Chapter 58
I was seated next to Ella in a long rectangular table filled with witches from their coven. Marie had called for a meeting at this untimely evening, which explained the cranky looks on some younger witches’ faces. Still, everyone was astounded as they stared at me, whispering that I was the Lilith. I wasn’t sure what that meant; maybe because it was controversial news when they found out that Lucifer had in fact another full-grown child?
“I am open for suggestions, please.” Marie told them. “But no killing. We will not kill Lilith or leave her out in the streets.”
Apparently, Marie held this emergency meeting talking about what they would do to me knowing that I couldn’t stay with them lest they wanted those vampires and werewolves to find me and put their coven at risk. And according to Ella, they weren’t in on the competition, and they only wanted peace and harmony in the town they lived in.
“We can help return her back to hell.” Ella suggested first. “Lilly wants to return to her siblings and father.”
“Yes, that is the easiest and simplest solution.” Another witch agreed. “If we keep her here for longer, those monsters could be at our door any minute.”
“And we’ll let Lucifer deal with his own problem. We’ll rid of his child and forget that this ever happened.” Another witch said. I turned to look at her and she was about Ella’s age, with a much shorter hair and an intimidating look.
Marie nodded as she pursed her lips. “Those in favor of returning Lilith to hell, raise your hand.”
I looked around. Almost everyone had agreed, and I let out a sigh of relief knowing that I’ll be back home with them soon. I know that they’re searching for me right about now, and if I stay here longer, they could expose their selves to more danger.
“Michelle,” Marie called out to a woman around Marie’s age, who was only staring at the table, her hands folded across her chest. She was one of the witches who disagreed on bringing me back to hell. “Can we ask why you disagree?”
Michelle took in a deep breath as she looked up. Her eyes looked at each of her sisters, before they landed on me. My heart stopped.
“This is our chance, Marie.” Michelle began. “If we give up lucifer’s daughter to the host, we will gain power over all creatures of the darkness. The host promised us that.”
Everyone was staring at Michelle with a shocked expression.
“Am I hearing this right??” Marie asked in disbelief, her Haitian accent thick. “You want our coven to give up this girl to the host? We are not like them, Michelle! We are witches of the light!”
Michelle scoffed. “There is no such thing as that, Marie, and you know it. You made that up.”
“But didn’t we promise not to walk in the path of darkness?” Marie argued. “We’ve lived this life for decades already; we are far from dangers, we are helping mortals, we are a friend to nature, and in return nature chose to protect us. What’s with the change of heart, sister?”
Michelle sighed, remaining silent. The tension was thick in the air, but no one dared to speak.
“I have the final say,” Marie announced, her pointed look on Michelle. “We are returning lucifer’s daughter to him in hell and forget that this ever happened. We will rid of any trails that could give us off to those monsters, so we will do intense spell casting once Lilith will leave. We will begin our session shortly. Ella, fix yourself and clean up Lilith as well.”
I turned to look at Ella and she had a sad look on her face. I couldn’t help but feel sad as well, knowing that I earned a friend throughout this crazy journey I’ve gotten myself into. It’s only been a short while since we met, but I had hoped to meet with her again soon and get to know her more, without all this race and hiding that I’ve been doing. But our circumstances wouldn’t allow us.
But as Ella moved to stand, as well as the other witches, Michelle slammed her fists on the table which caught everyone by surprise. She looked furious as her nostrils flared and she was breathing heavily.
“I am tired of living like this, Marie.” Michelle said in heavy breaths. “As much as I try to forget the past, the darkness from where I came, I cannot completely change myself. I am tired of living this life that I do not even want in the first place.”
“Michelle, what are you talking about?” Marie asked worriedly, holding her hands out towards her. “You seemed okay over the years. Why did you not tell me or any one of us here about you really feel?”
“Because I know it will anger you!” Michelle exclaimed. “After that incident with Ache two years ago, kicking her out of the coven when all she did was befriending an innocent werewolf, you went all out and kicked her out. She was just eighteen, Marie,”
Everyone was silent.
“We cannot risk our coven if we expose ourselves to even a sliver of darkness.” Marie explained to her apologetically. “Ache chose to be with that werewolf, so we did not have a choice.”
“You did not have a choice. You’re the only one who decides for this coven, and it is unfair!” Marie exclaimed. Her head suddenly snapped to my direction and my breath hitched.
“I’m taking her to the host Marie.” Michelle announced. “And I will leave this coven once and for all! I will rule all the darkness and none of you can stop me!”
Michelle exclaimed. Ella was quick to hold on to me as Michelle lunged at our direction, some witches struggling to keep her from getting close to me. But they were witches. They can simply and easily cast spells at their own convenience.
“Ut nos domus exercitum tenebris!” Michelle exclaimed as she pointed at me. And just like that, everything went black once again. The last thing I heard were the screams that came from Marie and Ella.
