha. Along the way, he'd hidden some wolf bane. How he'd gotten it was very suspicious... but Sarah knew someone who'd have been willing to go to the trouble of giving it to him.
Martha staggered, but managed to grab it and throw it next to Noah.
Enraged, Noah roared and stared Jupiter straight in the eye. Jupiter panicked and screamed, "Seth! I'm your father! Stop this right now! It's her fault, you know it! That bitch has got to die!" The old man looked at her with pleading eyes. "Sarah, I've done so much for you. Save me, damn you! I won't go like this!"
Noah, fed up with the screaming and spit flying everywhere, rolled his eyes and jerked Jupiter's head to the side.
Sarah let out a scream while Seth turned his head away and closed his eyes with his jaw clenched.
They knew Jupiter was going to die, but were surprised at how suddenly it happened.
Noah dropped the lifeless man, tossed him aside like a rag doll, and ran to his mate.
Seth and Sarah stood there and watched the whole scene unfold. In the meantime, Martha seemed to have made all her warriors stop by thought transmission. They all froze in confusion. Most of them dropped their weapons and listened to their leader.
Sarah quickly followed and linked all the warriors of her pack with her thoughts to cease fire. The war was on standby.
"... Luna." murmured Noah. "My mate wishes to speak with you and Alpha."
Sarah nodded and looked at Seth.
They stepped closer to the pair and waited.
Martha smiled at them for the first time.
She was in Noah's arms, the bane of the wolf was no longer in her. As it had been taken out. Her wound began to close. "You have won. We surrender. I have accepted the bargain."
At that moment, the entire pack roared in victory. The warriors of the pack gathered around each other, hugged and cried.
Some, who were in their wolf form, howled in the air. Seth and Sarah smiled as he wrapped his arms around her waist.
Finally...it was over.
_ _ _
Several days had passed since the war.
Honestly, it was a true blessing that Noah was there. Sarah and Seth agreed that he had played a big part in the treaty.
Although some lives were lost, they honored it. There was some resentment between some wolves, but with all the packs mated together, it quickly disappeared. Some unmated wolves found their mates.
Martha had willingly resigned because she wanted to spend the rest of her days with her mate. She did not want to rule a pack and have to deal with territory, and much more. Noah and Martha lived far away from the pack, as some wolves still despised them for killing Ludovic and Beatrice. That soon changed because despite the agreement, Martha agreed to get punished. Her back was whipped with a hundred lashes of wolf's bane. Another punishment was the harsh and brutal training she had to endure over the next few months. So cruel that most would lose a limb in the process.
When the trial came up, she had fainted because of the pain. Her blood soaked the wood and filled the air with a thick iron smell.
Her mate was kept in a cellar so he could not see his mate's punishment. It would drive his wolf mad not to be able to protect her.
Martha's punishment had appeased the pack members who despised her.
Regardless of the outcome, all the dead received a proper burial. Their funerals were held, and the sun shone on them that very day. It was almost as if the moon goddess herself was expressing her sympathy to them.
That was not the only thing that happened, for they had to find out how Jupiter had gotten hold of the wolf's bane.
Seth and Sarah made inquiries and found out that the person who had given Jupiter the wolfsbane was none other than his mother Stella. She had hidden some wolfsbane from their eyes. She had hidden it for a long time until it was needed.
Over and over again they gave her a chance. She never seemed to learn, because after learning of Jupiter's death, she soon joined him. They did not get a chance to confront her when they found her body next to his grave. She had taken an overdose of wolf's bane, tears streaming down her face.
It was a dark day for Seth, because even though his parents were cruel to him, they were still his parents.
Despite his pain, Sarah stayed by his side.
Because now everything will really be okay.
