Chapter 41
Yoongi and Taehyung were lounging in the feast hall, comfortably enjoying the quiet place around them when Irene appeared out of thin air, a puff of cloud smoke quickly dissipating from her face. The two brothers didn’t have to ask where she came from; they were already used to her frequent visits at Lilly’s place.
“Any news from Lilly?” Taehyung was the first one to speak.
Irene was grinning at them widely. There was some good news for the siblings. “She’s back. I mean—she’s feeling better. And she said that she wants the three of us to head over to her place tomorrow lunch time for a barbeque.”
Yoongi smiled at the news. “That’s great to hear. Did you girls talk? What made her change her mind?”
“I don’t know, I think Kingsley finally got through to her. I was even surprised when Kingsley told me about her little party for tomorrow.” Irene replied with a shrug, a grin still prominent on her face.
Taehyung scoffed as he brought his feet down from where it lazily sprawled out on the long table in front of them. “Interacting with weak little humans? I think I’ll pass.”
“You’re so full of yourself, you know that?” Irene spat at him. “Come on, guys. This is for Lilly. I couldn’t imagine how hung up she was when she found out about her mom.”
“Wait, pause.” Yoongi quickly piped in, and Irene just now noticed the confused and shocked look on both of her brothers’ faces. “Lilly will have to make a choice soon. Live her life as a human or be trapped in this hell hole and controlled by daddy dearest. Don’t you think we should drop back? Let her make this choice without our influence.” Yoongi said running his hands through his hair.
Irene quickly brought a hand up to her face, “We are not influencing her. we are just being there for her. She’s, our sister. I can still remember the way I felt when I found out who and what I was.”
Taehyung out a hand on her shoulder, “Do you think you made the wrong choice?” he asked her with symphony lacing his words.
“I do. Many days I think why did I choose this life? Yes, we have powers. We can travel, go places no human can. But we are just pawns in fathers’ games. Trapped and lonely.” Irne wiped a tear from her cheek and got up from her throne. They all had a throne each. To demonstrate that they were royalty of hell.
Taehyung watched as Irene looked around the vicinity, checking if anyone else aside from them was inside and overheard their conversation. She quickly went to the entrance, checked both sides of the halls and she let out a sigh of relief when she saw that the coast was clear. They were saved, only this time.
“Get changed. We’re going to the mortal world.”
And so, with the quick flick of their hands, they were now dressed into much more casual and trendy clothes, where they could easily fit in with humans and not pass them off as suspicious beings while they were there. The three decided to head over to the diner where Lilly first brought them, Yoongi suddenly craving for milkshakes and some burgers. In less than a minute they had arrived, and considering that it was summer, the diner was more crowded than usual.
Luckily, there was a vacant booth just near the entrance, and all eyes were on them—most specifically at Taehyung—as they entered and sat quietly. Yoongi had noticed the stares but chose not to say anything so as to not feed on his brother’s ego. Taehyung loved it when people adored him or let alone stare at him with wonder and amazement.
The same girl who took their orders when they first went there with Lilly was the same one who came up to them, quickly remembering their faces.
“Oh, hey, it’s you guys.” The girl greeted with a small smile. “Lilly not around?”
Irene answered for all of them. “She’s not quite feeling well. We had to get some snacks before we head back to visit her again.”
“Wait, we’re visiting her?” Taehyung whispered at Yoongi to which the older brother replied with a kick of his shin underneath the table and giving him a pointed look as if telling him to shut up. Taehyung swallowed the pain and glared at him instead.
The girl chose to ignore the not-so-subtle exchange. “Is that so? Well, I hope she gets better soon.”
Irene gave her a sweet smile. “Thank you so much. Now, how about those chocolate milkshakes and three baskets of cheeseburger and fries?”
The girl didn’t have to jot down their order. Instead, she nodded and quickly left, leaving the three to their own thoughts once again and the sole purpose on why they had to talk here and not at home.
But before they could dive into conversation, three girls wearing too-revealing clothes approached them, giggling as they caught Taehyung and Yoongi’s attention.
“Hi, can we help you?” Irene asked dryly. She knew that they were here to ask for her much too attractive brothers’ attention.
“We just couldn’t help but notice that you guys are new here…” a blonde girl asked, twirling her hair in her manicured finger.
“Oh…we’re just visiting.” Irene replied.
“How long? Because if you are staying for a while longer, you’re invited to join our annual summer-starter party happening tonight by the lake,” another girl with raven-black hair said.
“Will there be many adorable human girls such as you that will be there as well?” Taehyung asked, his thick South Korean accent making the girls giggle and melt in front of Irene, and she didn’t bother hiding the roll of her eyes.
“We’ll be there.” A red head replied with a wink. “There will be a lot of cute girls tonight.”
“Okay, we’ll see about that!” Irene quickly cut them off as she raised her voice, giving the girls a sickly-sweet grin. “Thank you for the invitation. Now go.”
The girls waved goodbye to the two men, who smugly waved goodbye as well knowing the impact they had on mortal girls. As they left, Yoongi couldn’t help but chuckle to himself while Taehyung had his chin up and smiling smugly.
“Anyways, are we not going to talk about the main reason why we’re here?” Irene continued.
Yoongi cleared his throat and his look quickly turned much more serious. “Right, right.”
“I was the one who dug deep about our pasts and the stories behind our parents when Yoongi-Hyung and I first got here. No one told me that this topic was scandalous.”
“Trust me, you do not want to end up like me when I was young.” Irene began. “As a little girl, I was curious about what happened to my mother. So, when dad was busy going on about his business here on earth, I went around people and asked about my mother. No one was able to tell me the story, until I bumped into an old man by the gardens telling me that he knew all the secrets that the devil kept.”
Irene went on. “He told me that lucifer began taking in women and taking their firstborn from them after his first wife left and betrayed him. The old man said that he was ecstatic to have his first child with that woman, but when she left and betrayed him, taking the child with her, dad was furious. He was broken. He got so mad that he even waited patiently for years just to get back at her at the perfect timing. When I was about to ask for the woman’s name, dad had appeared from behind the old man and ripped his head from his neck in front of me. I was so scarred at what I witnessed but I was even more terrified at dad. He was furious at me for being so ‘curious’ and he had to banish me in my room for a whole-ass month. That’s when I learned that you should never talk about his first wife and what happened unless you want him to unleash hell.” “Wait,” Both men said together.
“I thought that the nanny took Lilly.” Tay stated.
“She did. But who do you think got her and Lilly out of hell? Lilith was the one who originally took Lilly. But she then gave her to the nanny to care for. That’s as much as I could get.” Irene tried to explain.
After Irene finished her quick story, their food had arrived, and they began eating. Except for Taehyung, who still couldn’t seem to connect the dots. It was like he still had some unanswered questions. He just wasn’t convinced.
“I still don’t understand why no one has mentioned this. There’s no way that everyone in hell would forget such a big deal if it really happened.” Taehyung voiced out his thoughts as he played with the salty fry that he held in his fingers.
“Just eat your food and we’ll go visit Lilly.” Yoongi replied, his mouth filled with the juicy cheeseburger. That was all it took for Taehyung to push his questioning thoughts at the back of his head and eat quickly.
