Chapter 48.
Alisons POV
I hear murmured voices surrounding me as the blackness begins to fade and I feel a consuming emptiness inside of me, I try to force my eyes open but their glued together and a sharp pain shoots through me as I begin to feel the searing burn in my stomach. I flinch when I hear Valerie call my name quietly and her hands begin to form on my shoulders as my feeling returns.
I finally blink as I see a blurry Valerie standing above me, she smiles, my vision slowly begins to return and I look up to her unable to talk.
“Oh finally you’re awake!” She says and I try to speak but all that comes out is a raspy groan.
“Oh sorry.” She says handing me water helping me drink it while she raises my bed. My body tenses as the pain continues and I wince trying to move.
“What happened?” I finally get out as I gently pull myself up.
“Well there was an attack.” Valerie starts as flash’s start filling my memory.
“I was stabbed.” I cut her off remembering Melissa standing in front of me.
“Yes, you were.” She confirms looking down to her hands.
“The baby?” I choke out already knowing her answer as tears prick behind her eyes and she looks up to me.
“I’m so sorry Alison.” She says shaking her head and I feel my heart break apart inside of me as a unbelievable pain spirals through my chest and I can’t breath.
Valerie climbs in to bed wrapping herself around me as I feel tears pour down my face, the pressure on my chest continues as I cry leaning in to Valerie.
“Where’s Evan?” I manage to say.
“Him and Alpha Lorenzo are in the office with a meeting they are dealing with Emmett and he doesn’t want you to worry about any of it. You just focus on healing.” She answers as I sniffle aggressively trying to calm my tears.
“How long was I out for?” I ask softly wiping my face.
“3 days, I’ve been here the whole time. Evan has been really mad since the attack so I told him to focus on Emmett and I’d stay with you.” She answers as my eyes widen.
“3 days!” I say louder in shock as a jolt of pain flash’s through me. “Why so long?” I ask as her face once again drops down.
“Well when I brought you in Blair had to rush you in to surgery, Emily assisted. You had lost a lot of blood, I packed your wound and ran you here while Evan escorted me because the fight was still going on.” She says softly. “You needed a blood transfusion so you should heal a bit quicker then normal, our blood has healing properties to it. Blair had to repair a few lacerations caused by the knife, everything went fine in surgery so we expected you to wake up shortly after. We didn’t know why exactly it took you so long, but you’re awake now so that’s all that matters.” She says with a small smile.
“You rest for a little bit, I’m going to call Everly to make you something to eat.” She says as she stands to leave the room.
“Can you please ask Evan to come see me?” I say as my voice is low and scratchy, she nods stepping out as I lay back resting.
My mind spins remembering Melissa standing in front of me, her wicked laugh echoing in my mind, I wonder where Salem is. Maybe Valerie will bring him in after I eat, I really hope he was able to hide before he seen anything. My heart hurts thinking of the baby I lost and what our family could have been as tears well behind my eyes. I fight back the tears as my head pounds from the pressure inside, I was just getting used to the thought of having a baby.
My hand clings to my stomach as I silently cry in to my pillow, I hear footsteps past the door as I quickly sniffle wiping my face before someone walks in. I roll over to see who it is when the bright blue eyes meet mine melting my heart. He smiles softly at me but it fades quickly as he notices my tears, my chest is heavy with the way he looks at me. He walks over to my bed slowly climbing in to it he rests his head on my legs as he sobs deeply making my body ache while his pain fills me.
I feel his sorrow spread from him as our emotions collide in to one big miserable mess, his breathing begins to slow as I concentrate on calming him. I breath deeply thinking of the love I have for my mate, the warm embrace of the pack and project my feelings to him while his heart rate slows and he starts to calm down still clinging on to me.
The door clicks back open as my eyes shoot to the movement while Valerie comes prancing in with a huge plate of pizza.
“Oh sorry Alpha I didn’t realize you already made it here, would you like me to leave?” She asks as he shakes his head sitting up moving to the chair beside me.
“How are you?” He asks me gently as his blue eyes pierce in to me making me want to cry again.
“I’m alright.” I respond hoarsely as my throat still hurts and my eyes fall to my hands in front of me as I feel ashamed.
“Alpha Lorenzo will be staying longer then originally planned, he has also called for his warriors to join us as we plan for battle.” He tells me as I watch his perfect lips move while his soft voice fills the room around me. “Also he found his mate while he was here!” He says with a smile.
“Oh really? Who is it?” I ask as I force a smile back.
“Actually is Gemma, Romeo’s younger sister. So she will be going back to his pack when this is all over.” He says as I nod still smiling.
“I’m happy for them.” I say softly as sadness returns to consume me.
We sit and chat about what I’ve missed over the last few days, they try to keep the conversation light but there’s still a hollow ache inside of me. I eat my pizza Valerie brought with difficulty as my throat throbs, why does it hurt so much? I wonder as Valerie stands.
“Well I’m going to head out if you don’t need me any more.” She says looking to Evan as he nods and she walks out after giving me a long hug.
“Blair said I can take you home tonight if you feel ready.” He says looking over to me taking my hands in his.
“I’d like to go home.” I answer nodding as he stands.
“Ok I’ll get your discharge papers signed and we’ll get going.” He finishes with a smile as he steps out leaving me alone with my thoughts.
I slowly sit up and grab my jogging pants from the side table pulling them on as I squint from the pain in my stomach, bending really hurts but what should I expect after being stabbed and miscarrying a baby. My mind goes dark as anger fills me, Melissa took my baby from me and she’ll die for it.
I pull my shirt on next stopping mid way to look at my scar as the wound burns, each stitch pulling the skin tight as dried blood lines the slice mark. Tears threaten to spill as I fight them back again slowly standing, Evan comes up behind me grabbing my arm to help hold me up as we leave the medic centre.
Back at home Evan sets up a small desk beside our bed allowing me to work when I hear small footsteps race down the hall.
“Alison!” Salem yells leaping on to the bed.
“Woah buddy, Alisons still really sore. You need to be carful when you’re around her, no jumping ok she needs to heal.” Evan says holding Salem’s shoulder as he talks and Salem nods his little head agreeing.
“I’m sorry Evan I’ll be more careful.” He says softly as he lays down beside me and I snuggle up to his little body.
Evan crawls in next to us as he wraps his arms over Salem and around me, Salem giggles as he gently wiggles back and forth. We didn’t even get a chance to tell him about the baby, I think as my mind wonders back to my stinging pain. I subconsciously pull them tighter to me as my chest tightens and I force the thoughts away.
