Brazen in his approach, Kevin directly messaged Lillian, even hinting at a veiled threat. His words implied that if she didn't comply, it would arouse Sofia's suspicions.
Having already crossed a line a moment earlier, Kevin found it hard to believe that his mother-in-law would reject him. Sometimes, he thought, a man needed to be assertive, even a bit domineering, to conquer a woman.

Finally, he reached the second floor in the darkness. His hand trembled as he reached for the door handle, carefully and slowly pressing it down. With bated breath and utmost gentleness, he pushed the door of the hallway open just enough for a person to slip through, then softly left it ajar.
This deliberate action took Kevin five to six minutes, and it left him sweating profusely and his heart racing.
Casting a quick glance at Sofia's bedroom door, which was shrouded in darkness, Kevin assumed that she was already asleep.
After eavesdropping on Sofia's door for a while and confirming there was no movement inside, Kevin stealthily made his way to his mother-in-law's bedroom door. Gently gripping the bedroom handle, with a slight exertion, a faint click resonated from the handle.
The door was open.
