Chapter 80 Scarlett's Best Friend
"Honey, have you prepared for the birthday party tomorrow? Where should we go for dinner? Mom is really looking forward to it. Did you boast to her just now?" Scarlett walked into the study, smiling as she asked Kevin.
"We'll go to the International Garden Hotel to eat. The environment there is great, and you can see a beautiful lake view. I also invited Victoria and her family. Who else do you think we should invite?" Kevin smiled, standing up and embracing his increasingly charming and beautiful wife, speaking gently.
"Are you crazy? The International Garden Hotel! Even a casual meal there cost tens of thousands of dollars. With that money, couldn't we save up to buy a house?" Scarlett immediately jumped up, reluctant to agree with Kevin.
Scarlett's words made Kevin feel even more guilty. Scarlett was truly a good woman, a rare, virtuous wife. But he was actually flirting with her two sisters and her mother behind her back.
Today, he even sneaked out to have an affair. This made Kevin realize that he was really a scumbag.
Kevin decided that he must make it up to Scarlett, and in the future, no matter what, he must treat his wife better.
"It's okay, my dear. These opportunities are rare. I'm making money now, and buying a house isn't the only pursuit, right? We have a place to live now. I'm willing to spend as much as needed to make Mom happy and you happy," Kevin gently kissed Scarlett's cheek and said with a chuckle. "Trust me, give me a little more time, and I'll try my best to buy us a villa this year!"
"You're making me blush. Come on. I'll go with your plan! When did you become so concerned about my mom and eloquent?" Blushing, Scarlett leaned into Kevin's embrace and shyly continued, "Honey, I feel like you've changed recently. You didn't use to be this sweet-talking. Mom, too, seems to have changed. She appears to really like you now, treating you even better than she treats her daughters. You have no idea that when you didn't come home, Mom wouldn't let us eat. She insisted on waiting for her beloved son-in-law to arrive before having dinner. I'm starting to feel jealous!"
"It is a good thing, isn’t it, my dear?" Kevin smiled and kissed Scarlett's luscious red lips, causing Scarlett to close her eyes in ecstasy and respond actively to Kevin's kiss.
They soon embraced each other affectionately.
"It's good, but I feel like it's a bit unreal. Everything is changing too fast. You suddenly became outstanding, which makes me feel like I'm not good enough for you. I'm afraid of losing you." After the passionate kiss, Scarlett lowered her head somewhat self-consciously.
"No, you are my wife. Don’t talk nonsense. When I was down and out before, you never left me, right? Remember how you protected me when your parents wanted you to divorce me and kick me out? Remember, no matter how I change, you are my wife, my only wife." Kevin looked deeply into his wife Scarlett's eyes, suddenly feeling a sense of satisfaction for having a wife as good as Scarlett.
Scarlett was honest, thrifty, and not materialistic. She was easily satisfied.
Although living with Scarlett might be a bit dull, such a woman was truly the one who was most suitable to be a wife. Kevin believed that Scarlett would also be a good mother in the future.
"Look at you! Now you're sweet-talking like you've smeared honey all over yourself. No wonder Mom and Sofia are both favoring you, treating you like a treasure!" Scarlett laughed and kissed Kevin, suddenly remembering something. "Oh, by the way, tonight my best friend and her husband invited us for supper. Should we go? I haven't seen my best friend in a long time."
Hearing about Scarlett's best friend, Kevin couldn't help but pause. "Is it that nurse, Hazel?" Scarlett didn't have many friends; it seemed like Hazel was the only one. However, Kevin didn't have a good impression of her.
Hazel's husband was a doctor with a high and stable income, respected by society and, usually very arrogant. Kevin had dinner with Scarlett and them before, and he was quite unhappy, especially with Hazel's husband Aaron, who always acted superior and seemed to have ulterior motives towards Scarlett, deliberately flattering Scarlett while belittling Kevin. Moreover, he showed disdain and sarcasm towards Kevin's job as a writer. This made Kevin very repulsed by this couple.
In the past, Kevin would have probably just made excuses.
But now, Kevin wasn't afraid of much as it was inevitable for him to see them occasionally. With his current income level, he could probably outshine that doctor, Aaron, soon.
Before, he couldn't hold his head up in front of this couple, but now, he wasn't afraid of them. It was time to show some confidence. Besides, if Scarlett went alone, Kevin wouldn't feel at ease.
That Aaron didn't seem like a good person. As a man, Kevin always felt that Aaron had ill intentions toward Scarlett. Just like himself, he also had some thoughts about Hazel.
In any case, as men, Kevin felt that men weren't really good people, always eyeing what was on the other side of the fence.
Now, with this system, Kevin had even more thoughts about Hazel.
