Chapter 22 Rising Affections

After shopping with Sofia for a while, Kevin eventually could not refuse any longer and let Sofia buy him two sets of casual clothes and a new pair of Adidas sneakers. Then, they returned home, a bit weary.
After becoming more familiar with Sofia, Kevin realized she was not as distant as he had imagined. On the contrary, once she accepted him, she was quite casual and even a bit clingy.
Even in the mall, Sofia would intimately cling to Kevin's arm. Sometimes, Kevin would take her hand, and Sofia would simply smile sweetly with a blush, without any hint of resistance or discomfort.
Moreover, under Kevin’s affectionate and financial onslaught, Sofia began speaking more frankly and without reserve.
Their relationship heated up quickly, and by the time they left the mall, they were close as siblings.
Despite her cold and prideful appearance, Sofia was somewhat lonely on the inside. Under Kevin's genuine care and close attention, she increasingly relied on Kevin, acting more and more like a little bird leaning on a person.
"Kevin, it would be great if you weren't my sister's husband." Once they got home and were jokingly ascending the stairs together, Sofia suddenly spoke up with a touch of melancholy.
Kevin, startled, immediately sensed an unusual emotion in her tone and replied jokingly with a smile, "If I weren't your brother-in-law, who would I be to you? If I weren't your brother-in-law, we might not even know each other, silly girl."
"It'd be even better if you were my real brother!" Sofia stuck out her tongue at Kevin and laughed a bit forcedly.
"Just the same. You're my sister from now on, and you can just think of me as your real brother," Kevin said with a smile, looking at Sofia's lovely face, feeling an increasing fondness.
"I'm so tired from walking around; I'm covered in sweat. I'm going to take a shower," Sofia said with a sweet smile before turning to enter her bedroom.
Kevin checked the time; it was already past three in the afternoon. In a little over an hour, the parents-in-law and his wife would likely be back, and there wasn’t enough time to spark any flames of love with Sofia. He returned to his bedroom, turned on the computer, and casually checked in on a writers' group chat.
Kevin watched as some contracted authors in the group boasted about their accomplishments, feeling a twinge of envy.
Amazon's e-book recommendations were arranged through a promotion system.
Generally, around 50 to 100 thousand words in, an author would get his first recommendation.
Kevin had been writing for two years and had yet to make it onto this recommendation.
For Kevin, this recommendation was a dream.
However, soon, with the reward book from the system, such issues would no longer be a concern.
