Chapter 053 Barbara's Illness
Ethan wore a stern expression and remained silent.
Joseph coughed and said, "Master..."
Ethan said, "Mayor, do you believe what I just said?"
Joseph wanted to say that he believed, but Ryan had clearly brought about an improvement in Barbara's condition, making it impossible for Joseph to say such words against his conscience.
"Ethan, I know very well of your capabilities. You may have fooled the mayor, but you can't fool me!"
"If you truly possess these abilities, why would you be a powerless and penniless prison guard?"
"Mr. Thomas' reputation now resonates throughout Italy, and each treatment costs one hundred thousand dollars! If you truly possessed abilities superior to him, would you end up like this? Deceiving the mayor with some petty tricks and being shamelessly boastful, it's truly disgraceful and laughable!"
Cara said without courtesy, suspicion evident on her face.
She genuinely looked down upon Ethan and had also learned about this man from Diana and Michelle.
Ryan, unable to help himself, laughed scornfully and said, "Miss Lee, there's no need to pay attention to someone like him. I can completely handle Miss Miller's illness!"
Cara lifted her chin toward Ethan and coldly smirked, "Did you hear that?"
Edwin's face darkened.
"Hurry up and get out, you clown!" Ethan frowned and then shrugged slightly. He said, "Fine, if you want to joke about taking lives, I won't stop you. After something goes wrong, don't blame me for not warning you!"
"Master, I know you have abilities, but you should also understand the importance of being cautious with your words," Joseph couldn't help but speak, his tone a bit harsh.
Edwin angrily said, "You useless waste dare to curse my sister? Someone, drag him out and break his legs!"
But Joseph waved his hand and stopped Edwin, coldly saying, "Don't be too rude! Master, you can leave, I won't hold you responsible for this matter."
Ethan sneered and turned to leave.
"Dad, just look at what you've found, a piece of garbage. These scammers should be in jail to prevent them from going around harming people," Edwin incessantly complained.
"There are just too many scammers in America. People like this can't survive in our Italy," Ryan mockingly remarked.
Joseph smiled awkwardly and said, "Mr. Thomas, please continue treating my daughter."
In his heart, he couldn't help but feel somewhat disappointed in Ethan. It seemed that the last time was just a fluke.
He needed to have a talk with Thomas later to prevent him from being deceived again.
Ethan leisurely walked out of the room. He lived his life with a carefree attitude, and since no one believed him, he couldn't be bothered.
Although Barbara was a precious life, what could he do if they didn't allow him to save her?
"You scammer! Miss is already so pitiful, and you still want to harm her. If something really happens, won't your conscience condemn you?" The mayor's servant couldn't help but spit at Ethan after seeing him come out.
"It's thanks to the mayor's magnanimity; otherwise, this scammer would definitely be thrown into prison!"
"You're not even worthy of being a scammer!"
Ethan ignored these insults and continued at his own pace, calmly walking downstairs.
In the room, Ryan continued to use the same method to hypnotize Barbara after Ethan left, making her accept his subconscious suggestions in this half-awake state.
"Mr. Thomas truly deserves to be a psychology expert who has studied in Italy for so many years. He is indeed capable. I can see my sister's condition improving!" Edwin exclaimed with joy.
Although Barbara was in a half-awake state, she became gentle as she listened to Ryan's words. She nodded continuously and murmured softly.
Seeing this scene, Joseph's mood also improved. He nodded slightly and whispered to Cara, "Miss Lee is really thoughtful; she specifically invited such an expert from Italy for my daughter. I really don't know how to repay her!"
Upon hearing this, Cara couldn't help but feel delighted.
Joseph looked towards Edwin. Edwin thought to himself that he must properly deal with this conman Ethan. He couldn't believe that Ethan had deceived his own father and even dared to curse his sister.
"It seems that this is what it means to fall from grace. Once a distinguished McKellen family young master, now reduced to being a conman..." Cara thought, feeling even more disdainful.
No wonder Diana wouldn't look at such a man. Lack of background might be one thing, but more importantly, he had no ability to put on airs.
"Barbara, your mother wouldn't want to see you like this. She definitely hopes that you can recover and return to your normal life, not constantly living in the shadows of the past..." Ryan continued to guide Barbara, getting to the point.
But just at this moment, Barbara's eyes suddenly opened wide, looking at Ryan in a state of extreme fear.
Ryan was also taken aback. The hypnosis had been going smoothly from the beginning until now, everything had been going according to plan. So why did Barbara suddenly wake up?
Having treated many patients with psychological disorders, he had never encountered such a situation before.
Normally, in this state, Barbara would either require strong external intervention or have a violent conflict in her subconscious in order to wake up suddenly.
"What's going on?" Ryan was surprised, unable to react for a moment.
Barbara screamed and slapped Ryan across the face, leaving deep bloody scratches with her sharp nails.
"Sister!" Edwin couldn't help but be shocked, quickly moving forward, trying to hold Barbara and prevent her from acting recklessly.
But Barbara was incredibly agile, dodging out of the way and quickly running to the window, forcefully pulling the curtain aside and leaping out!
"Barbara!" Joseph shouted in despair, falling to his knees on the ground.
Barbara crashed through the window, her body descending freely from the second-story window over six meters high. Once she hit the ground in this spread-eagle freefall, it would undoubtedly be fatal, with her internal organs being crushed.
Cara and Ryan couldn't help but exclaim in shock, clearly not expecting Barbara to suddenly jump off the building in a suicide attempt.
"Mother, I'm coming to find you... I'm sorry, I shouldn't have argued with you that day." Barbara's tears flowed as she was suspended in the air, feeling a sense of imminent release.
Coincidentally, at this moment, Ethan strolled slowly to the entrance and heard the sound of glass shattering. He looked up and saw a figure descending from the sky.
He planted his feet firmly, raised his hands, and extended his right hand as if tentatively reaching for a peacock's tail, appearing cautious.
