Chapter 133 Contempt
"It's a rare occasion; Kevin is making money now, and I want everyone to experience a more upscale place and broaden their horizons," Lillian said with a proud smile, glancing at Kevin from time to time, showing utmost satisfaction with Kevin's arrangements.
“Kevin, you're really generous this time, inviting so many people to the Pansea Hotel for dinner. This meal is going to cost tens of thousands of dollars, right? You're so rich now." Seeing that the elders had entered the house, Cody teased Kevin with a sardonic, semi-smirking voice, "Will that credit card of yours even cover it?"
"If things don't work out by then, you'll have to help me out," said Kevin, letting out a cold chuckle. He intentionally appeared somewhat tense as he spoke to Cody.
"Puffing up one's face to look imposing. Let's see how you'll end up by then," Cody chuckled smugly, a wave of triumphant sneer running through his mind, eagerly anticipating to see Kevin embarrass himself.
Besides Kevin, Lily no longer showed her previous enthusiasm and admiration, occasionally displaying a hint of disdain towards Kevin.

Seeing Lily's affinity plummet, Kevin surmised that Cody must have said something to her, making Lily think he was a braggart who bit off more than he could chew.
Thus, Lily's attitude had a big turn. No wonder Lily had not been initiating contact with him on Facebook.
He thought, ‘Nevertheless, this is okay. When Lily later witnesses my true capabilities, she will feel contempt and doubt toward Cody, and her admiration for me will surge.’
After chatting at home for a while, Kevin looked at the time. It was past 4 p.m., and it was about time to head to the hotel, so he stood up and proposed, "It's about time we left. Shall we head out?"
"Alright, let's go," Lillian replied excitedly, radiant and beaming with pride.
Kevin had arranged for her birthday to be celebrated at such an upscale hotel, making Lillian feel proud and esteemed in front of her relatives. Therefore, she looked forward to the evening's banquet.
"Lillian, you can ride in my car. We can't be in a little Toyota going to a fancy place like that," Cody said, standing up while adjusting his collar to flaunt his Longines watch.
Hearing Cody's offer, Lillian's face immediately turned somber, her smile freezing as a wave of discomfort washed over her.
About to speak up, Kevin patted Lillian's hand with a smile.
"Alright, let's also experience a ride in Cody's Mercedes," Kevin said subtly with a glance at Lillian, promptly agreeing with a nod.
Kevin wanted to indulge Victoria's family's pride in their car—the more they showed off, the more effective Kevin's upcoming actions would be.
Everyone climbed into their vehicles, with Clara's family embarrassingly driving an old Honda, all heading towards the Pansea Hotel.
"How about it? My Mercedes is great, right? Kevin, since you can afford a fancy hotel like Pansea Hotel, you can surely get yourself a Mercedes, too. What is a little Mercedes to you?" As Cody drove, he said proudly to Kevin, Scarlett, and Sofia in the back seat.
"Yeah, Kevin, let's get one, too. A Mercedes C won’t cost much," Sofia said enviously, looking at the luxurious interior of the Mercedes, somewhat tempted.
"We haven't bought a house yet, so let's take it easy with the car for now. I feel that Corolla looks pretty good." Scarlett shook her head, being the voice of thrift and domestic economy.
"Scarlett, if I remember correctly, you haven't got a car yourself, right? You are still riding a little electric scooter to work all the time, right? Isn't Kevin worried about your safety?" Cody showed off a bit of driving skill with an accelerated overtake and then continued smugly.
"Kevin, didn't you say that writing books earns you tens of thousands of dollars a month? Buying a Mercedes should be trivial for you. By the way, what's your pen name online, and what's your most famous work? With so much money, you must be very famous, right?" As Kevin remained silent, Lily immediately followed with a scornful tone.
Kevin wasn't troubled by his problem, but Lily's comment did stump him.
Though Kevin had money now, his only somewhat renowned book had been banned. He's facing difficulties in writing and securing new contracts, which was rather awkward. Confronted with Lily's questions, Kevin felt momentarily tongue-tied.
Seeing Kevin pursed his lips with a gloomy face, Cody and Lily became more firm in their thoughts, especially Lily. She despised those who brag without substance. While Cody enjoyed showing off a bit, his family's influence backed him up.
Kevin's pretentious behavior made him repulsive. Any admiration and appreciation for Kevin instantly turned into disdain and disgust, and favor toward Kevin plummeted sharply.

Watching Lily's favorable impression fall again, Kevin clenched his fist and cast a surreptitious glance at Sofia, vowing inwardly to win her over soon. Once he obtained the book that would guarantee his ascension, he would thoroughly pursue and teach a lesson to Lily, who looked down upon others and thought too highly of herself.
Especially with Lily, Kevin found himself increasingly captivated by her youthful charm and allure, which was heightened by Cody's irritating presence as her boyfriend. Kevin's desire for Lily became irresistibly strong, almost to the point where he yearned to passionately conquer her immediately.
