Chapter 136 Real or Fake

"Lillian, why are you crying on such a joyous day? Look at you. You are moved to tears," Sofia said teasingly as she approached Lillian, surprised by the gifts in her hands. "Is this a gift from Kevin? Let me see what good things he has given you."

Sofia playfully snatched the beautifully wrapped gift box from Lillian's hands and opened it under everyone's curious gaze.

"A Rolex!" Cody, who was wearing an Omega DeVille, immediately recognized the Rolex logo.

"It's not a Rolex watch, is it?" Victoria also drew in closer, quite excitedly.

As Sofia fiddled with the Rolex package, pausing with the half-opened box in hand, the room grew silent with anticipation.

The cheapest Rolex was probably over fifty thousand dollars. Could Kevin have actually bought a Rolex watch for Mom?

Lillian was also stunned, looking incredulously towards Kevin, her eyes filled with disbelief.

Only Clara's family was still clueless about what exactly a Rolex represented.

"Hurry up and open it!" Cody urged curiously.

Taking a deep breath, Sofia pulled out an opulent watch box from the bag. With a sound, the box opened to reveal a brand-new Rolex watch inside, its face and circle of diamonds sparkling brilliantly under the lights.

"It's really a Rolex watch!" Victoria exclaimed in surprise.

Everyone drew in a sharp breath in disbelief.

Spending over fifty thousand dollars on a car was one thing; spending the same amount on a watch was quite another, especially as watches were considered jewelry, a luxury.

Buying a car for over a hundred thousand was a necessity, something ordinary people did. But spending that much on a watch was definitely a sign of wealth.

The poor play with cars, and the rich play with watches.

Even the Gomez family, with a small enterprise and millions of dollars in assets, would hesitate to buy such an expensive watch.

Marshall and Victoria only wore a Longines and a Tissot, respectively, but Kevin directly presented Lillian with a Rolex worth over fifty thousand dollars, a gift that was shockingly extravagant.

Astonished, Lillian took Sofia’s watch and found it hard to accept. She handed it to Kevin and said, "Kevin, I can't accept such an expensive gift. I know you work hard to make money. I am already happy today. You should return this watch."

"Kevin, where did you get so much money? This Rolex must be at least over fifty thousand dollars, right? Listen to Mom and return the watch," Scarlett also softly urged Kevin, feeling it was unnecessary to spend so much on a watch.

"Alright, do you really think this is a genuine Rolex? Didn't you see the watch that Kevin himself wears? Do you really believe it's genuine? The Breguet 6654 he wears is worth over 30,000 dollars for the original, but the fake is just four or five thousand dollars. He wears a fake, so of course, the one he gifts to Auntie is also fake. I’m afraid that it only cost him a few thousand dollars at most," Cody chimed in with disdain, immediately judging the gift as counterfeit.

"It's fake? Kevin, why do you give your mother-in-law a fake watch? I was actually about to praise you, but now it just shows you are obsessed with vanity," Victoria added, feeling somewhat relieved to hear it was a replica.

"So it is a sham?" Scarlett breathed out a long sigh of relief.

Lillian promptly removed the wristwatch, placed it on her wrist, gestured, seemingly to console Kevin, and immediately smiled as she spoke, "What's wrong with something being fake? Fakes are economical. Mom likes fake things, and I adore this watch too much! Kevin, I accept your gift! Thank you!"
"Kevin, it's one thing to boast to us, but now you're giving Aunt a fake watch; that's just not right." Cody took the opportunity to taunt Kevin immediately.

Today, with Kevin taking so much limelight in front of everyone, Cody grew more and more displeased and jealous. Now, Cody just wanted to see Kevin make a fool of himself so that he could vent his frustration.

"I knew Kevin couldn't possibly have so much money to buy a Rolex worth tens of thousands. I can't even bring myself to buy one," Marshall chimed in with a sarcastic laugh.

"Whether it's real or fake doesn't matter. It's the thought that counts. Can't this imitation watch tell time? I think it looks pretty good and quite nice. Why spend tens of thousands when you can get the exact same thing for cheap?" Clara couldn't bear to watch and spoke up for Kevin.
