Chapter 44

As we walked towards the party (it was only four blocks away from our neighborhood), I was surprised at how easy it was around my friends and my siblings all getting along nicely. I expected them to be so awkward around each other, or at least some kind of tension knowing that the Fab Five were kind of like ghost busters and my siblings were literally spawns of Lucifer. But as I watched them interact so easily, Bryce and Irene walking hand in hand, laughing, Kingsley and Yoongi talking about who knows what, and Taylor cheerfully talking Taehyung’s ear off who was silently listening, I realized that my two different families could actually get along after worrying what my mortal friends would think about me and my siblings being immortal and half-lucifer.
We arrived at the party soon enough and so many people were already there. There was a huge bonfire in the middle, and so many teens were sitting around it with red cups in their hand just talking and laughing. There were tents and giant canopies where they served food and drinks and a couple of teenagers were by the lake having a night swim. The loud, pumping music echoed throughout the place but knowing that Goldpeak was a much safer place now, no one was worried about someone going missing or someone getting killed. And I was happy to see something like this again after years of what seemed to be cautious get-togethers knowing that there were unknown forces on the loose.
But as we stepped into the party, the loud music and the yellow and orange light illuminated by the large bonfire bouncing off our skin, a sudden, horrible feeling dwelled in the pit of my stomach. I wasn’t sure where it came from, but something told me that something horrible and dark was about to happen.

“You’re a weak minded fellow, I am afraid, and like the feather pillow, you bear the mark of the last person who has sat on him,” the old woman that Taylor called Ms. Oakley said in a board matter of fact tone.
“What the hell are you talking about?” I gritted my teeth together this elderly woman had an away of getting under my skin and pressing the wrong buttons.
“Your mind was so weak you let the devil himself inside. With each kill you make a blackness will scare your heart and tar your soul. When your soul as turned black. You will belong to Lucifer. All humanity will be gone.” I stumbled back a little. The woman had made sense. For once it wasn’t a riddle or a load of gibberish. A part of me shouted to stop, to fight the hold that had taken over me. But the dark part of me wanted more, revenge, chaos, and death.
“I am not the one locked in a cage, between you and me I think I have the better deal.” I said with a smirk on my face, her eyes narrowed to crinkled slits.
“Eliyah, you are a naive boy. Fate and destiny have a way of paving the path. I am right where I am supposed to be.”
“Just tell me where Lilith the mother of all demons is!” I roared, pissed off at her all-knowing look.
“I am here.” A small croak came from the cage at the side of Ms. Oakley. Taking two small paces I was outside the voices cell. Red fiery hair, and the most vivid purple eyes stared back at me. A woman in her thirties maybe forties with the state of her I couldn’t be sure. Her body was slim, boney slim like her flesh was almost ready to disintegrate into her bones. She wore nothing but a once white nightgown. Now it was nothing but a rag hanging on for dear life.
“Your Lilith?” I asked in shock and denial. The mother of all demons wouldn’t be in this state. Surely?
“Yes.” She croaked again then began to cough.
“You?” I had to ask again. I am sure my mouth was hanging open.
“Listen lucifers puppet. I am Lilith.” She snaped and a blaze of anger ran through her eyes turning them from purple to red. Yes, she was definitely a demon.
“How’d you get in here?” I asked curious that Kingsley’s dad would manage to capture such a creature.
“I thought it would be a good place to take a holiday.” She replied sarcastically.
“Bitch.” I muttered back.
“How do I awaken Lily’s demon side.” I asked the crazed Lilith. Her eyes still shone a crimson red.
“You don’t.” she roared.
“How do I do it?” my hands dropped to my sides to form clenched fits of tension. The woman I’ve had to deal with today were testing my last nerve.
“You don’t. the demon is not a part of her, you can wake up. The demon is a part of who she is, the way she thinks and makes choices. Its not a sleeping animal.” For goodness’s sake. One genuine answer that is all I needed.
“No lucifer said I had to awaken the demon within her.”
Lilith laughed, a deep cackle. “Lucifer says a lot of things. That doesn’t make them true.”
“You’re lying to me!” I grabbed the iron bars roughly. Lilith didn’t back of, instead a satisfied glint appeared in her eyes and in a quick second her teeth had sunk into my neck. My vision became blurred, and everything began to fade away.
