Chapter 055 Beautiful Dream
"Why, can't you speak? Are you scared because the bet I presented is too big? Don't burden yourself mentally, because you can't possibly win the five million dollars, let alone cure Miss Miller within an hour!" Ryan sneered, staring at Ethan.
"You are just a fraud, a poor fraud at most!" Ethan calmly responded.
"No, I just find it strange that a stranger would want to give me five million dollars for no reason," he added.
As soon as he said this, everyone was stunned.
Although his tone was calm, his words were infuriating. It almost gave certain people present a cerebral hemorrhage!
"Fine, if you have what it takes, then take my money! As long as you can cure Miss Miller within an hour!" Ryan said sharply.
Having studied psychology for many years and treated numerous patients with psychological disorders, it was quite rare to come across cases like Barbara's. Moreover, these types of conditions often required a lot of time and effort to treat. Ryan wouldn't believe it, even if he was beaten to death, that Ethan could cure her within an hour, let alone put five million dollars at stake.
"Master..." Joseph coughed and asked.
"Well, let's do as he says!" Ethan shrugged indifferently. "If I win, I'll take his five million dollars. If I lose, I'll kneel down and admit I'm a fraud."
Ryan sneered and said, "It's not that simple. If you lose, besides kneeling down and admitting you're a fraud, you have to publish it in the news, let the whole world know you're a fraud!"
Ethan snapped his fingers and said, "So it's decided then. I will immediately start treating Miss Miller. Joseph will be the witness to this bet, and we have one hour as our deadline."
"Okay!" Joseph immediately agreed.
Cara looked at Ethan coldly. She didn't believe that Ethan had the ability to accomplish what Ryan couldn't.
It was obvious that Ethan only agreed so readily because Ryan had pushed him to the edge of a cliff, forcing him to tough it out.
"I'm going to treat Miss Miller now. Don't disturb me for an hour. I will come out after one hour," Ethan calmly stated.
"No problem!" Joseph readily agreed.
Edwin hesitated a bit. After all, it seemed inappropriate to let Ethan stay in the same room as his sister...
But he didn't dare say more, for fear that Ethan would really leave.
"Putting on a show!" Ryan sneered, waiting for the hour to pass when Ethan's true identity would be revealed.
After entering the room, Ethan pulled up the curtains and looked at Barbara, who was stunned. He calmly said, "Have you been having frequent nightmares recently? Dreams of your deceased mother who often blames you, causing you to contemplate suicide?"
Barbara couldn't help but raise her head and glanced at Ethan. Under her disheveled hair, there was a tired face.
"How... How did you know?" Barbara stammered, not having spoken for so long.
"Somebody is using dark magic to harm you. Think about it, which mother doesn't want their child to live a good life?" Ethan sighed.
Barbara fell silent and curled up, holding her knees tightly.
"Look into my eyes," Ethan suddenly said.
Barbara instinctively looked up and locked eyes with him. In that moment, her eyes immediately grew perplexed.
In Buddhism, there were cases where accomplished monks performed a ritual known as "empowerment," a form of hypnosis, to influence the mind and transmit the teachings of Buddhism.
Ethan was now essentially giving Barbara an empowerment, and his powerful psychic energy was jaw-dropping. In just one glance, he had successfully hypnotized Barbara.
"Go to sleep. You will see your mother again, and she will say the things she truly wants to say to you," Ethan reached out and tapped Barbara's forehead.
Barbara's body slumped down onto the bed and fell into a deep sleep.
Ethan didn't make any further movements and quietly sat down, cross-legged.
Barbara slept soundly, breathing steadily. The longer she slept, the better her complexion became. The wisp of dark energy lingering between her brows gradually dissipated.
Witnessing this scene, Ethan couldn't help but relax a little.
In a situation like this, those with higher energy levels have stronger vitality and are more capable of suppressing this devilish aura.
"There's no sound coming from inside. Could there be something wrong?" Edwin was standing at the door, listening anxiously. The complete silence inside made him extremely worried.
"Master surely has his own unique methods. You don't need to be nervous," Joseph reassured his son while feeling quite anxious himself.
As he spoke, Joseph couldn't help but recall the scene of his first encounter with Ethan, when he had initially been skeptical of him. But in the end, Ethan had saved his life.
Cara sat nearby, wondering what would happen if Ethan couldn't cure Barbara's illness within an hour. How would she explain to Joseph and Edwin?
As for Ryan, he was already convinced that Ethan was playing games inside. Otherwise, how could there be no sounds at all?
"That prison guard probably has nothing better to do and is daydreaming with Miss Miller. What does he know about psychology?" Ryan sneered with contempt, wearing a cold smile on his face.
Time ticked away, and the hour was about to come to an end.
Barbara curled up on the bed, still asleep but no longer as peaceful. She began to shed tears, seemingly dreaming of something.
"Mom, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have been so willful back then..." Barbara spoke while shedding tears, talking in her sleep.
Ethan glanced at the time and, precisely after an hour, stood up and walked to the window. With a whoosh, he yanked the curtains open!
Outside, the dazzling sunlight poured into the room, waking Barbara up.
When she woke up, her face was streaked with tears, and she had a perplexed expression.
"Now you must be feeling much better, right?" Ethan enquired as he turned his head to face her.
"Thank you." Barbara looked at Ethan, as if she had abandoned her inner demons, completely transformed with a whole new demeanor.
"You're welcome." Ethan smiled faintly.
At this moment, Joseph opened the door.
Ryan couldn't wait and walked in first, mocking, "The hour is up. Kneel down and hand over the five million dollars!"
