Chapter 96

"Well, how wonderfully beneficial," muttered Carter in frustration. I couldn't help but notice the electric fury sparking in Renee's eyes, like a lightning bolt coming to life.
"All I can offer is guidance," she retorted sharply, her hands moving in a flurry. Suddenly, a shining portal revealed itself before us. Uncertainty pulsed through me as I glanced at my siblings and Carter. Should we take the plunge? Or was this a cunning trap? After all, Carter had just insulted her.
"You must make haste, lest all be lost," Renee urged, her voice etched with urgency. Tay was the first to rise, leaping through the portal, leaving us no choice but to heed him. As I crossed the threshold of the shimmering vortex, my body felt as though it were being pulled apart in all directions. A kaleidoscope of colors burst before my eyes, sending a wave of nausea washing over me. And then, in a flash of blinding light, I was hurtling forward before crashing down onto the icy floor. My knees throbbed with the impact.
The hammering pain in my head made it hard to see straight. "Irene, Tay...Carter." My voice was shaky as I struggled to get the words out.
"That was the worst transport I've ever experienced," Carter muttered, his face scrunched up in disgust.
"I'm here," Irene panted, her hand reaching out in the darkness.
"Where in the world are we?" Tay's voice was thick with confusion, but I couldn't help feeling grateful that we were all alive and well.
Gradually, my eyes cleared and the outlines of our surroundings came into focus. We were standing in a grassy clearing, an all-too-familiar sight.
"So, any bright ideas?" Carter's raised eyebrows were practically screaming for a plan.
"I think I might have one," I said softly.
"This...this is the spot where Lilly turned into a vampire and killed our father," Irene and Tay spoke in unison.
"I fear we must stop our father's plans," I declared, my mind awash with a sudden epiphany. The world had been upended since that fateful day, and it was our duty to rectify the wrongs in order to rescue Lilly from her dreadful destiny.
"Give us strength," Irene exclaimed. "We must find a way to vanquish our father before he can claim Lilly and perform the dark ritual." She added.
"But how?" Tay interjected. "We must not fail again. This time, we must use his own blood to coat the weapon that will end his life." Irene added with conviction.
I couldn't agree more, this time we needed to make sure he was gone for good. "Carter, this is where you come in. When our father meets his end, we need you to guide his soul to the other side. We cannot allow him to linger in this world a moment longer." He was new to the supernatural world. But I had faith that he could do what was needed. There was too much at stake to fail.
Carter's complexion turned as pale as a ghost. "How am I meant to do that?" he asked, fear lacing his voice.
"You must wait on the other side," I replied. "When our father departs this world, you must project all your strength and ensure that he crosses over. We are facing the devil himself, Carter. The road ahead will not be easy."
“What if I lack the strength?” Carter questioned, lacking confidence in himself.
"Fret not, brother,” a familiar voice resounded, and we pivoted to bear witness to Kingsley in all his celestial splendor. Ethereal white plumage unfurled from his back while his eyes twinkled with the purest sapphire hue imaginable.
“Kingsley?” Carter raced towards the Angel, enveloping him in a loving embrace. Together, they exchanged hearty pats on the back.
Suddenly, the trees surrounding our little clearing began to whisper and sway, and we all froze in alertness.
"Get a room," drawled Victoria, nonchalantly emerging from the foliage with a strapping, wolfish fellow in tow. His scent filled my nostrils in an instant, and I knew we were in the presence of a lupine.
My companions and I gaped at Victoria, all clamoring to ask the same question. "What are you doing here?" demanded Irene, her shock palpable.
"Some witch sent me, said I must right a wrong or something. She didn’t give me much of a choice.” Victoria muttered, clearly uninterested in her own presence.
Carter, ever the inquisitor, turned his attention to the lanky newcomer at Victoria's side. "And who might this be?" he inquired, studying the boy with a critical eye.
"This is Alexandra Reagan," Victoria replied, a note of pride in her voice. "Heir to the Reagan pack."
“And the wolf?” Tay asked. He had bad history with wolves and he clearly showed his dislike for the new comer.
“He is with me.” Victoria said her eyes flashed red before returning to normal. I just hoped she could control herself. The girl was unhinged to say the least.
“All our recent paths have lead us here.” I stated. I had never been one to believe in destiny but I couldn’t deny that in that moment it was destiny’s work indeed.
“Ok guys. Here is the plan. Carter and Kingsley will wait on the boarder to life and death for father. They will ensure he crosses over.” I paused and looked to Carter and Kingsley who both nodded in agreement and understanding.
“Victoria, you and your pet will be the distraction. We need you to distract father so that we can kill him. He his stronger than us. So we need to be smart.” Victoria took a step closer, “you want me to what be bait?” She asked with blazing eyes.
“No, we want you to work your charm and distract father.” I corrected her. And she smiled, “oh I can do that.” “Tay we need a demon blade. One enchanted.” Tay smiled at me a wicked grin. “Renee said as much and she as offered to enchant the blade. I know just where to find one, the mother of all demons herself holds the most ancient blade to date.” I glared at him. “How did Renee tell you this?” I asked. We were all together and I couldn’t recall such a conversation.
“She spoke to me within my mind.” Tay answered and I felt tricked.
Ignoring the feeling I turned to Irene. “Irene do you think you could collect Lilly’s blood.”
“Yes, we are clearly in the past so it shouldn’t be too difficult.” She responded. With a deep breath I just hoped that we could succeed.
