Chapter 28

I sat on the bed thinking over the song that Taylor seemed to think was a prophecy. I just couldn’t see it. It was just a song. Sighing I walked to the vanity table and sat down to brush my slightly damp hair. Exhausted wasn’t the word for how tired I felt. But I knew if I didn’t brush my flaming red locks, they would just be a tangled mess of curls and frizz come morning.
Suddenly my fathers face appeared in the mirror. Letting out a high-pitched scream I jumped back dropping the brush to the floor and knocking the chair over in the process. “What the….” I couldn’t find the words as my heartbeat erratically and my breathing came in shallow breaths. We just stared at each other for a few good moments.
A knock on my bedroom door brought me out of my hypnotised stare. Kingsley popped is head in. “You, okay?” he asked, and I nodded. Seeing the concern on his face I quickly came up with a lie. “I am fine, I thought I saw a spider. No spider just a piece of fluff.” I said quickly.
“Okay. If you need anything….” He began
“Thank you, Kingsley, for your concern.” I shifted my weight from one foot to the other. I hated lying but for some reason I felt in this situation it was for the best. Demons, my father the devil I was still wrapping my head around the whole thing.
He gave me a slight smile and softly closed the door. Breathing a sigh of relief, I walked slowly back to the mirror. Picking the chair up and perching on the edge, I told myself to man up and not look like a frightened cat caught in headlights.
“How are you in there?” I asked and the left side of his mouth quirked upwards.
“Mirrors can be used as a doorway into other realms. They are the most favoured way of communicating for the witches.” Biting my lower lip to stop the overload of questions flooding out, I then asked, “So it’s like a mobile phone?”
“Kind of” he said with that mischievous smirk on his face that bordered an evil sneer.
“No, the reason for my not-so-subtle visit. I want to invite you to a gala event. The event is important to me, and I would love to have you there Lilith.”
Squeaking I asked, “where is the gala?” I was afraid he would say Hell. Was I ready to visit such a place? Did I want too?
“It is here in my kingdom of course.” A small laugh followed his words as if I have just been a silly little girl.
“You know there is a great restaurant in the town you could….”
“Stop Lilith. The gala will be held here and as my daughter I expect you to attend.” His voice was on the edge of impatience.
Swallowing a lump in my throat and my voice low I asked, “How do I get to Hell, and will I be able to come home?”
“Of course, you will Lilith. To get here you will need to go to the clearing where you last saw your uncle Robert. Then you will need to create a small cut in the palm of your hand and let the blood drip onto the soil. And speak. “I Lilith daughter of darkness, child of night request entry into hell.” A tightening sensation gripped my chest. The words “Daughter of darkness, child of night” echoed in my mind. No, it couldn’t be.
“When is the gala?”
“Tonight. So be ready my dear.” My father’s face disappeared and every nerve in my body stood on end. I had to go to Hell the place of darkness and torture.
Laying on the bed I waited until I thought everyone would be asleep, dressing in a red tank top and black skinny jeans, before sneaking out of the house and takin the half hour walk to the woods. Once I got there I almost turned back. But I thought better of that idea. Afterall I was dealing with the devil.
Digging the small knife out of my pocket I stared at it for awhile before gaining the courage to run it over the palm of my hand. Hot burning pain caught my breath as visions of my uncle Robert craving words into my skin fluttered across my eyelids. Closing my eyes I turned my hand so the blood dripped onto the dark soil that looked losses of all life.
Chanting “I Lilith daughter of darkness, child of night request entry into hell.” At first nothing happened and then on the third time chanting a dizziness took over me causing my legs to go weak. I felt like I was free falling from a great height.
