Chapter 144 A Complete Change of Attitude

"Kevin, you've really made something of yourself now. We misunderstood you earlier. It's surprising when someone suddenly becomes so wealthy, isn't it? My sister is lucky to have such a nice and good son-in-law. Going forward, Cody will need your help, too; we're all family, after all. Don't forget us when you're prospering," Victoria chipped in, her voice laced with fawning as she spoke to Kevin.

At this time, Marshall had already shed his earlier arrogance and seniority, treating Kevin very politely and even with a hint of flattery.

"Kevin, I knew you were destined for great things. As an elder, I was just pushing you for your own good! You have to understand that I may be stubborn, but deep down, I truly supported your ebook writing," he stated.

"Kevin, now that you're so rich, maybe you could get me a Mercedes E300L sometime, right? I mean, I'm your cousin. If you and Scarlett won't help me, who will?" Cody, eyes shining with envy, licked his lips and weighed in with a flattering smile as he looked at the Mercedes.

They were all envious of Kevin before, desperately trying to trample him down.

Now, realizing they couldn't reach his level, they began to grovel, hoping to gain some advantage from him.

Kevin saw right through their intentions, feeling contempt and disdain.

"You flatter me, Uncle Marshall. You're the one who's truly profiting from running a business. Cody is so clever, and after taking over the business, maybe in a few years, it will expand and even go public. People like me are just workers earning a wage by working hard. It's getting late; let's head home."

Kevin brushed off his uncle's family with a nonchalant smile and turned lovingly to Lillian. "Mom, let's take your new car home today, and we won't trouble Cody and my uncle to send us back."

"Of course, you should enjoy the new car. So, we'll be heading back first," said Victoria, her laugh tinged with jealousy and awkwardness as she bade farewell to Lillian.

"Aren't you coming to our place for a visit? It's a rare opportunity today," Lillian replied with a polite smile, still gripping the steering wheel, her face radiating happiness and triumph. "Wasn't Marshall just saying that he wanted to buy a Mercedes E300, too? Take this chance to test-drive it, and if you like it, maybe Marshall can buy one for Victoria, too."

"No, we have some things to deal with at the factory today. We won't come over for a visit. We'll be leaving first," Victoria said through clenched teeth, envious of Lillian's triumph.

Today, they really faced a humiliating situation.
They didn't wait for Lillian's approval; Victoria, Marshall, and Cody left the banquet hall humiliated.

"Lillian, we'll be heading back too." Clara approached Lillian timidly, ready to leave as well.

Clara's family had always been intimidated by Lillian, their sister-in-law, and now, with Kevin showering her with such adoration, their sense of inadequacy in her presence grew immensely, leaving them scarcely daring to speak.

"Aunt, uncle, Hannah, since you've come all the way here, why rush off? Stay at our home a bit longer before leaving." Scarlett smiled, unwillingly holding back Clara, and tried to convince her to stay.

"Scarlett, your aunt and uncle have traveled far, and it's dangerous to travel late at night. Let them go back first. We'll pay a visit to your aunt's home another day," Lillian replied, pushing in a less hospitable manner and waving Clara and Thaddeus away. Go back and be careful on the road; it's getting late."

"Okay, Lillian, we'll head out then."

"Lillian, we're leaving."

"Goodbye, Aunt Lillian."

The three of them bid farewell to Lillian and the others with polite respect.

Kevin stepped forward to take Hannah's hand, particularly instructing her, "Hannah, although I didn't have the chance to talk to you properly today, I'm aware of your situation. If you face any difficulties, call me, and I will assist you."

Kevin patted Hannah's head with a smile and handed her a note with his phone number on it. From their earlier conversation, he could tell Hannah had something troubling her.

Although Hannah was not genetically related to him, Kevin always felt an instinctive brotherly affection towards her—a bond even stronger than with Natalie.

And Hannah, too, had always been fond of Kevin.

"Thank you, Kevin. I'm leaving." Hannah clutched the piece of paper Kevin had given her tightly, glancing regretfully at Kevin, Scarlett, and Sofia before hurrying after her parents out of the hall.

The guests were gone, and the family happily climbed into the newly purchased Mercedes E300L. Kevin sat in the passenger seat. Scarlett, Sofia, and Natalie sat in the back seats. Lillian, with little driving experience, cautiously steered the new vehicle, slowly leaving the hotel behind.
