Chapter 183 Winning Over Natalie
"Natalie! That's fantastic! You've done marvelously with a score of 1486, which meets the Harvard and Cambridge entry requirements." Kevin couldn't help but applaud and laugh excitedly. "Absolutely incredible! I only scored a little over 1,000 on the SAT, and you've beaten me by several hundred points. Is this a scholarly ace?"
To someone with modest academic accomplishments like Kevin, such an exceptional score was almost beyond belief.
Having taken the SAT himself, Kevin was very aware of the significance of her achievement and felt a deep envy. Yet, noticing Natalie's face filled with disappointment and resignation, he found himself confounded.
Was this the disparity between a scholarly ace and an underachiever? He didn’t expect Natalie to be disheartened by a score of 1486. If only he could achieve such a score, it would keep him awake and jubilant for days.
"The gap to my goal is that wide; this score would only suffice for Stanford," Natalie remarked dejectedly, shaking her head.
"Stanford University is great, too! Most importantly, it's close to home. Stanford University isn't actually much inferior to Harvard or Cambridge. If you want to go to Stanford University, I will definitely support you." Kevin smiled, patting Natalie's head. In his great mood, Kevin no longer had the desire to continue with any inappropriate behavior towards Natalie. "Natalie, come, let's go out. Tell me what you want to buy, and I will reward you nicely today. You can buy anything you want."
Kevin reached out and held Natalie's hand, smiling affectionately.
Seeing Kevin genuinely happy for her from the bottom of his heart lessened Natalie let go of her fear. Her face was slightly blushing, and she did not pull away from Kevin's hand; instead, she bowed her head shyly.
Kevin guided Natalie into the car, looking at her with a smile. "Natalie, you did so well this time. What gift do you want? I can buy it for you right now."
"No need, Kevin." Faced with Kevin's warmth, Natalie was momentarily taken aback. Having just been intimidated by him, Natalie now held a slight awe towards Kevin.
Previously, with her mother Lillian's protection, Natalie acted carefree and didn't take her weak brother-in-law Kevin seriously. But now that Lillian supported Kevin, she felt a bit afraid of him.
Kevin started the car, smiling as he glanced at Natalie. Kevin knew very well what Natalie liked. Combining her interests and hobbies, Kevin already had a plan in mind.
"Well, let me just get you a random gift then. If you don't mention it to me, and you end up not liking it, don't blame me."
Driving directly to a phone store, Kevin checked the time—it was already 8:30. The school graduation ceremony was about to begin, and time was tight. Kevin got out of the car and went straight into the store, asking the staff, "Do you have the Apple 14 Pro Max in stock?"
The store clerk was taken aback as Kevin joyfully entered the shop. Hearing Kevin's request for the Apple 14, especially the top version, the clerk warmly greeted, "We have it! How much storage space are you looking for? What color do you prefer?"
Giving a casual glance around, Kevin pointed to a white Apple 14 and said, "I'll take the white one. The more storage space, the better. How much is it?"
The clerk hesitated for a moment at Kevin's straightforwardness, curiously assessing Kevin's appearance before responding, "The max storage is 256GB, and we currently have a promotion for this model."
"Enough with the chatter; I don't need any promotions. Quickly, how much is it? Get me one; I'm in a hurry," Kevin impatiently urged, checking his watch.
"This one is priced at $1,800. If you need a discount, I can provide one," the clerk, caught off guard by Kevin, quickly offered.
"Fine, pack it up for me," Kevin said, directly taking out his phone and transferring $1,800 without delay.
"Good news! You received $1,800." As the announcement resounded in the store, the clerk was once again taken aback. Despite running a phone shop for four to five years, this was the first time he had encountered such a swift purchase of an Apple phone, especially the top-tier model.
It was over $1,800, yet Kevin transferred the money without question.
Even the negotiation tactics he had prepared were rendered useless. "Alright! I'll pack it up for you right away."
Hurriedly leaving with the packaged Apple phone, Kevin dashed out of the store, opened the car door, and handed the phone to Natalie in the driver's seat. "I know you enjoy playing games. The old phone your sister doesn't use for gaming is slow. I got you a new one. I hope you like it."
