Chapter 27
“We should tell Lilly the truth?” I say looking and my friends, my family who mostly had there head down. They felt as guilty as we did. It was easy to tell.
“Why the hell you want to go do that Kingsley?” Elijah sneered and we all whipped our heads in surprise at his tone of voice.
It wasn’t like Elijah. He was the quiet and reserved one. The one who blended into the shadows.
“It’s time man. She should know what we did. What we know.” Carter was the one who responded.
“Yeah, clever idea cry baby. She’s hell born. Pure evil….” Elijah began.
“You better shut up, right now.” Anger was welling inside of me. Clenching my fists, I tried to keep my cool. Swallow down the heat rising in my chest. I didn’t want to go there, all complete dark rage that takes complete control over me.
“What’s a matter? You fell for the bitch?” and that was it, I lose my shit. Before I knew or could stop myself my fist collided with Elijah’s jaw, and he stumbled back.
“Like father like son.” Elijah said rubbing his jaw and walking out the door.
“What the hell is his problem?” Bryce asked unfazed by the whole scene.
“That is not like him” Taylor added looking at the door that he had just exited.
“We have to tell her.” I brought the subject back.
“What about Elijah?” Taylor asked.
“He’s made his choice.” I said with a little guilt to my voice. I’d have to find out what his problem was and what had got him so worked up. But in the meantime, we’d have to tell Lilly everything.
Slowly we climbed the stairs and knocked on her door. She answered wearing a tank top and shorts. Her hair still damp from the shower. I had to bite my lower lip to stop myself from reaching out to her. To touch the curve of her hip that was partly exposed.
“What’s up.” She asked with her eyebrows slightly raised.
“We need to have a chat.” Carter winked walking past her and settling on her bed with ease. I wanted to drag the womanizer off and pummel hid face in. Stepping back, I took a deep breath before following the rest of the guys inside. What the hell was wrong with me? Why the hell was I feeling this way? Was it jealously? No, it couldn’t be?
“Lilly, we haven’t told you everything.” Taylor said softly.
“What about?” she looked worried. Yet it should be us that are worried.
“Okay, well the demon that was killing people. That was our fault.” Taylor replied with her head down and hair covering her face.
“What do you mean.” Lilly asked her then looking at us all in turn.
“Last summer. Picture a bright sunny day, light breeze, and the sweet smell of barbecue wafting through the air as my friends, and I enjoyed the freezing water in contrast with the sizzling summer temperature. The trees that towered around our backyard gave shade, and the warm breeze was enough to make anyone drowsy. As Bryce staffed the grill with a little help from Elijah, the rest of us were savoring the icy water that kept us from burning alive….”
“Carter, what are you doing writing a novel?” Bryce slapped him on the back.
“Button it, pea brain. I am setting the scene.” Carter flicked him in the side of the head, and I couldn’t help but roll my eyes at the two.
“Last summer we were all hanging out at Kingsley’s father house. His house his just of the beach and after a few drinks we decided to head down to the shore. We came across a cave and inside the cave was a box.” Bryce took over.
“It was old, rusted. On the lid it said OPEN AT YOUR OWN RISK of course we had to open it. That’s when a demon crawled out of the box. The box was no bigger than a jewelry box and was creepy. That demon was the one we saw at the side of your Uncle Robert. From that day, bodies would be found. We knew we were responsible for the deaths and have been trying to stop them since that day.”
“So, you guys found a box, opened it and poof a demon was set loose killing people.” She said unfazed.
“Yeah, I guess that’s the quick version.” I said keeping my distance from her. I was finding it hard to keep my hands to myself. The urge to touch her overpowering my senses.
“Okay.” She said, “I’m shattered and would like nothing more than to sleep right now.”
“That’s not all.” Taylor grabbed her hand.
“We went to see an old woman, she is known as a seer for help. She told us of a prophecy
Daughter of Darkness, child of night.
When the world goes dark and there is no longer any light,
She will rise. Those who have wronged her will fall as red fills the skies.
with an innocent face and eyes like fire
She can draw out your one and truly desire.
Is she wicked or heartless, can one be so cruel?
She may be the daughter of darkness but don’t be such a fool.
A vision of heaven she will weave her magic tune.
Her powers will bloom on the next full moon.
Daughter of darkness, child of night.
It won’t be long now until she comes into her birth right.
Leaving the city lights behind,
Living in a small town, where she will find.
Answers, answers to her destiny.
Once she has found the five that will complete the recipe,
The hands of fate will set the date.” Taylor sang in a haunting voice.
“Taylor it’s just a song. My mother used to sing it to me.”
“It’s not just a song Lilly. Don’t you see? You are the daughter of darkness, child of night. You have left the city behind. We need to figure out what the rest of the prophecy means.”
“Okay, what do you think it means.” Lilly asks.
“I think that something is coming at the next full moon, and we must be ready.” Taylor whispered almost afraid herself.
