Chapter 105 Fate
Ethan turned to Connor, "Take the coffin back to Boulder. Today, the Miller family will not accept this gift from you!"
Connor could only nod his head with an ugly expression, feeling unwilling yet helpless.
After a long while, Remington finally got up from the ground, his face full of frustration, "I lost today, but if there's a chance, I'll seek your guidance again!"
With that, he and Connor immediately took the coffin and boarded the helicopter, leaving the cruise ship.
Applause broke out, led by Joseph Miller and Ruben.
Henry's face was ugly, looking so uncomfortable one would think he had swallowed a dead fly. He had not expected Ethan to have such strong martial prowess, to actually defeat Remington, whom even Logan could not match!
"At last, a decent master," Ethan thought to himself, feeling somewhat relieved after the fight.
Bernice's expression was the most complex. She looked deeply at Ethan's figure, her mind a whirl of thoughts.
After a while, she muttered to herself, "Being skilled in combat is no big deal. In today's society, it's wealth and power that count, not martial strength!"
"How many people can one person fight at a time, no matter how strong they are?"
"Can they defeat guns, or planes and cannons?"
The glimmers of brilliance that Ethan displayed complicated her feelings, and she even found it difficult to admit that there might be something wrong with her judgment, instead finding excuses to avoid the truth.
Bernice firmly believed that the man she needed was not a mere warrior, but someone who could strategize in the business world or turn the tide in politics.
"Mr. McKellen, we really owe you one this time. From now on, you are a friend of the Miller family. If there's anything you need, you can count on the Miller family to sort it out!" Ruben's attitude towards Ethan had also become much more polite.
Barbara was all smiles, saying, "Thank you, I really wouldn't want to receive such a birthday present. The Watson family has gone too far!"
At this point, no one dared to look down on Ethan, the out-of-place fellow at the grand banquet in casual attire.
Dorothy waited until he had finished talking with the Miller family before coming over and pulling at him, asking, "Are you hurt?"
"If my eyes were useless, I would donate them. Didn't you see that it was Remington who got hurt?" Ethan said, brimming with confidence.
Dorothy's mouth twitched, and she suddenly felt annoyed. She had come over with good intentions to show concern and this was how he responded?
"Jerk, I won't care about you anymore!" Dorothy prepared to kick Ethan's shin.
Naturally, Ethan wasn't going to just stand there and be kicked. He shifted his leg, letting her foot miss.
Dorothy thought to herself, ‘If she could beat Ethan, she would definitely give him a thrashing!’
"Just joking with you, don't be mad," Ethan said with a relaxed and cheerful smile while patting Dorothy's shoulder.
"Is Barbara that pretty? Is she worth you risking your life for her? Didn't you see how strong Remington was? What if you had made a mistake?" Dorothy immediately got excited, bombarding Ethan with a barrage of questions, leaving him completely bewildered.
Barbara was indeed beautiful, and her background was evident for all to see—her father was the city's mayor, and her uncle was a tycoon.
The Miller family might not be as colossal as the Walsh or Lee families, but they had a deep and substantial foundation.
It could be said that Barbara was the kind of woman countless men dreamed of marrying. To marry her meant to gain the connections and influence of the Miller family.
However, Ethan had never thought about it in that way. Helping Barbara was simply a matter of treating her as a friend, and he felt that the Watson family sending a coffin as a birthday present was indeed in poor taste.
Dorothy was about to lose her temper when she noticed Ethan's eyes fixedly staring, causing her to blush and turn away, exclaiming, "Why don’t you take a picture, it will last longer?!"
"Maybe I will!" Ethan withdrew his gaze and smiled.
Just now, her emotional outburst and animated gestures had naturally caused her chest, which was unusual in itself, to heave dramatically, which Ethan found quite pleasing to the eye.
Ethan stepped forward, gently placing his hand on Dorothy's shoulder, still with a smile on his face, "Alright, I know you're concerned about me, and I appreciate the sentiment. But you don't need to worry about me; I'm quite capable!"
"Who's worried about you? I'm just concerned that Bernice might end up a widow!" Dorothy retorted with feigned indifference.
The cruise ship returned to the harbor at the end of the dinner party, docking around ten o'clock in the evening.
"Ethan, let's keep in touch!" Barbara said to Ethan with a beaming smile as he disembarked.
Henry, standing not too far away, heard this and shuddered with anger, yet he said nothing.
He had said on the ship that he would make Ethan pay after the dinner party was over, but the strength Ethan displayed in defeating Remington made him wary.
Jealousy had to be set aside for now; he would have to wait for another opportunity.
"Henry, weren't you going to teach me a lesson? Why are you leaving so quickly?" Ethan called out to Henry, who was ahead of him.
Henry pretended not to hear, went straight to his car, and left quickly.
Sitting in the car, Henry clenched his fists tightly and muttered to himself, "Don't think you can act recklessly just because you have some fighting skills! The Bush family has many experts. And besides, having martial arts skills without power is ultimately just being a mere warrior."
Bernice asked Ethan, "Where are you going?"
"Home," Ethan glanced at her, preparing to get into Dorothy's car and have her drive him.
"I'll drive you home," Bernice offered.
Ethan was surprised that Bernice was taking an interest in him and even willing to drive him home.
Dorothy felt a sense of unease. If Bernice drove Ethan back to Sky Villa, would she change her mind? If Bernice's attitude changed and she took the initiative, given their respective statuses, Dorothy knew she would have no advantage or opportunity.
"What's the address?" Bernice asked as she took the driver's seat.
"Sky Villa," Ethan replied.
"Huh?!" Bernice was surprised upon hearing this and her eyes widened.
However, this time, she didn't question him. She silently started the car and headed straight for Sky Villa.
Dorothy sighed helplessly, deciding to just leave it all up to fate.
"Miss Bush, this is Ethan's wallet. It fell on the deck when he was fighting with Remington," at that moment, Edwin hurried down from the ship, unable to find Ethan, he could only call Dorothy over.
Dorothy took the wallet and smiled, "Thanks, Edwin!"
"No problem. Do you need someone to escort you, Miss Bush?" Edwin asked.
"No, that's not necessary..." Dorothy shook her head, still feeling a bit downcast.
She returned to her car and opened Ethan's wallet, casually flipping through it. Aside from some ID and a few bills, she saw a card key inside.
"A Sky Villa card key?!" Upon seeing the card key, the gloom on Dorothy's face was swept away.
"I guess fate really is on my side!"
