Chapter 29
I had promised my father that I would attend some kind of banquet. I didn’t want the others to know. I don’t know why I felt this way. I just had this feeling that somethings I should keep to myself. Plus, Taylor seemed pretty hung up on that song. I think the whole demon’s exist thing as gone to her head. When I thought the others were asleep, I snuck from the house and into the clearing in the woods. For some reason I could enter and exit hell with no problem. My father said I had special blood.
The grand hall smelled of roasted beef and so many other delicacies you would find in a banquet. As I wondered what kind of meat they ate or if it tasted the same as the food I usually eat as a mortal, my thoughts were cut short as we stopped just at the entrance of the hall, wherein from where I stood, I could see the amount of people inside, and it definitely was around a hundred.
Lucifer must have noticed my shock and curiosity. “I told you, today is a special occasion and you are late.”
“W-What is all this??” I asked.
“It’s all for you, my daughter. It is about time I formally introduce you to my trusted advisors and the upper class of the underworld.” He replied. He then gave me a once-over with a distaste in his expression. Did I upset him in some way? Was I not what he expected or wanted?
“Hold still,” he instructed. I froze in my place, knowing that whenever he did that, something bizarre would happen like teleporting me to a different place, enchanting some kind of spell on me that would make me follow what he said, or lifting me off my feet and making me fly. I’ve been used to experiencing this unannounced witchcraft, but I knew that there were still a lot that I haven’t witnessed yet.
And I was right.
As I stood there, frozen, with a simple flick of his hand over me, I felt warmth envelop my body and looking down a cloud of grey smoke covered me. I didn’t feel anything and was already surprised when I was now dressed in a red formal dress, the gown stopping below my feet and pooling on the floor around me. It was adorned with rubies and crystals and the cleavage part was covered with intricate lacy designs. I felt a sharp tugging on my hair, and I lifted a hand to feel what was happening up there. My head was now a beautiful, braided crown.
“Whoa,” I breathed out and I looked up at my father. He had a satisfied look on his face, proud of his work. “Are you some kind of fairy godmother or something?”
The question made him roll his eyes and I snickered. “I am much more powerful than those cliché, magical fairy godmothers.”
“I know.” I giggled. I watched as he then grabbed a thin golden chain out of thin air, and by the looks of the shiny and circular pendant, it was no doubt a necklace he was going to make me wear.
“Wear this,” he instructed as he gestured with his hand that I turn around and so I followed. With my hair braided in a neat crown, it was easy for him to put the necklace around me. The cold metal of the necklace touched my bare chest and I looked down, holding the pendant in my hand and examining it. It was carved with what looked like Latin writings, and if you looked at it from afar it would seem like it was only a simple design. I saw a small bump that stood out and I when I tried to push it, the pendant opened. It was actually a locket. And inside was a red, thick substance that looked like blood.
“What’s this?” I asked.
“My blood, in a necklace. It symbolizes power and hereditary. If you are wearing one like this, it is a simple yet powerful symbol of you being an immediate connection to the god of all evil.” He explained and I could hear the pride swelling in his voice. “And you, my dear daughter, you must be a proud daughter of Lucifer Morningstar.”
The last sentence made me feel a strange yet oddly familiar feeling deep inside me. I couldn’t explain what it was; I wasn’t even sure if it was a negative or positive kind of emotion. But I couldn’t dwell on it further as I watched my father instruct the guards by the door that we were ready for our entrance.
“Chin up and just follow my lead. I will do all the talking.” He instructed. He then offered his arm for me, and I looped my own in his, and together we looked ahead.
“! Begin the banquet.” Lucifer called out. The man who stood by the door bowed before quickly pacing inside, lifting the cane that he held before bringing it down on the linoleum floor thrice with a heavy force, the contact creating a loud sound that echoed throughout the room and instantly getting everyone’s attention.”
“Witches and demons!” He exclaimed. “The king of hell will now make his grand entrance for the banquet, together with his daughter, Lilith Archfiend Morningstar.”
And with that, the double doors opened wider, and all eyes were on us now, watching as we stood there. Silence filled the room, and I felt the small tug on my arm, Lucifer signaling me that it was time to move. I held my chin up as we began walking inside, all this attention at me making me nervous and worried that I nearly stumbled. I fought the urge to cower underneath the table and disappear forever, but I remained a straight face with my chin held high.
We walked to the front of the room, where another golden throne was displayed on top of a platform, together with smaller thrones on both sides of the biggest one. In front of the thrones was a long, rectangular table clothed with red and golden linen. We made our way to the platform, a small, elf-like creature scurrying to lift my dress and keep it from tripping me over. I thanked the creature quietly and the action somehow made him blush and giggle before running away quickly. I positioned myself on the right side just next to Lucifer, and we remained standing as the guests stood and looked at us, waiting for my father to speak.
“My dear advisors and members of the upper class, witches and demons, my beloved children, before we begin our banquet, may I proudly introduce to you another child of mine, a seed genuinely from my own, conceived and raised by mortals but is now reunited with her true father, here I present to you Lilith Archfiend Morningstar.”
My heart hammered against my chest and my palms sweated profusely, but I remained a straight face as I looked at the crowd in front of us before they erupted in applause and cheers. Some were smiling, genuinely happy, while some had judging and serious looks on their faces. Much likely judging me.
“And we will also be joined by the rest of my offspring as well, the rest of whom you are already overly familiar with.” He added. My brows slightly furrowed. He had other children?
