Chapter 89
Irene pov
"I've arrived in New York City!" I clenched my teeth and let out a shriek of wrath.
"It is the busiest city on the planet." When Yoongi brought it up, I found myself filled with emotion. We needed to put an end to Pride as soon as possible. He sure was making it difficult.
"Tay, are you alright?" I asked because his gaze remained fixated on the sky.
"There's an owl on its way here. When the sun is up" It wasn't long after Tay's shook his head that I observed an Owl swooping down. With a soft hoot, he landed on my arm and stayed there. It would only be necessary for an Owl to be in New York City during the daytime if he or she had an urgent message to deliver.
Slowly I pulled the folded paper from the Owl’s foot and opened it up. The words were written in blood, that only intensified my fear, the message was urgent and important.
“Morning Star siblings
Lilly is possessed by Lucifer. I fear that he will try to pretend to be her to gain your trust. Remember he may look like Lilly, but he is your father, and he is out for revenge.
Keep safe and keep on task. You must stop the sins.
Lilith.”
After reading the note out loud to the three of us, we were all taken away by what we had read. Was there any chance for Lilly if our father was the one who was in control of her life? We were all doomed to failure from the start.
"This is not a good situation." When Yoongi made that statement, the only thing I could do was nod my head to show my agreement. In a vice-like grip, fear had encircled my body and taken away my capacity to take a deep breath.
As Bryce's face flashed across my recollection, my dread was replaced with concern for Lilly's human companions. I was terrified for them.
"What if he uses Bryce, Taylor, and Cater. Guys. This was something he did to Elijah once upon a time." The manner I communicated my concerns to my brothers, who were both appearing contemplative at the moment, was met with attentiveness.
"Irene, we need you to go alert them right away. As a matter of course, we'll take care of Pride for now." Yoongi said, and I teleported to the house where Bryce and his friends were staying.
It was just the three of them, splayed out on the couch, completely immersed in some trashy television. It was impossible for my brain to fathom, and I didn't believe it could comprehend, the concept of people pretending to be someone else. Having televisions was a luxury that we didn't have in hell, which made me very happy. To be very honest, I thought watching television was a waste of time. Having said that, it was completely a result of human error. This is the type of thing I would never do on my own.
"Howdy, fellas." I repeated it in the most upbeat tone I could muster at the time, and the three of them turned to face me in union.
"Hay, Irene. Do you wanna join us?” Taylor inquired, and I responded with a shake of my head.
"I'm sorry, but I'm unable to." "I'm here to let you know that......" When Lilly walked into the room with a large bowl of popcorn, I had to take a pause from my chat.
"Irene?" she said, her face contorted in surprise. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. After convincing myself that it wasn't Lilly, but rather my father. I plastered a big smile on my face and rushed to give Lilly a hug.
"What a long time it has been since I've seen you!!" I shrieked and the bowl of popcorn leapt out Lilly's hands and landed onto the grey carpet below.
"I had heard that you were out, and I was planning on coming here to inform you folks." Just as I was about to finish, I turned to face the three human beings in front of me.
On the inside, I was a mess of jitters and butterflies. I'd arrived far too late. Father had gone directly to Lilly's circle of acquaintances. There's no doubt that he wants her to work with him. He would employ them in order to force Lilly to submit to his will.
“Are you joining us, Irene?” the smile on Lilly’s face was enough to make my legs tremble. I never thought it would have been possible for evil to seep through Lilly. But here I was, standing before my beloved sister who had been inhabited by our deranged father, evil was all that father knew.
“I am….” I was cut of when Carter jumped from the sofa is blond hair looked like it had been struck by a gust of wind as it whipped around his head.
“What!!” he screamed throwing is hands in the air then marching off. We all looked on bewildered.
“What was that about?” I asked looking at Taylor and Bryce.
“He’s been like that the last few days.
“I think the past year as finally pushed him over the edge.” Bryce said in a mocking tone. I knew he didn’t mean anything bad by it. Even though Bryce and Carter fought constantly, they shared an unbreakable bond. They both loved and understood each other.
“I am just gonna go see if he’s ok.” I said and waved to Lilly. As soon as I was out of the room I could breathe again. I ran up the stairs to Carter’s room and without knocking I barged in. Carter held his hair in his hands and was rocking back and forth.
“Make them stop Irene.” He said in a child-like voice. Peeling his hands from his head I pushed down the collar of his shirt. There on his neck was the mark of death.
I gasped and scuttled back. “Carter? When did you die?” I asked him. His eyes were big and held unshed tears.
“Two days ago. Kingsley sent me back. But I am not supposed to tell anyone.” He replied.
“I am glad you did. Kingsley has broken the order of the universe. I am sorry Carter.” I bent down on my knees in-front of him and took his hands in mine. “You’ve been marked by death.” He looked into my eyes with confusion evident across is facial features.
“What does that mean. I am going to die?” he asked, and I sighed. This was going to be hard to explain.
“Not necessarily. You say you can hear voices. Those voices you can hear will be names.” He nodded and said yes, “Cathy Stevenson,” I gave him a small smile.
“Well Cathy Stevenson is going to die. Your job is to deliver her soul to what ever destination she is destined for.”
He squinted his eyes and I closed mine.
“Carter you are what is known as The Deliver of Souls. Don’t fight the voice, the pull. Let it guide you and take you where you need to be.” he nodded, and I squeezed his hands.
“Fighting this will result in your death. I am sorry this has happened to you.”
Carter stood up and brushed down his clothes. “I have a superpower and I will use it for the good of everyone.” He said proudly and I gulped. The teen was unbelievable.
“Wait Carter,” I grabbed his hand as he was about to leave the room.
“Listen, downstairs, which isn’t Lilly. It is my father, Lucifer. He has taken control of Lilly’s body. I need you to warn the others when he’s out of hear shot. I have to go help my brothers. But I’ll be back.”
“Don’t worry Irene. I’ve got this.” Those words coming from Carter scared the living daylights out of me. But I had to trust that he could handle the task.
