Chapter 091 Bumpy Ride

Barbara's birthday party was going to be held on a cruise ship, which was currently a few hundred kilometers overseas and required about an hour's helicopter ride to reach.

After the three of them boarded the helicopter, a few other invited wealthy families also arrived by helicopter.

Inside, the seats immediately became crowded, and Dorothy, Bernice, and Ethan had to sit together in one row.

"You can sit opposite me," Bernice pursed her lips and said.

Ethan didn't mind, but Dorothy pulled him to sit beside her, not next to Bernice.

"It's better for the three of us who know each other to sit together. Although Mr. McKellen is not wearing formal attire, his clothes are not shabby either," Dorothy said openly.

Bernice glanced at Dorothy in surprise. Her best friend had just disregarded Ethan recently, so why was her attitude changing so much now? She didn't want to sit next to him, but Dorothy seemed happy to and even helped initiate the conversation.

Then Ethan realized that Bernice probably thought he was dressed inappropriately and didn't want to sit with him. However, he didn't really care about these things and simply smiled it off.

Upon seeing Ethan in casual attire, the people who had just boarded the helicopter were all surprised, some disdainful, while others were puzzled.

This was the first time the mayor held such a large-scale birthday party for his daughter, and this person was dressed in casual clothes? What was going on?

Seeing the looks they were receiving, Bernice couldn't help but feel especially embarrassed. Fortunately, Ethan didn't have a label on his forehead saying, "Bernice is my wife" or anything like that.

Dorothy, on the other hand, was carefree. She took off her noise-canceling headphones and chatted and laughed with Ethan.

"Mr. McKellen, if you don't have appropriate clothes for future events like this, just give me a call. I'll have a tailor make them for you."

"Or you can buy ready-made ones," Dorothy chuckled.

"No need, I don't really like wearing formal attire," Ethan said calmly, showing no interest in these things.

As the helicopter ascended and reached the open sea, everyone's gaze fell upon the window, where an endless sea view brought a serene feeling to their hearts.

However, strong winds blew high up in the sky, causing the helicopter to jolt violently.

Dorothy's body was thrown into Ethan's arms, and instinctively, her left hand reached out and coincidentally landed on Ethan's lower abdomen. Her graceful figure collided directly into him.

"Damn!" Ethan couldn't help but let out a low growl, but fortunately, the sound of the rotor blades spinning was loud enough that everyone was wearing noise-canceling headphones, so they couldn't hear a thing.

Dorothy quickly retracted her hand, her face filled with embarrassment.

Bernice took off her headphones and asked loudly, "Dorothy, are you alright?"

"I'm fine, I'm fine..." Dorothy hurriedly replied.

Seeing that Ethan's complexion didn't look right, Bernice wanted to inquire about his well-being as well, but after thinking it over, she decided against it.

Noticing a hint of pain on Ethan's face, Dorothy asked, "Are you alright? Did I hurt you? Do you want me to massage it for you?"

"No need!" Ethan replied in a bad mood. The sudden attack caught him completely off guard.

He took a few deep breaths, easing the pain a little.

Dorothy also felt guilty. Leaning against Ethan's arm with half of her body, she apologetically said, "Sorry, Mr. McKellen, I didn't mean to! If you're not satisfied, you can hit me too."

Her voice was pleasant, carrying a hint of magnetism, giving off a soft and inviting feeling.

Feeling the warmth and softness leaning against his arm, accompanied by words of consolation in his ears, Ethan didn't feel as much pain anymore.

"The voice is so loud... No, no, the chest sounds so melodious... Huh? What am I thinking?" He shook his head and moved towards the door, trying to get rid of the state of having legs on his mind.

However, the seats in the entire cabin were only this size, so moving didn't make much difference.

After several encounters with gusts of sea wind, bumps and collisions were unavoidable. After a few bumps, even Dorothy's face slightly blushed.

"The piloting skills are so poor!" After her chest forcefully collided with Ethan's arm once again, Dorothy couldn't help but silently criticize.

Although Bernice didn't talk much along the way, she noticed that Dorothy was always chatting with Ethan, which puzzled her. Why were Dorothy and Ethan so familiar with each other?

"Dorothy, why are you always talking to him?" Bernice asked.

"I think Mr. McKellen is quite nice. Why? Are you jealous?" Dorothy smiled teasingly.

The sound of the propellers drowned out the whispers, making it impossible for outsiders to hear. However, Ethan's hearing was extraordinary, allowing him to hear everything clearly.

Bernice sneered and said, "He is not worthy! Do you think a marriage certificate can bind me for the rest of my life?"

Dorothy responded, "Some people are like hidden gems. You need to observe carefully to discover the surprises. I think you should take a serious look at him."

"Forget it," Bernice shook her head, "This was my father's idea. I'm not interested in him, and he's not worthy of me either."

Dorothy laughed and half-jokingly said, "If you don't want him, then I'll take him. Don't blame me later!"

"If you fancy him that much, then he's all yours!" Bernice sneered, considering Dorothy's words as a joke.

"That's not a bad idea. After all, I don't have a boyfriend either," Dorothy said cheerfully.

Bernice rolled her eyes at her and said, "Your father has introduced you to plenty of outstanding men, so don't mock me!"

Ethan understood clearly what they were saying, and although he had anticipated it, hearing Bernice speak those words still made him feel somewhat unhappy. Soon, everyone's attention was drawn to a massive cruise ship.

"They really are wealthy!" Dorothy couldn't help but exclaim.

"Of course, the mayor's older brother is a famous businessman who has been ranked on the Forbes rich list for many years," Bernice explained.

The helicopter landed on the helipad, and naturally, Ethan, who was closest to the door, was the first to jump out. He then reached out his hand and caught Dorothy's hand to help her off the aircraft.

"Thank you, Mr. McKellen!" Dorothy subtly extended her hand and lightly slapped Ethan's butt when she landed, teasing him playfully. Bernice watched Ethan reaching out his hand to assist Dorothy and couldn't help but raise an eyebrow.

Then, with an air of defiance, she muttered to herself, "I'm not jealous at all. With someone like him, there's nothing to be jealous of. Besides, would Dorothy even be interested in him?"

Faced with Ethan's outstretched hand, Bernice simply ignored it and got off the helicopter, holding onto the door instead. Ethan didn't feel embarrassed and just withdrew his hand. This scene made everyone on the same plane burst into laughter.

"Dressed like that, and still trying to portray a gentleman? A true gentleman needs money to be counted as one. Otherwise, at best, he'll just be a poor man," a wealthy lady chuckled softly, covering her mouth.
