Chapter 42

Something was coming. Deadly and big. Who would have thought that my son Kingsley and his friends were in the thick of it? Oh, he had been crafty all right. Hidden secrets. Everything he had worked for and had been working towards and his son held all the answers. “Master Simon is there anything else you require.” The butler brought me out of my thoughts.
With a smirk on my lips, I nodded my head once. “Get David and Allen to watch my son, especially the girl. Lilly the first opportunity they get when she is alone. Take her.” I rubbed my hands together and rolled my shoulders. The girl Lilly is the one he’d been looking for.
“You see, Lucille that good for nothing son you gave me might pay off after all.” Lucille glared at me through iron bars. Her eyes were sunken in, skin as pale as snow and hair matted with dirt. The beautiful, enchanting woman she had been before was long gone. But her eyes still shined brightly blue.
“You will never get what you want.” Lucille said in a soft almost inaudible voice. “Kingsley will figure out what he is and when he does…”
“Shut up!” I kicked the bars and Lucille scuttled back, yet the smile on her face haunted my mind. Kingsley had never shown any signs. He was worthless to me. She was just playing games. Trying to trick me and put doubts in my mind.
With one last glare at my wife, I walked away, but stopped outside Mrs. Oakley’s cell. The potion had worked. I had retrieved all the information I needed. All I had to do now was wait for the full moon.
“If you go into the woods at night. You may not like what lays within your sight; the power you seek you cannot gain. You are too weak.” Mrs. Oakley chanted at him. I hated the old hag with a passion. Burning fury welled inside. I had to control my anger. I still needed the old bat, and she is no good to me dead. Spinning on my heels I stomped out of the basement. I will get what I want. The two-women won’t put doubt in my mind. I will do what my father never manged to do.

As I left the room after a quick afternoon nap, I could see everyone bustling around the house, all dressed and glammed up. I wasn’t sure how long I was asleep but when I woke up, the sun was already setting. Carter didn’t even notice me as he ran past me, holding a shoe without a pair. Muttering something about Cinderella and Bryce been a mean stepsister. He was truly on of a kind.
“Lilly! You’re awake, finally!” Taylor exclaimed and I looked at her outfit. She wore a pair of leggings and a white Cami top underneath a denim jacket. Her hair was up in a curly ponytail, and she had a darker than usual makeup on, topped off with hoop earrings and a small locket necklace. She looked beautiful.
“What’s with the whole dressing up?” I teased with a smile. “You look really great.”
She smiled as she pulled me in for a hug. “Thank you. I am still really glad that you’re feeling better now. Plus, I wanted to try you know. It was such a clever idea having a barbecue for Kingsley’s birthday.”
“Wait what? Its Kingsley’s Birthday?” I asked in shock. How had I not known. Id been too wrapped up in myself.
This morning when I left the room for the first time after five days, smiling brightly, they were surprised but all too happy knowing that I was okay now. And everything else felt brighter and lighter around the house, and I was glad. Now I felt like an idiot for not knowing it was Kingsley’s birthday. After everything he had done for me.
I then gestured at her outfit again. “Party?”
“Of Course.” She laughed as we linked arms and descended the stairs.

I could hear the commotion downstairs and in the yard. I smiled. This was my chance. Get out find Lilith and get back without them knowing. Let them think they had me trapped. It would work to my advantage. Stealing a look out the window I spotted Victoria and a grin spread across my face. The image of her father’s lifeless body invaded my vision. The girl was a bitch. She deserved to feel heartache and more. I will play with her. But for now, I need to find Lilith.
Opening the window, I tread carefully out and onto the roof, keeping low and out of sight. Lilly was smiling and laughing with Taylor. Soon she would become the thing of nightmares and it was my job to make sure that happened.
Once I was over the roof and out into the street, Victoria’s little car stood out. Walking to the vehicle I sliced my hand on an army style knife I kept in my pocket and wrote in blood on her windscreen mirror. “You’re next.” Smiling I bolted down the street, satisfied that Victoria would be petrified. She should be. I was coming for her, sooner rather than later.
