Chapter 138 I Advise You to Stop It

Marshall's words left everyone a bit embarrassed.

Their moods, already heavy, became even more oppressive. Everyone stealthily glanced at Kevin; some were snickering, some were shaking their heads, and some were looking uncomfortable. Even Lillian, who was joyfully teary, turned uneasy.

"Alright, thank you for your guidance, Uncle Marshall. I was wrong; you are right," Kevin responded calmly and politely toasted Marshall. But inside, he was cursing silently.

Marshall was just envious of Kevin, resenting him for outshining the Gomez family and making the Foster family seem superior. Those from the Gomez family disliked seeing others thrive and secretly wished for their downfall.

Kevin had long seen through the members of the Gomez family, especially Marshall, who was just acting. He thought, ‘Damn it! Did I spend a penny of your money on buying a watch? I didn’t steal it or rob someone for it, did I? Whether I buy it or not is none of your damn business at all. Who the hell are you to lecture me? What authority do you have over me? Do I really need your guidance? Don’t be acting! Do you really think I regard you as family? Do you genuinely view yourself as an elder? Back when I had a hard time, why didn't you offer me some guidance?’

Marshall was disgustingly hypocritical. While Kevin cursed inwardly, he outwardly maintained a sincere demeanor.

On the one hand, Kevin didn't want to ruin the joyous occasion by getting angry with such a person, as it would potentially spoil the positive atmosphere.
On the other hand, Kevin couldn't be bothered to argue with Marshall. He just let Marshall continue to act pretentiously. Kevin would live his own life. If he succeeded, it had nothing to do with Marshall; if he failed, such relatives wouldn't come to his aid.

Why should he care about Marshall’s opinions?

Was it even worth it?

"Kevin, as your aunt, I also have something to say. You are an adult. How can you still be so naive? If you had the money, why didn't you buy Scarlett a car? Why not buy a house? I know you're trying to show off now that you've made a bit of money, but how much have you really earned? There's no need to flaunt your wealth to us; we all know what you have," Victoria said enviously, eyeing Lillian's Rolex and reddening with jealousy, though on the surface, she was belittling the watch. "Purchasing a watch for over fifty thousand dollars to make yourself look good. Clearly, you think you're nice to your mother-in-law by showing such a precious gift. But in my opinion, this kind of expenditure is just for show. It's better to buy a fake one than waste money like this. If Cody got me one, I'd slap him straight away."

Marshall and Victoria's criticism grew increasingly bitter and excessive.

At this point, Scarlett, Sofia, and Natalie couldn't bear to watch any longer.
"Auntie Victoria, what's wrong with my brother-in-law buying a watch for my mom? He earned the money and thought of buying a gift for my mom first. That's a good thing; why criticize him? Besides, my brother-in-law earned money through hard work, so what's the problem with buying a luxury item? Even if he threw the money into the river, that would be his business," Sofia replied sharply and defensively.

"Auntie Victoria, you seem to drool over my mom's watch. If someone gave you one, I bet you'd faint from excitement." Natalie uncharacteristically sided with Kevin, defending him.

"Natalie, what are you talking about? Would I like such a thing? I can afford it; I just don't care for it." Victoria, feeling provoked, immediately responded like a cat with its tail stepped on, glaring angrily at Natalie.

"Alright, stop! Let's not talk about this anymore. It's my birthday. We're here to have fun. I like the watch, whether it's real or fake. As long as it's from my son-in-law, it's my treasure. It's his money to spend, and it's not our place to say otherwise," Lillian interjected, frowning at her sister Victoria.

Hearing her sister's tone of anger, Victoria fell silent, fuming and casting a glare at Natalie before taking a sip of her wine.

"Lillian, I didn't want to mention this, but now, to prevent my brother-in-law from going astray, I feel I must say it out loud for all to hear. I want him to understand his wrongness," Cody spoke out untimely, standing up with a grave expression.

Upon hearing Cody's opening remarks, the onlookers immediately furrowed their brows and turned their gaze towards Cody, curiosity evident in their eyes.
Lillian and Scarlett, sensing something amiss right away, shared a sense of foreboding.
Kevin, with a sardonic smile, gazed at Cody, shaking his head ever so slightly, already aware of what Cody was about to say next.
