Chapter 86 Sofia's Change
"The day before yesterday, you said you'd take me out for a late-night snack, and I've waited for so long, but you haven't treated me yet. Kevin, did you forget about it?" Sofia peeked upstairs to ensure Scarlett hadn't come down and then said teasingly and a little jealously to Kevin.
Sofia's expression wasn't usually much to take note of, but combined with her dewy, just-out-of-the-shower appearance, it was particularly charming and seductive.
The robe's neckline slid open, revealing a large part of skin under it as she vigorously rubbed her damp hair. Kevin saw her shaking fair nipple and even caught sight of a bit of the tender areola.
"Anytime is fine! I'm actually worried you might not be free. I'll treat you to a late-night snack tomorrow. Okay?" Kevin shifted his gaze awkwardly while answering and then hastily retreated downstairs.
Watching Kevin flee, Sofia showed a triumphant smile, but it quickly faded to a tinge of loss.
As Scarlett walked downstairs while speaking on the phone, Sofia instinctively avoided her, hiding in the living room and secretly watching as her sister descended with a sweet smile on her face.
For some inexplicable reason, ever since the last time she had kissed her brother-in-law, Kevin, Sofia had found herself stricken with fear when facing her sister, Scarlett. She couldn't help but instinctively dodge Scarlett and, to make matters worse, even fostered a twinge of jealousy towards her sister.
The soft murmurs of her brother-in-law and sister's playful banter from downstairs made Sofia's heart heavier.
From a young age, the two sisters had a penchant for comparison. Whatever possessions or accolades her older sister garnered, Sofia felt compelled to attain the same. If praise was directed towards her sister, Sofia couldn't help but harbor a sense of resentment. Sofia always yearned to surpass Scarlett in every conceivable way.
Indeed, over the years, this pattern never changed.
Most people complimented Sofia on her beauty and intelligence, believing her to be more accomplished than Scarlett. At first, when Scarlett married a live-in son-in-law, Sofia privately scorned and was smug about it.
However, after she witnessed Kevin's goodness and observed her sister's blissful happiness, Sofia's mindset underwent a significant transformation.
The intense envy and comparison mindset that gripped her so fiercely in her childhood had only grown stronger with time. Her desire to possess everything her sister had also intensified.
Her disdain towards Kevin had transformed into an irresistible longing for closeness. Similarly, the pride she harbored for her sister had evolved into a mix of envy and admiration.
"Sofia, what are you thinking? He's your brother-in-law! Even if he's kind to you, and you like him, you mustn't do something so shameless! Aren't you afraid of hurting Scarlett? You've always been competitive with her since childhood, but this time, you really can't compete!"
Mumbling to herself, Sofia stared back as Kevin and Scarlett drove away, then turned with a touch of sadness to go into her bedroom.
Meanwhile, Kevin had already whisked Scarlett away in the car, heading towards the night market where Scarlett and her best friend Hazel had agreed to meet.
Scarlett's family was originally in the suburban area of Harborview Metropolis, but with the rapid development of the city in recent years and continuous expansion of urban amenities, Scarlett's home had become almost centrally located in the Harborview Metropolis.
Compared to Kevin’s parents, who were still worried about buying an apartment in Harborview Metropolis for Kevin’s brother, the Foster family could essentially be called accidental winners.
The night market, a recent development zone near Scarlett's home, was the exact rendezvous point arranged between Scarlett and Hazel.
In the bustling city of Harborview Metropolis, the night markets were usually most vibrant at this time of the evening.
Fortunately, being a newly established night market, it wasn't yet too crowded; otherwise, finding a parking spot in the n big Harborview Metropolis would have been quite a hassle. Kevin quickly spotted the barbecue restaurant Scarlett mentioned and carefully backed the car into a spot.
Just as Kevin and Scarlett prepared to get out of the car, a brand-new white BMW quickly swooped into the spot next to them.
The loud honk nearly startled Scarlett.
Just as Kevin was about to reproach the inattentive driver, the BMW's window rolled down, revealing the beautifully made-up face of a city beauty.
"Scarlett! What a coincidence! We've arrived at the same time. It seems like we still share a bond," Hazel called out gleefully to Scarlett from the BMW, not forgetting to stroke the sky blue and white BMW emblem on the steering wheel with her hand. Hazel appeared to have dressed up especially for the occasion today, with neat eyebrows, long eyelashes, bold lipstick, and her hair curled into big waves. Today, she was a stark contrast to her usual self when adorned in her nurse's attire.
She looked charming and stylish.
