Chapter 90 Sowing Discord

"Is the value of an item only about money? Is it more valuable only when it has a high price? In my eyes, money is merely a tool, a means to make my wife and family happy and content. My money should all belong to my wife. Whatever my wife likes, I am willing to give everything to buy it for her. Although I am not wealthy, I would spend all my money on a watch costing over 10,000 dollars for Scarlett. Aaron, you are so rich, yet I haven't seen you buy Hazel a watch. I remember last time Hazel took a fancy to a Longines watch; you accused her of wasting money. To be blunt, that's just selfishness; you simply begrudge spending money on Hazel."
Kevin spoke calmly and logically.
"What absurd nonsense are you spouting! If I begrudge spending money on Hazel, how come I bought her a car?" Aaron immediately countered emotionally.
It was no wonder Aaron exploded in anger. If it were the former Kevin, known for his candid nature, he would explode when he heard such shameless remarks, just like Aaron did.
Such remarks were simply shameless groveling of a limping man. It's a disgrace to manhood. However, for women, such words were nothing short of the sweetest flattery and vows.
Hazel found Kevin's remarks to be music to her ears, as she just disliked Aaron’s mansplaining. She couldn't help but admire him. Meanwhile, Scarlett was moved by the situation. She blushed with happiness, and her eyes sparkled with approval as she looked at Kevin again."

"Is that so?"
With a slight smile, Kevin then asked curiously, "If I may be so bold to ask, is this car under Hazel's ownership or yours? As I've gifted my watch to Scarlett, it is now hers. I presume it's simply for your own pleasure, isn't it?"
"What does it matter whose name it's under? We are a couple. What difference does it make if it's under my name or hers?" Aaron, sensing Hazel's increasingly grim expression, defended vehemently. Aaron didn't even grasp the point of Kevin's question.
"Of course not. Otherwise, why do people insist on having both spouses' names on property certificates when they marry? Putting it under the wife's name is a sign of trust, a promise to the wife. If I'm not mistaken, the house you bought before marriage is under your parents' names, right? If you really think it doesn’t matter whose name it’s under because you and Hazel are a couple, then why did you initially choose to put it under your parents'?"
Kevin had heard from Scarlett about the name on the property certificate. When this couple got married, they almost didn't make it because of this issue. If it hadn't been for the couple's family adding an extra $500,00 to the bride price, Hazel would have called off the marriage.
"Nonsense! The down payment for the pre-marriage house was paid by my parents, and the mortgage is being paid solely by me. What's wrong with it being under my parents' name? I didn't ask Hazel for a penny for the purchase. Why must it be under Hazel’s name?" Completely fed up, Aaron stood up abruptly, pointing his finger at Kevin.
"Kevin, stop talking! Why would you say such things?"
Scarlett was also startled and hastened to shake her head, pulling on Kevin’s arm. Seeing Aaron getting furious and losing his composure, Kevin could not conceal a successful smirk.
Suddenly, Hazel, with her bulging belly, stood up forcefully, slammed the table, and angrily pointed at Aaron, scolding him, "Aaron! What are you doing? Did Kevin say something wrong? Whenever the topic of property arises, it infuriates me! People buy houses for their sons and daughters-in-law, but your parents only put their names on them! Don't think I'm oblivious. You're all just guarding against me, aren't you? Your parents are already planning for the event of our divorce, thinking I won't get anything, aren't they? No wonder you insisted on putting the car under your name when you bought it! So, this is your scheme! I should have seen through your selfish intentions long ago. I even gave birth to a son for you. You are despicable. I gave birth to your child, and yet you deceive me like this. No! You must give me half of our family's property. Otherwise, I will abort the child."
"I have never thought that way. Hazel! What nonsense are you spouting? Have you gone mad? Aren't my children also your children? How can you say you bore a child for me? That house belongs to my parents. They provided the down payment. Can't you see the reason? Whatever belongs to my parents will eventually be for our children, too, won't it?"
Aaron, provoked by Hazel’s accusation, began to feel a rising anger.
