Chapter 80
Taylor
“Bryce, we don’t have to do this.” I placed my hand on his arm and pleaded with him with my eyes. I understood why he wanted too, the reason behind it. To me it just didn’t feel right. What if they were innocents? Who was to say that they deserved this fate?
“Taylor, if we let them go. Who knows what we will be setting free? With Kingsley at Angel School and Lilly at Vampire Academy it is just us. Me, you and Dumb wit over there.” Bryce pointed at Carter who was absentmindedly making sure his blond hair was perfectly in place by the reflection on the window. I sighed and gazed back at the manor that housed most of my nightmares, if not all of them. It wasn’t the supernatural creatures locked up below. But the man who resided within the four walls. But no one had seen Mr. Davis in over a month now.
“Okay.” I whispered. Still not fully convinced this was the way. But Bryce was right. If we did release something deadly, how could us three protect Goldpeak? We couldn’t. we wouldn’t stand a chance.
“Carter. Is everything ready?” Bryce called and Carter shouted back.
“Bombs, away!!”
“No!!” Both me and Bryce shouted at the same time. It was too late. Carter had pressed the button and detonated the bombs that we had planted around the house.
Within a second a white flash filled my vision, and I began sailing in the air. I had no pain. No thoughts crossed my mind as crashed into the solid ground and everything went black.

“Carter?” I turned to the sound of the voice and grinned. Kingsley stood with his wings extended in what looked like a white corridor.
Yeah, I was jealous of his wings.
“What’s up bird man?” I asked him and he rolled his eyes.
“Carter what happened?” concern covered his eyes, and his lips formed a straight line. I knew that look. I better get straight to the point. No beating around the bush or Kingsley may beat me.
“I blew up your dad’s house. Taylor and Bryce helped.”
“You did what?”
“I planted bombs and went bombs away. Boom house gone.” I say in more simpler words, and they think I am the dumb one.
“Carter, your dead.” Kingsley said and I could physically feel the blood drain from my face.
“No way man. I have more life to live. Stuff I need to do before I die.”
“Carter listen, I can send you back. But it breaks every rule in the book. Promise me you tell anyone that you died, and I sent you back.”
“My lips are sealed.” I replied pretending to zip up my mouth.
“Watch out for them, keep them safe Carter.” Were the last words that I heard Kingsley say before my vision turned into a white light, then suddenly it went black.
***
“Carter!!” I shook Carter’s shoulder over and over. His face was covered in burns and his clothes were melted to his skin. I knew he was gone. But my mind and heart wouldn’t allow me to believe that was true.
“Taylor, he’s dead.” Bryce pulled me away from Carter’s lifeless body and I buried my head in his chest. I can’t lose another friend. I just can’t. The smell of smoke was clogging my lungs, causing my body to shake with fits of coughs and tears of pain.
“Taylor?” I pulled my head back from my brother’s chest then followed his eyes to where he was staring with utter confusion.
Carter was beginning to sit up looking bewildered. “Oh no.” I said aloud.
“Guys guess what?” Carter asked and we both just stared at him with our mouths agape. He was completely healed. If it wasn’t for the remains of the house behind him reduced to nothing but rubble and smoke, I would have not believed he’d just been caught in a bomb blast. But here he was. Not a scratch and the biggest grin ever on his face.
“I just saw Kingsley!” he exclaimed. Both me and Bryce glanced at one another.
“Carter, you died.” I told him and he just shrugged like it was no big deal.
“Erm, I know. Kinsley saved me. Sent me back….shit I was supposed to keep that secrete.” If Kinsley asked him to keep a secrete then he was a fool.
“Let’s go home. I am starving. Tay, order pizza on the way. It should arrive by the time we get back.” Carter walked on ahead of us.
“Do you think he’s okay. I mean is it really Carter?” I asked.
“We’ll know soon enough. No one can act like Carter. He’s one of a kind.” I had to agree. Linking my arm through Bryce’s we followed behind. Just as we reached the car, we heard the distant sirens.
“Let’s go.” Bryce said, moving more quickly.
As we drove away from the house of horrors, I couldn’t help the pang of guilt that seeped into my heart. However, I guess if I go to hell when I die at least the queen was my friend. That had to stand for something right?
