Chapter 093 Up the Ante
Ethan remained unfazed and continued to stand beside the card table.
Ethan's actions infuriated Bernice and she scolded him in a low voice, "What are you doing? Do you think you can get involved in matters involving such individuals?"
"They're ganging up on my boss. Should I just stand by and watch?" Ethan said casually.
Bernice was almost on the verge of collapsing from anger and said, "You know they're bullying your boss! If they dare to bully your boss, what do you think you are compared to them?"
A faint smile curled Ethan's lips as he calmly replied, "I think I'm their daddy."
"You fool!" Tom's voice turned cold as his eyes sharpened with killing intent.
"Are you seeking death? If you act like a clown, don't expect me to respect Diana," Cara said icily.
Upon hearing Ethan's words, everyone held their breath.
"This guy is too arrogant. He actually said such things! Is he looking to die?"
"I've never seen such an idiot who dares to call himself the father of two important figures. I bet he'll be thrown into the sea to feed the sharks."
"How did such a fool manage to get on board? Shouldn't the mayor throw him into the sea and let him swim back on his own?"
Dorothy couldn't help but smile bitterly and shake her head upon hearing the comments around her. That's just Ethan's temperament.
If you are polite with him, he can speak nicely. But if you confront him head-on, his words can make you furious.
Ella said, "Rules can be changed, as long as the price is enough!"
She clenched her fist slightly and said, "I'll let Ethan play this game for me, and I'm willing to put up 10% equity as a bet!"
Dorothy was stunned, unable to imagine Ella would boldly offer 10% of the shares just for him to join the game openly. How much would 10% of Aim Group, a high-quality company, be worth? A billion dollars? Two billion dollars? Or maybe thirty billion dollars?
Bernice was also taken aback. Ella, a person who seemed unreachable to her, was actually willing to offer 10% of the shares to let Ethan participate in this game!
"Has Miss Anderson lost her mind? She's practically giving away equity for free!"
"Miss Anderson must be out of her mind to believe in such an unreliable guy."
"Yeah, this guy seems totally incapable, not even dressed properly. Can he even play?"
Cara squinted her eyes and coldly asked, "Ella, are you sure about this?"
Ignoring the question, Ella turned to Bernice, "Miss Smith, I need to borrow your husband to play this game for me."
"Alright..." Bernice agreed in a daze, letting go of Ethan and walking away.
Tom spoke in a deep voice, "Since Miss Anderson brought in external assistance, can Miss Lee and I also bring in some?"
"Bring in whoever you want, just hurry up," Ethan impatiently sat next to Ella and absentmindedly played with two chips between his fingers.
Seeing Ethan sitting at this table where three business giants gathered, Bernice felt it was surreal.
Dorothy walked up to Bernice and said, "Bernice, Mr. McKellen is from the Aim Group, he's representing his boss. You better not interfere."
Bernice became agitated and gritted her teeth, "Dorothy, did you hear that? Miss Anderson is putting up 10% equity to let him join the game! I don't know why Miss Anderson believes in him so much! But what if he loses? What then? He will lose that 10% to the other side. Can he afford to compensate if Miss Anderson pursues it? We can't afford it even if we sold the entire Smith family!"
Dorothy paused for a moment, then reached out and patted Bernice's back, saying, "You need to have more patience and faith in him. Otherwise, one day, you will regret your words and actions. I'm being serious, don't think I'm joking."
Though Dorothy had the intention to seize the opportunity, she couldn't help but offer some advice to Bernice.
These two sentences, after all, were spoken between two good friends.
By making things clear, there won't be much for Bernice to say even if Dorothy truly pursued Ethan in the future.
Bernice scoffed coldly, saying, "Dorothy, I don't know what he has told you... but the kind of person he is, I know it best!"
Dorothy remained silent.
"Even his wife doesn't believe in him, thinks he's useless. I really wonder what Miss Anderson is thinking."
"I'd rather believe in anything than trust this guy!"
"Yeah... This person is so unreliable. Even his wife doesn't trust him, so what ability could he possibly have?"
After hearing these words, Bernice kept a stern face without speaking.
Dorothy felt that if Bernice frequently spoke similar words in public, then the day she would part ways with Ethan was truly not far away.
Although Ethan always seemed completely indifferent, one's patience does have its limits.
Cara spoke up, "Miss Anderson, this is the mayor's party, he definitely wouldn't want to see us fighting over a verbal promise. So, are you sure?"
Ella just sneered arrogantly without saying a word.
"Alright, since Miss Anderson has made up her mind. Then we won't hold back either!" Cara said coldly.
After saying this, she turned to Tom and said, "Please bring Alfredo to meet with us on behalf of the Lee Group!"
This statement immediately caused a commotion!
"Alfredo? My goodness, Miss Lee's connections are too terrifying. To actually invite the gambling legend Alfredo?"
"The gambling legend Alfredo? Heir of the gambling king's family."
"Not only that, Alfredo has swept the domestic and international gambling scenes, countless big shots have lost to him."
Upon hearing this name, Ella couldn't help but feel her eyelids twitch and couldn't resist turning her head to look at Ethan.
There, Ethan remained cool and calm, lazily lounging in his chair, wearing a rather impatient expression.
Dorothy and Bernice both felt a jolt in their hearts upon realizing that Cara and Tom had actually invited such reinforcement. How could they still stand a chance in this game?!
There's a saying, "Never challenge someone's profession with your own hobbies!"
Alfredo is one of America's top card players. What does Ethan have to compete with him?
