As Kevin shook hands with Lily, he carefully observed the system introduction about her.
Lily, the girl, was indeed a fine young woman. It would be such a pity if she truly ended up with Cody.
Kevin made a silent resolve to find an opportunity to seduce her.
“Victoria, come in and take a seat. Dinner will be ready shortly,” Lillian called out as she emerged, eyes covetously fixed on the new Mercedes before summoning them inside with a somewhat strained smile.
Once everyone settled on the sofa, Marshall fixed his gaze on Kevin and asked, “Kevin, are you still writing those e-books I've heard about from your father-in-law? You haven’t gone to work yet, have you?”
“Yes, I'm still writing,” Kevin nodded in response.
“Kevin writes e-books? Does that mean he’s an author? What have you written? I quite enjoy reading e-books myself,” Lily asked eagerly upon learning that Kevin was an e-book writer.
"An author? More like barely a writer. I heard people online referring to people like Kevin as – what do they call it again? Yes! Trash!" Cody sneered openly at Kevin.
"Kevin! You can't just hide away at home living off others! If writing isn't working out, why not work at our factory? The wage for a packer isn’t much, but it’s better than writing." Victoria patronized Kevin from a self-perceived superior position.
"No, I quite like writing," Kevin replied with a dismissive, polite smile.
"Quite like it. You're quite content, but what about your in-laws and your wife? Do you know what others say about you? You've embarrassed your family." Marshall, always too direct, did not hide his disdain for Kevin.
"Some people, neither achieving high nor fitting in low, claim they're pursuing dreams when they’re actually just lazy, living off their parents," Cody remarked with a smug comment.
"Kevin, I see you have an LV belt there. Isn't that a new model? If you can't afford it, don't pretend. Wearing a fake only makes you a laughingstock." After mocking Kevin, Cody couldn't resist mocking Kevin's belt. His tone was filled with a clear sense of superiority and disdain.
Scarlett and Sofia were busy serving coffee. Anger crossed their face when they heard Cody’s words;
Scarlett, for her honesty, was used to being belittled by the wealthier branches of the family.
Sofia, though infuriated, knew Kevin's belt was genuine. She wanted to retort but held back, waiting for Kevin to reveal the truth and slap back with it.
Kevin's brow furrowed slightly. Originally, Kevin didn't care about this family's opinions and had planned to have his revenge once he'd bought a Maybach. But now, pushed to the limit, he was about to snap.
"Cody, why would you say I'm living off others? At least I earned myself for everything I use. You’re the one who hasn’t worked a day yet; it's you who’s living off your parents," Kevin said with a soft smile. He looked at Cody and continued in a calm tone, "I think it’s time for you to start working at the factory."
"So what if I live off my parents? We own a factory; I don’t need to work. What about you? What does your family have? Even if they had money, they wouldn’t let you be a kept man," Cody retorted, humiliation seeping through his voice as he spoke with increasing agitation.
