"Sofia, hurry. Ask your mother, your sister, and Kevin to come out and see our new car. What do you think? I paid in full 70,000 dollars for a Mercedes! Isn't it beautiful, this exterior and interior?" Marshall boasted proudly about the new car he bought for Cody. Marshall was straightforward and loud; the volume of his voice was such that even Kevin inside the house found it ear-splitting.
They came over today to show off this car.
"Look who's here, Kevin!" Cody noticed Kevin inside the house and immediately greeted him with smugness, "Kevin, I know you love cars. Come on. Check out my new ride and see what a real Mercedes feels like."
"Just a Mercedes C200L. What's there to show off?" Scarlett muttered disdainfully beside Kevin.
But Kevin seemed unfazed as he stepped out with a smile, saying, "Impressive, Cody! A Mercedes. You're moving up to the big leagues now!"
"How about that? It's way better than your Toyota, right? Japanese cars, apart from their good fuel efficiency, are complete trash," Cody said arrogantly, basking in the glory.
If it had been Kevin from the past, he wouldn't have been able to bear such intentional mockery and would have returned to his bedroom.
But now, Kevin felt no discomfort whatsoever.
He thought, ‘Act all you want! Go on and show off! A Mercedes, is it? Okay, once I handle things with Sofia and get the money, I'll pick up a Maybach and show them real swank! Just let them enjoy their day. I will let them feel the sting of humiliation soon!’
"Cody, as nice as your Mercedes is, you've done one thing wrong. No matter how good the car is, it's not more important than your girlfriend, right? It's her first time visiting today; you should give us a proper introduction to her first instead of showing off the car, shouldn't you?" Kevin teased Cody with a sly smile.
Kevin's words were cunning and seemed to be creating a rift between the boyfriend and girlfriend.
Upon hearing this, Cody's girlfriend's face immediately turned sour.
Cody laughed awkwardly and reached out, saying, "Kevin, this is my girlfriend, Lily; she just graduated from university with a Bachelor's degree!"
Cody was poor in academics right from his school days, always ready to fight and cause trouble. Therefore, he finished his schooling after middle school and had been idling in society since then, without a job.
Therefore, Cody took immense pride in having a girlfriend who was academically successful and cultured. He pronounced the words "Bachelor's degree" with particular emphasis.
"Lily, hello! I'm Kevin. Welcome." Kevin extended a greeting to Lily with polite warmth.
Lily, seemingly taken by Kevin's courteousness, shyly reached out and shook his hand. "Hello, Kevin."
