Chapter 35

The night was dark. Barley any moon or stars helped to light the way. I walked down the narrow path, round its sharp twists and turns. Until finally the bustle of the market could be heard. Soon the black market came into view. Grinning I walked the small distance until I came upon the stalls. Ms Oakley had hidden the truth from me. Shielded her mind so that I couldn’t reach into her memorises. The silly fool. It was only a matter of time before I got what I wanted. She’s lucky I didn’t kill her right then and there. When I saw what was in my idiot of a son’s mind and his friends, I knew Ms Oakley held the key to everything. If I didn’t know the old hag had vital information, she would have been dead. It was hard to control my anger, I wanted to kill her. Watch the life drain from her eyes. Instead, I had no choice but to drive into the city. In a remote part away from the hustle and bustle of the night life to find a potion to retrieve the information I needed.
Scanning the stalls, I came across, love potions, Poisons, herbs, charms, hearts, and other body parts. Finally, I found the store I needed. A poison to remove mind blocks. “Bingo!” paying for the item I quickly left the dark market. The sooner I got home the sooner I would know what Ms Oakley was hiding from me.

My father was still out of town and Lily had gone back to the underworld. I needed to see my mother again. I couldn’t let her give up. I needed her to hold hope. Eliyah was acting strange. On the borderline of insanity. I needed to have a chat with him. Find out what was going on with him.
“Who’s Philp?” Carter asked bringing me out of my thoughts. “What?” Bryce asked. We both wore a confused expression.
“He’s left his screwdriver.” Carter replied.
“Who the hell is Philp and what screwdriver?” Bryce asked impatiently.
“I don’t know that’s why I am asking you. But the screwdriver has his name on Philp’s. Look.” I couldn’t contain myself. Laughter trickled out of me until my body was shaking with deep belly laughs. Bryce gave Carter a slap around the head. It was no secret that Carter wasn’t the brightest bulb.
“It’s the make of the tool you idiot.” Bryce said shaking his head. I left the two in a heated debate about the screwdriver and the house.
I didn’t know when my father was due back. It was a risk I would have to take. The drive was short. The same eerie quietness that always accompanied my fathers home made my nerves prickle under the surface. I tiptoed through the rooms and into the basement. As I was walking with my head straight ahead. Someone called my name. softly but still, I could hear it. “Kingsley.” I turned around and a white face was pressed against the metal bars. As I stepped closer, I recognised the old woman. I had hoped when Taylor had gone to warn her, she had made it out of town. Far away from my father.
“What are you doing in here?” I asked her. I knew my father would be conducting experiments on her and God knows what else but still I asked out of shock.
“Don’t worry about me, young man.” She said in a quiet voice.
“You must leave. Your father is on his way back. If he catches you here. You will suffer the same fate as us all in here.” I shook my head no I had to see my mother.
“Go!!” she yelled, and my legs moved on their own accord, up the concrete stairs and into the hallway. Why did I listen to her?
Footsteps began to echo down the hallway and before I knew it my father had rounded the corner.
“What do you want?” he snapped, and I scrambled for an answer.
“I…. we wanted to know if there were any new assignments for us. You haven’t given us any in a awhile?” I asked quickly with a slight stutter.
“If I have a job for you, I will call you.” He snapped and I hurriedly left, feeling relieved that he had not caught me.

“Lilly!”
The excited call coming from Irene across the hall brought a smile to my lips as Taehyung and I entered the grand hall where the feast was held yesterday, but now, it was empty and quiet, except for the chatters from Yoongi and Irene.
“Morning,” I greeted them, and Yoongi nodded at me as Irene came running.
“Wow, I honestly thought I wouldn’t see so soon.” Irene breathed out while she held my hand. “I thought we overwhelmed you or something.”
“I was, actually. But I couldn’t sleep thinking about the truth about my parents, you know?” I replied guiltily.
“Plus, she could never resist her handsome devil brother.” Taehyung piped in with an overconfident smirk and I could only roll my eyes at him.
“You wish. If you breed the devil with an incubus, he is the result.” Irene retorted. She then faced me again, her grin returning. “Come join us. Have you had breakfast already? We could make you some American breakfast if you’d like. It’ll be served in less than a minute.”
I shook my head with a thankful smile. “I’m good, thanks. I had breakfast before we left.”
Taehyung scoffed, and I saw that he was already settled on his throne next to Yoongi’s, his long and slender feet propped up on the table. “She couldn’t possibly leave without getting a taste of her boyfriend’s breakfast. Which is probably very mediocre compared to what we eat here.”
“Shut up, asshole. He’s not my boyfriend. I snapped back as Irene, and I made our way to sit on our own thrones as well. Yoongi snickered and Taehyung’s lips curled into a frown. “Anyways, where’s our dear father?” I asked.
“He’s doing what he’s always doing,” Yoongi replied as if it was the most obvious answer in the entire world. “Torturing souls and looking for mortals he could deceive.”
“Speaking of what do you want to do first? You know, on the whole quest on finding out about your parents.” Irene asked me.
I shrugged. I honestly didn’t know where to start, just the fact that I badly wanted the truth. If Lilith was my mother, then what did that make me?
“What do you think we should do first?” I asked them.
“Guys, you know we could just walk up to dad and ask him directly.” Yoongi replied with a sigh.
“Tell her the truth?” Taehyung asked with a smirk. “Why did you think he hid the truth in the first place? Surely there’s something he doesn’t want to tell Lilly if he hid the truth from her. Plus, he’s the god of evil—of lies…you can’t just take the truth out of him so easily.”
As much as Taehyung’s overall presence and personality irritated me, I knew that he was right. There was no denying that. And after what he said, it only made my curiosity grow knowing that there was indeed something fishy going on about Lucifer.
“He’s got a point.” I sighed. My response brought a smug smile to his lips.
Irene sighed next to me. “You know we can still try. If he really doesn’t budge, then we’ll find it out ourselves. Come on, we’re Lucifer Morningstar’s children. There’s nothing impossible for us.”
“I love your optimism. And I know where we can find him.” Yoongi replied. “I heard he’s somewhere in Asia now. Making deals with mafia bosses or something.”
My brows furrowed but I couldn’t help the chuckle that escaped my lips. “Making deals with the devil in a literal sense, nice.”
“You nerd.” Taehyung mumbled quietly and I was surprised that I even heard him.
“Hey! I heard that!” I yelled at him raising my eyebrows.
“Come on, then. Let’s go to Asia right now!” Irene exclaimed as she got up from her seat. “But first, we need to figure out which part in Asia though.”
“We have his blood in our amulets. That should take us right to him.” Taehyung pointed out.
“Taehyung, sometimes you can be motherfucking genius if you’re not being cocky or horny.” Irene told him and I laughed. Was that supposed to be a compliment?
“Thank you, I guess.”
The four of us made our way back to the empty hall where we teleported yesterday, Yoongi answering my unsaid question as to why this was a preferred place to teleport.
“Because it’s quiet here and it’s kind of like the epicenter of the path to the human world. When you teleport in this area, it’s much easier and quicker to get to the place you want to go to.” Yoongi had said. “Kind of like an express train.”
I nodded thoughtfully. “That’s so cool.”
“Alright,” Irene began. “Just picture good old dad.”
