Chapter 145 Overflowing With Jealousy

"Mom, it must be cool to drive this car, right? Look, so many people are looking at our car. If you drive this to work tomorrow, I guarantee all your colleagues will be green with envy. You'll definitely be the center of attention in the whole company." Sofia leaned forward from the back seat of the driver's side, her face full of envy as she watched her mother, Lillian, driving.

"Sofia, don't distract Mom when she's driving. She's a novice and hasn't driven much since she got her license. Safety first," Scarlett chided Sofia.

Though she didn't say much, Scarlett couldn't help feeling a twinge of jealousy.

Kevin hadn't even bought her a car but had bought one for her mother first, and it was such an expensive one, costing three hundred thousand dollars. This made Scarlett feel a bit sore.

Even though the recipient was her own mother, Scarlett still felt a pang of reluctance.

Meanwhile, Natalie, who had been quiet and indifferent all this while, gave Kevin a sidelong glance and said with a hint of sarcasm, "Kevin, my sister doesn't have a car now. Why don't you buy one for her?"

"Natalie, how can you speak like that? From now on, you won't get to talk to your brother-in-law in that manner, will you? What's wrong with him giving me a car? What did you, as my daughter, give me for my birthday?" Now protective of Kevin, Lillian couldn't stand anyone speaking ill of him. She treated him even better than her own biological son.

"Mom, Natalie is always like that. It's fine. What Natalie said is right; Scarlett needs a car. I find the BMW 5 Series quite suitable for Scarlett. I've been making some money recently; let's go buy one," Kevin replied with an embarrassed smile, feeling as though Natalie had seen right through his intentions.

Natalie was right, after all. His actions had a purpose. One that was neither honest nor decent. He wanted to have an affair with his mother-in-law.

"And what about me? Kevin, I like Porsche 911s. When will you buy one for me?" Sofia continued her playful teasing from behind.

"Sofia, stop your nonsense. How can you ask your brother-in-law for a car? If you want a Porsche, go find a capable husband for yourself. If you end up with a good son-in-law like me, that's fine too," Lillian said with a smile, teasing Sofia while smoothly maneuvering the steering wheel, her happiness and pride evident in her expression.

"Sofia, get this straight. He's my husband, not yours. I haven't even asked him to buy me one, yet you dare to ask for it? Have you ever seen a brother-in-law who buys a car for his sister-in-law? If anyone wants to get a car, it should be for me, not you. Go and ask your rich boyfriend to buy you one since he's so wealthy," Scarlett replied discontentedly to Sofia's suggestion.

Scarlett rebuked Sofia and moved to lean behind Kevin, pinching his ear over the car seat. "Kevin, tell me honestly. Where is all this money coming from?"

"I already told you I earned it from writing. You don't really think I borrowed it, do you? In a bit, I'll hand you my phone and bank card, and you can check for yourself," Kevin replied with a carefree smile, spreading his hands. "I just made some money recently, and now it's all going towards gifts for you and mom. I don't have much left now."

"But the money I have is all earned through my hard work, clean and clear, without borrowing a penny from anyone. If you think I'm being extravagant, that's not true. The car plus the watch, in total, is just four hundred thousand dollars. My aunt and uncle's family have much more money than me; their house alone is worth millions of dollars. It's just that I'm willing to spend money on my family."

"I feel that over the years, you all haven't had an easy time. I didn't make money before to let you and Mom live a good life, and even caused you embarrassment, making relatives and friends look down on us. So, I wanted to give you and Mom a chance to gain some dignity and allow you to be proud when you go out. Money really doesn't mean anything to me; I don't care for it. I just want you, Mom and our family to be happy."

"Scarlett, what do you mean? Are you also choosing to believe the rumors about Kevin like other people? Or do you feel it's a waste for Kevin to buy a car and a watch for me?" Lillian interrupted Scarlett angrily before Scarlett could ask further.

"You are all so ungrateful; I gave birth to you for nothing. Kevin is the only one who is truly nice to me."

"Mom, you've been won over by your son-in-law; now, even your own daughters can't measure up to your dear son-in-law. But seriously, I was just joking; why get so worked up about it?" Sofia, full of jealousy, glanced at Scarlett and said sourly.

Scarlett's earlier words had been a jab at Sofia, which made her quite displeased, even to the extent of harboring a grudging resentment toward her sister.
