Chapter 131 Aunt Clara's Family
Clara appeared to be in her thirties, sporting a luxuriant mane of black hair simply tied into a ponytail that conveyed a sense of refreshing simplicity. Her face had only a touch of makeup, almost indistinguishable from her natural look.
Though not extravagantly adorned, Clara possessed a natural beauty: fair skin with a touch of freckles, a slender and graceful figure, and a youthful attire that belied her true age, making her appear around thirty-one or thirty-two years old.
This was Clara's appearance without makeup. Should she choose to dress up, she would undoubtedly epitomize the alluring charm of a young matron.
"Hannah, it’s been half a year, and you've become even more beautiful," Sofia greeted her with a laugh. She wrapped an arm around Hannah in a tender embrace and affectionately stroked her hair.
"Sofia, you're the one who's truly becoming more beautiful, like a glamorous celebrity," Hannah said, visibly awed by Sofia's increasing charm. Her praise was sincere.
Kevin remembered that his cousin Hannah was probably only about 15 years old. She was at the stage where she should be in the ninth grade and nearing the transition to high school. He wondered how well the young girl had fared in her exams.
As Kevin recalled, Hannah's academic performance was exceptional, ranking at the top in their region.
Inheriting her parents' excellent genes, Hannah was not only svelte and tall but also had delicate facial features and smooth and fair skin, the very picture of youthful beauty.
At first glance, Hannah bore a striking resemblance to a youthful version of a major celebrity. However, her tacky faux Adidas tracksuit, coupled with her clearly unkempt hair that was tied back in a casual ponytail, which was reminiscent of her mother, Clara, left Kevin visibly uncomfortable.
Next to Sofia, who was elegant and lavishly adorned, Hannah appeared to be an unsophisticated little girl from the countryside.
Yet, this could not obscure Hannah's beauty. With her plain, unpretentious student look and naturally beautiful face, she was already over ninety points in Kevin's estimation.
Kevin had always been curious to see how Hannah would compare with Sofia and Natalie if she were given a makeover. However, changing one's demeanor was not something that could be easily accomplished overnight. Hannah had grown up in a rural area of Harborview Metropolis and lived modestly, so adopting the sophistication of someone like Sofia would be challenging in the short term.
Nevertheless, Kevin was quite fond of Hannah's simplicity and the innocent purity she carried with her.
"Clara, no need for such formalities with gifts; just come in and make yourself at home," Lillian said with an amiable smile as she came out to welcome her guests, observing Clara bring a plethora of presents.
"Lillian," Clara greeted Lillian with a shy smile, displaying an innate deference towards her sister-in-law.
At that moment, Clara’s husband, Thaddeus Foster, got out of his car and greeted Lillian cheerfully, "Hello, Lillia. Is my brother not at home today?"
Scarlett's uncle, named Thaddeus, was an honest electrician from a village in a county under the jurisdiction of Harborview Metropolis. Given their humble bearings compared to the affluent Foster family from Golden Coast, Thaddeus always behaved with great respect and modesty during his visits.
Thaddeus was a tall man, around 55.8 feet, slightly on the heavier side, with a round and prominent belly. Despite this, his face was kind, and he always wore a warm and welcoming smile.
Kevin had heard from Scarlett that her uncle Thaddeus used to be a handsome soldier in his youth, and their family was much better off than his uncle's. Despite the opposition and efforts to prevent it, Clara was determined to marry Thaddeus.
Despite all the family's objections at the time, Clara and Thaddeus still came together, and soon after, their daughter Hannah was born.
It is said that Clara and Thaddeus once had a passionate love story.
Though Thaddeus's family circumstances were modest, according to Scarlett, he treated Clara exceptionally well. They never argued, and Thaddeus always took care of Clara in every way, sparing her from any hardships and managing most of the household chores.
Scarlett, on the other hand, admires Clara's marriage more than her own parent's relationship, which she finds unsatisfactory.
Scarlett's personality strongly resembles that of her aunt—gentle, kind, honest, amiable, and uninterested in wealth or fame. She was never one to seek material possessions or compare herself to others.
In contrast, Sofia bore a resemblance to her mother-in-law Lillian, who was more focused on vanity and prestige.
