Chapter 34
I woke up to the sweet smell of bacon and freshly toasted bread wafting through the air. I smiled, remembering Kingsley’s promise. I kicked the duvet from me, getting out of bed and stretching my limbs out. I checked the time on the bedside table and saw that it was eight in the morning. Wow I had slept the complete day and night.
I brushed my hair and pulled it into a loose bun. Just as I was about to leave the room, the door snapped shut in front of me and I jumped.
“…dad?” I called out, unsure. What did he want from me now? I visited him just yesterday. That visit had left me unsettled in so many ways.
“Wrong, but I would appreciate it if you called me daddy.” A deep yet familiar voice spoke behind me, and I jumped again, shrieking a little at the sight of Taehyung plopped down on the bed wearing an all-black outfit. His black curly hair was the same as always; messy, yet he managed to make it look good on him.
“W-What are you doing here??” I asked as I leaned back against the door.
“Picking you up, of course.” He replied as if it was the most normal thing in the world. “Now, are you ready? Or do you want me to shower with you?”
I frowned as I took my hairbrush from the dresser and threw it at him. “Don’t be disgusting.”
He caught the brush effortlessly as a smirk played on his thin pink lips. “But you might be interested. Because you know, I’d be happy to help you explore that new side of you. And don’t worry; it’s perfectly okay. We’re Lucifer’s children for crying out loud!”
“Look, if you’re just here to get on my nerves, then I suggest you leave. I’m not in the mood, the man that I once thought was my father isn’t my real father after all. It’s the freaking devil and don’t get me started on my mom.” I told him as I brought a hand up to massage my temples.
I didn’t notice the sudden change of emotion in his face, and I nearly jumped when he was already inches away from me, staring at me with a worried look.
“Will you stop doing that??” I yelled at him angrily, but he didn’t even flinch. He had a worried look on his face as he searched my eyes.
“Is that why you almost had a panic attack at the diner yesterday?” he asked, the utter genuine tone in his voice surprising me. How did he know it was a panic attack?
I sighed as I nodded and looked down. “It scared me; you know. And I felt betrayed, for thinking all my life that I was a normal human being, but now I’m living a double immortal life, still processing everything and it just overwhelms me.”
“Hey, hey,” he cooed as he pulled me in for a hug. I didn’t hug back; I just let my body fall limp around his embrace. “We’ll figure this out, okay? We’ll help you. Don’t worry much about it.”
I nodded with a sigh. As I took in a deep breath, I got a whiff of the strong scent of perfume from his shirt.
“Just get changed and we’re off to the underworld. Irene and Yoongi are hoping that you’re feeling better and you’re ready to be with us again.” Taehyung added as he let go of the hug.
The thought of getting started on some digging about my real backstory tempted me, but I couldn’t just leave without letting the others know or at least have a bite of Kingsley’s breakfast for me.
“Actually, I think I’ll stay behind and get something to eat.” I told Taehyung.
He forced out a smile which looked more like a grimace.
I rolled my eyes at him.
“I’ll be waiting, okay? Just call for me.” He called out and I lifted a hand and gave him a thumbs up. I then made my way to the kitchen where surprisingly everyone was awake now and the air around the dining room seemed to be off.
“Good morning,” I greeted at them.
“Morning, get yourself seated and have some breakfast.” Kingsley replied with a grin, and I nodded. I could feel all their eyes on me as I sat, quietly filling my plate with food, and thanking Bryce who poured me a mug of brewed coffee.
“How are you, Lilly?” Taylor suddenly asked and I looked up at her.
“I’m good, everything is okay. I’m sorry about yesterday, though.” I had slept the complete day away. No wonder she was worried.
Carter cleared his throat. “Kingsley told us what happened.”
My eyes widened. He had told them. Why did I think he’d keep it to himself? I was an idiot.
“What??”
“But we just want you to know, Lilly, that it’s okay! We’re okay with it and we’re here for you!” Taylor exclaimed quickly upon seeing my shocked reaction.
“I know life hasn’t been easy since you found out about your father, and we’re here if you need any help.” Bryce piped in.
Eliyah scoffed. I glanced quickly at him. He had a different air about him. I just couldn’t put my finger on what it was.
I couldn’t find the right words to say. Instead, I looked up at Kingsley who had just finished cooking the last batch of bacon. “Kingsley, you told them??”
“How couldn’t I? They deserve to know, Lilly. You were so anxious last night that I knew we needed to help in whatever way we can.” Kingsley explained with a slight frown.
“Why, didn’t you plan on telling us?” Taylor asked, sounding slightly offended. I sighed.
“It’s not like that, Tay. I just—I wasn’t ready, okay?? All this newfound information about my life as Lucifer’s daughter has been overwhelming recently, especially after finding out about my parents. But I really was planning on telling you guys, just after I knew the real truth.” I explained. Taylor’s face softened.
“It’s okay, Lilly. No pressure. But if you need any help, about anything, you know you can count on us.” Carter piped in and Eliyah laughed. I didn’t know what problem it was but he sure as hell had one.
“Just on the matters in the human world, of course. I mean you are the mother of all demons daughter.” Elijah added with a wink and a sneer on his face.
“Thanks, guys. I know I can count on you. I just need to know more about this before we spring into action. My siblings will help me with some information we can gather from our father. I will ask you if I think of anything you can help with.” I told them and they all nodded in unison except for Eliyah who’s comment I chose to ignore.
“Alright, you little devil. Get some food in you before you leave for the underworld again.” Kingsley added and I nodded with a grin, eating my heart out on the juicy bacon and soft, cooked pancakes with whipped cream and strawberries on top. I quickly finished my food in a matter of minutes, quickly springing out of the table and calling out a quick goodbye to the lot of them before heading back to my room.
“Alright, just need to get changed…” I whispered to myself as I opened the closet. Just before I could pull my shirt over my head, I felt a sudden wind brush past me, and I knew instantly that it was Taehyung. I sighed.
“Tae, I know you’re there. And no, you can’t look at me while I get changed. You have to leave, and I’ll call you when I’m ready.” I called out to the room. I waited for a few moments for any response, and just as expected, Taehyung’s tall frame appeared just by the door as he sighed.
“You got me, sis.” He said with a sigh.
I shrugged as I opened the closet door wider and closed it behind me, quickly changing into cleaner clothes. I decided to wear a pair of denim shorts and a black shirt, since the weather has gotten hot lately, and the underworld is just as warm. After changing, I got out of the closet and neared Taehyung knowing that I had to hold on to him once we teleported.
“You look. Cute.” He spoke.
“Just shut up and let’s get to work.”
And just like that, Taehyung pulled me closer by the waist and I nearly stumbled at the sudden action. The last thing I saw before we disappeared into a cloud of smoke was his infamous smirk that I so wanted to wipe from his smug face.
