Chapter 40

I sighed. I knew that he was right. I allowed myself to sulk in this never-ending sea of emotions about my parents my full identity, knowing full-well that there was nothing I could do about it anymore. It was all finished. I was and am who I am.
“We miss you babe,” Kingsley added, a little sadder this time. I held his arm more tightly and he took this as an opportunity to hold me closer as well. “Taylor, Bryce, even your half-demon siblings…”
I giggled at that. “We’re not half-demon, Kingsley. Half-evil, I guess.” Well, I guess I was half demon. I just didn’t want to think of myself like that.
I felt his shoulders shrug. “What’s the difference?” He then let go of me and wrapped his hands in both my arms, turning me to face him. He was giving me a playful smile. “Come on, don’t waste your summer like this! Have fun!”
“I am!” I groaned out. “Okay, okay, I’ll stop sulking. I’ll be back to normal tomorrow.”
And with those words said, Kingsley’s eyes lit up in happiness. “Really?”
His smile was contagious, “Really. Why don’t we have a barbecue tomorrow? Here?” My eyes went wide as an idea came to mind. “Ooh, why don’t we invite my siblings??”
Kingsley chuckled at my sudden lively and enthusiastic behavior. “Whatever makes you happy, but after that. We need to concentrate on Eliyah and is downward murder spiral.” My chest hurt like it had been repeatedly hit with a hammer with the mention of Eliyah. All I could do now was find away to fix him.
We spent the rest of the evening eating my tray of dinner in bed, chatting about everything that I missed. I learned that Irene would come over every now and then to check up on me while hanging out with the others. She even told Kingsley to tell me that Yoongi and Taehyung sent their warmest regards—which made my eyes roll. If I had known better, Taehyung was fighting the urge to visit me himself and make fun of me if Irene wasn’t stopping him from doing so. It was typical of him. That’s when I realized how slowly I started to grow closer with my siblings even if we only met just a few weeks ago. Even so, I found myself missing their presence and missing listening to their casual banters. I just couldn’t wait for them to meet Kingsley and my friends. They would all get along so easily.
As for my dad, I still wasn’t ready to see him again. We weren’t supposed to meet until next month, so I still had a little more time to avoid him. The problem was my next visit with him he wanted to meet in the clearing in the woods. I couldn’t stop my mind going over the song that Taylor was convinced was a prophecy. The next time I would visit my father it would be a full moon. I felt on edge about it.
“You okay.” Kingsley asked and I smiled at him. I would be okay. I wasn’t going to let my parents’ past get the worst of me. It was time to live life on my own, as an adult—a half-devil, immortal adult, demon adult. I was going to live my own life, how I wanted to live, walk the path that I choose to live. Just because my father is the devil and my mother the mother of all demons. That should not determine who I am. It was time to take control of my life.
Slowly leaning closer to Kingsley, I pressed my lips against his. Soft and warm they felt against mine. He pulled me tighter to him deepening the kiss. Taking control of my life was going to start with letting Kingsley know how I felt.

If they thought that they were goanna get away with locking me in my room, they had another thing coming. I would get out. But for now, I would allow them to think they had me trapped. With two long strides I was standing in front of the full-length mirror. “My lord.” I bowed my head in respect.
“Lilly is showing too much good in her heart and soul. We need to change that. You need to coax the evil within her out. We have until the full moon.”
“Yes, my lord.” I bowed my head again.
“Eliyah do not let me down. My daughter will do what she was created to do. I will make sure of it.”
“How would you like me to awaken her demon side?” I asked unsure what the lord of hell wanted me to do. Not wanting to cross the line with his daughter and find my soul locked in hell.
“Use your imagination. Don’t let me down!” he said before fading away.
Staring at my reflection in the mirror an idea came to me. Lilith her mother was living her days out here in the mortal world. If anyone knew how to awaken a demon it would be her. I’d track her down, she will help me whether she wanted to or not. If that didn’t work, then he’d kill someone close to her. Either way Lilly was going to become what she was always meant to be.
