Chapter 020 Ruthless
Ethan hadn't expected that his words yesterday hadn't registered with anyone in the Smith family, but Dorothy took them seriously and conducted a thorough investigation.
He nodded slightly and said, "Since you've investigated, why not hand over the investigation results to Bernice and let them withdraw the investment."
On the Smith family's side, under Norton's persuasion, they invested at least thirty million dollars, with Bernice alone contributing twenty million dollars.
Bernice's position was already unstable. If the Jones Group were to run off with the money, she would likely face criticism and condemnation.
"The things I've investigated are just some traces, it's not convincing enough to present." Dorothy shook her head.
She didn't truly investigate anything, she simply believed Ethan's words when she saw him being escorted out by Joseph and the others.
After all, even Ethan said this was what Joseph personally said. Mayor Joseph oversees the large city of Boston, and he wouldn’t just speak without basis…
Ethan was also helpless and had to find another opportunity to persuade Robert again. After all, if this matter erupted, the loss would be significant.
Dorothy led Ethan into the pre-booked restaurant, a private cuisine establishment that only accommodated ten tables a day. It was said that the restaurant's reservations were booked for a month in advance.
"Can't seem to escape anywhere, huh?"
Ethan’s peripheral vision caught sight of a figure, Michelle. She was Diana's assistant, and if she was here, Diana was probably also present.
Diana was heavily injured during the capture of the Terror King, so she stayed in Boston to recuperate. Ethan would occasionally run into her, which troubled him.
Ethan didn't like Diana, specifically her arrogance and superiority. If she had been willing to sit down, have a cup of tea and have a proper conversation when they first met, and then break off their engagement, he wouldn't have any objections.
They could have been friends. But Diana acted as if Ethan owed her money, that kind of domineering and degrading attitude truly made him want to throw her in jail for a few days.
After sitting down, Ethan's ears moved slightly, and he overheard Diana talking with another woman.
"Cara, why did you suddenly come to Boston? Weren't you doing well in Kyoto?" Diana asked.
"Of course, there's no harm in seizing opportunities, right!" Cara Lee said with a faint smile.
Just by hearing her voice and name, Ethan knew that this woman was probably just as arrogant as Diana, one of those truly conceited types.
He was just about to ignore their conversation when he heard the words "the Aim Group," causing his eyebrows to raise slightly.
"You have your eyes on the Aim Group? I've heard of this organization, it's not easy to deal with them. Its owner is called Ella Anderson, and she seems to be a ruthless character..." Diana's voice carried a hint of contemplation.
"Now, the Aim Group is being suppressed by the Tiger Group. Ella, with her unyielding and uncompromising character, sees it as a good opportunity to take over." Cara confidently smiled.
"The Tiger Group? Their assets don't seem to surpass those of the Aim Group. How can they suppress the Aim Group?" Diana wondered aloud.
Cara explained, "The Tiger Group relied on the Tiger Gang to grow. Do you think they can't suppress the Aim Group?"
Diana calmly replied, "That's not surprising. It's a good method to profit from the situation."
Listening to this, Ethan couldn't help but sigh silently. The Aim Group is the Anderson family's business.
Anthony was a wealthy heir, who didn't stick to legitimate business but dabbled in arms trade fearlessly. He most likely, got carried away and embezzled a batch of firearms worth millions from a powerful warlord.
Naturally, the warlord wouldn't let it slide, and soon after, sent people to wipe out Anthony's whole family, leaving only Anthony and his sister Ella.
After such a major incident involving the Aim Group, relatives came to fight over the property.
Ella appeared before the board of directors with her parent's ashes and expelled these relatives, taking over the reins of power. Anthony was imprisoned due to the incident and still hasn't received forgiveness from Ella.
When Ethan came out of prison, Anthony, who had been seriously ill due to various setbacks, weakly asked Ethan for help, hoping he could take care of Ella, if given the chance.
"What are you thinking?" Dorothy noticed Ethan's absent-mindedness and lightly tapped his wrist with chopsticks.
"Nothing." Ethan snapped out of his thoughts and realized that Dorothy was sitting very close to him, their thighs almost touching.
However, Ethan didn't pay much attention to it. His mind drifted, picturing what Ella should look like.
Anthony was an honest person in prison, and he had a good relationship with Ethan. He would even help him with prison affairs. So, Ethan agreed to help him with this favor.
"It seems like I have to meet Ella..." Ethan murmured.
"Ella! You know Ella?!" Dorothy glanced at Ethan, surprised.
Ethan nodded and asked, "What's wrong? Is it strange to know her?"
Dorothy's expression became strange, and she slowly replied, "She's quite ruthless. I can't say we're friends, but I can reluctantly say that I know her..."
"Ruthless?" Ethan smiled and asked.
"Ella's family has seen its fair share of feuds and power struggles. She's tough and has a reputation for being merciless," Dorothy explained.
“A tragic accident led to the untimely death of Ella's parents, and her relatives took the opportunity to fight for power. As a result, Ella made an appearance at the board meeting holding her parents' ashes and uttered a bone-chilling remark that remains widely circulated in the Boston business community to this day,” Dorothy said.
Ethan, listening intently, gestured for her to continue.
Dorothy continued, "Her relatives accused her of being unfilial for seeking power so soon after her parent's passing. And then, Ella replied with a sentence... "My parents were cremated, trespasses will not be forgotten so easily!"
Upon hearing this, Ethan involuntarily raised an eyebrow.
The ruthlessness conveyed in that simple sentence left him with a tremendous sense of shock!
"Do you intend to approach Ella? Are you planning to be a scumbag? However, she isn't easy to deal with. With a personality like hers, she doesn't even have any friends," Dorothy said.
"A scumbag? Bernice and I don't have anything between us except for the marriage in name only," Ethan frowned and sighed helplessly.
Noticing Ethan's troubled expression, Dorothy couldn't help but ask, "Are you planning to just be Bernice's husband by name?"
"I already mentioned yesterday that everything depends on fate. When the connection ends, I will naturally leave," Ethan replied.
"In that case, it seems you are indeed a scumbag!" Dorothy couldn't help but laugh, revealing her white and neatly aligned small teeth.
Ethan remained calm.
Dorothy's thigh accidentally brushed against Ethan's leg, and the warm sensation transferred over. She had a beautiful smile on her face, with a hint of blush.
"In that case, could you care about me for a moment?" Dorothy said with an ambiguous tone.
Ethan was startled and then his attention was drawn to Diana's voice. He heard her say, "If you encounter any tricky situation, you can approach me."
Ethan sneered; it seemed like Diana was ready to interfere with The Aim Group's affairs. Well, that worked out perfectly. He could use this confrontation as an opportunity to severely dampen her spirit!
