Chapter 76
The school hallway sports black marble floors with white walls. Not a black mark, handprint, or scuff to be seen. Quite the contrast to the public High schools I have attended, and I’ve attended a lot in my years. I didn’t know then that we were running and hiding from my father. How that life seems so long ago now.
The doors are a glossy black numbered with sliver shinny digits that match the globe shaped handles.
“Remember start with a positive attitude. You have got this Lilly.” Mom says as we round the corner where the wall is covered in black lockers that seem to stretch on for miles. Exactly how many vampires were they and how many needed to attend this place?
Going in with a positive attitude is easier said than done right? When you make the jump, a great leap, you must commit too it. Isn’t that how you make sure you land on your feet? Graceful and in control. I try to paint a smile on my face, but it was just that, fake. My stomach was a ball of nerves and my legs felt like jelly as I followed one step behind mom.
We came to the end of the corridor which at black leather seats outside. Mom knocked on the door and within seconds a plump middle-aged lady opened the door and waved us inside with a bright and cheery smile.
“Good morning, Lilith, it is good to see you. Please take a seat.” The woman said indicating to two chairs that sat across from a deep brown table. I practically dropped into a chair and crossed my arms over my chest.
“Annabel, it is lovely to see you again.” Mom said with a small smile.
“Who do we have here?” Annabel asks giving me a once over before pushing her glasses off her nose and into position over her eyes.
“This is Lilly my daughter.” Mom beamed, as she nudges me with her shoulder. I think she was trying to prompt me to say something, but I kept my lips tightly shut.
“Lilith we are honoured to have your daughter here.”
The next half hour mother and Annabel rambled on and on about what classes I would be taking, the past and basically everything they could think off. I kind off droned them out and gazed out the window onto the courtyard where students were gathered into small groups. I wondered if I would belong here. If I would fit in with these people. Making new friends had never been easier for me. Taylor was the first real friend I had ever had. Kinsley, Bryce, Carter and Eliyah they tortured me before we became friends. In the end we had become close. Now I had to leave them behind.
“Lilly, I hope you enjoy your first semester here. I will visit you in the half term.” Mom said bring me out of my thoughts and kissing me on the head.
“Moms wait.”
“Erm, I can learn at home. You can teach me.” I wasn’t ashamed of begging. So much had changed in so little time I feared I wasn’t ready for another change.
“Sweetheart. This is the safest and best place for you to learn your new abilities in. You will be fine. Don’t worry.” She quickly kissed me on the forehead before leaving me alone with Annabel.
“I am just waiting for your tour guide and then you can get settled in.” Annabel stated and I nodded.
A few minutes later a knock at the door made me jump and in walked a beautiful girl with black hair that reached her hips, as the faint glow of the light hit her hair it looked blue in places. Her eyes a memorizing green colour.
“Stacey, this is Lilly. I expect that you will show her around and help her get settled in.”
“Yes Mrs. Dodge.” She responded and turned to me holding her hand out. I gingerly shook her hand and stood up.
“Nice to meet you, Lilly. I met your cousin Victoria last night and wow she is some girl.” I rolled my eyes. I can imagine the uproar she had caused. Which is the reason I had asked mom to let us start separately. I really didn’t want to deal with her snubby ways and drama on my first day.
“You are telling me,” I responded, and she let out a small giggle.
Stacey showed me around the campus and gave me some inside knowledge about some of the students. It was safe to say I now knew who the popular kids were, geeks, rejects and so on. The way she spoke about the students made me feel like Vampire High was no different than a typical high school.
“What’s with the name of this pace. Death Hollows?” I asked as she led the way to the girl’s dormitory.
“Oh, Death Hollows is the plain that we are on. Like we are in between the living and the dead. It’s the place where lost souls go. Some because they have unfinished business, others because they had stayed on earth too long and forgot who they once were. Then there are the dark souls. If you leave the school grounds, you’ll have to keep an eye out for them. Nasty things they are.” Great I wasn’t planning on leaving the campus.
“So, this is your room. Your lucky. You get one of the best suites in this place. All to yourself.” She smiled as she unlocked the door with a key card and motioned for me to go first.
My eyes nearly popped out of their sockets. The first thing I saw was the large white corner sofa with a glass coffee table and situated on top of a bleach white rug. The floors were the same black marble and the walls the same white as the school hallway. On the wall housed a fifty plus smart tv. The living space was open plan and the little kitchen and breakfast bar sat neatly in the corner.
“You won’t find much in the kitchen. Obviously, we only live on blood.” She laughed.
We walked to a white door that led into the bedroom. A large four poster bed sat in the middle of the large space with a nightstand at either side. Against the left wall was a study desk. Next, we checked out the bathroom which had a large double bath with steps leading into the tub. A multi jet shower.
“Wow I hope your sharing.” Stacey joked and I laughed with her. she seemed a light-hearted person and I was sure we would get along great. I thank her for her help, and she agreed to meet me in an hour to walk me to my first class. I can say I wasn’t looking forward to class. But I had no choice. I just hoped that Irene was right, and this year would fly by.
