Chapter 67.
Evans POV
“Valerie just called.” I say to Lorenzo as he sits up in his chair listening closely to me speak.
“She found a few herbal mixes that if combined can result in the symptoms we were seeing in the rogues.” I say calmly as he nods.
“Ok herbal.” He repeats.” So witch’s, or a witch practitioner?” He asks as I nod.
“Valerie had a vision of someone calling her name, when it was over her pages had turned to a witch named Griselda.” I say as his face drops, worrying me when he jumps back in his thoughts and I can tell he’s talking with his wolf.
“What? What is it?” I ask anxiously not wanting to wait as he comes back.
“My father talked about a witch named Griselda, she was an apprentice for a powerful sorcerer when our grandfather was alive.” He says softly looking down as I see him wracking his brain.
“Do you think it’s the same witch? She’d have to be like 80 years old?” I question in confusion as we both sit back in our chairs.
“Maybe we should talk with your dad, he may remember more about her.” I say as he nods slowly still lost in though.
“When will the scouts be back?” I ask as I look over to him still resting my head back.
“Should be this afternoon. Let’s go get lunch and prepare for their arrival.” He states as we both stand heading to the door.
We get in to the kitchen as the girls are setting out home made pizza laughing away at god knows what.
“Seems like fun in here.” Lorenzo says as his aura rises making me chuckle, we both sit down with the girls to start eating when all of a sudden the Alpha house shakes abruptly and Lorenzo and I both jump up quickly running outside shifting as we go.
“Hide!” I demand to the girls before taking off after Lorenzo.
Getting outside we both look around frantically trying to find what made the sound as Lorenzo’s wolves comes barreling out surrounding us and we all search for the sound. Smoke rises from the east side over the trees, we take off in to that direction.
The smoke is thick as we force our way through it, the ground is warm when we near the impact space. We duck under the smoke looking around not seeing flames after inspecting the area, we only find broken chunks of rock laying around and a crater in the ground. We decide to head back to the pack house. Having no idea what caused the explosion or why but at least it was off pack lands and no one was hurt.
Getting back to the pack house everyone shifts and returns to what they were doing, Lorenzo and I shift before going back inside.
“What the hell was that?” I ask in confusion.
“I have no idea, but we double guard duty tonight.” He states coldly as we walk inside calling the girls.
“What happened!” The both shriek running up to us as we explain what we seen.
“Do you think it was the rogues?” Gemma asks with confusion as we all sit back down to finish eating.
“Why would the rogues blow up part of the forest, and there wasn’t any fire so how can we even say it was an explosion?” Lorenzo answers as I look to the table, he’s right in reality we have no idea what that even was.
“Did you notice it smelt weird?” I ask remembering the taste in the back of my throat from when we were in the forest.
“Yeah actually now that you mention it, it smelt like floral perfume.” Lorenzo answers as the girls look between each other.
“We need to eat quick, the trackers will be back shortly so we’re going to need to meet them outside.” Lorenzo says calmly as we all finish up our food before heading outside to wait in the garden on the south side.
We wait almost an hour before we see 5 groups coming back, where are the other two? I wonder to myself as they all run over, some switching while others stay in wolf form. The closer they get I realize they’re wolves carrying other injured wolves.
“Call the clinic let them know we’re coming in.” I say to the girls as Lorenzo and I take off to help the trackers.
Rushing in to the clinic we set down 3 badly injured wolves as 4 more sit down to have minor injuries checked, we let the doctors know what we found as the un injured trackers come in to speak with their Alpha.
“Can you guys tell me what happened?” Lorenzo asks calmly as the wolves seem rattled up and we motion for everyone to sit down in the waiting room.
“We were running back to the pack and the ground started shaking, each group went in different areas when we all left, one group went of to the east. They found a small group of 15 rogues, out of no where a huge bolder just dropped from the sky on top of the rogue village. One of our teams was in there.” He explains as we all sit listening.
“That must have been the rumble we heard.” Lorenzo says calmly looking to me.
“Do you think this witch is knocking off her packs she views as liabilities? Maybe she knows we’re on to her?” I say in response as he nods looking back to the tracker.
“What did you guys find out there?” Lorenzo asks softly as he calms the tracker to speak.
“We found a few small packs of rogues all living in a normal seeming wolf pack just smaller in numbers, but they all seemed to operate pretty normal.” He states looking to his hands.
“Except the last group who caught us as we were coming back, that’s how these guys got injured.” He answers as we look down.
“What were they like?” Lorenzo asks.
“They were aggressive and mean they weren’t fighting us they were just fighting, we fought back as hard as we could and out of no where they all just stopped and took off back in to the forest. He finished as Lorenzo nods.
“Did you smell anything weird?” He asks the young wolf as he closes his eyes trying to recall.
“Flowers really strong flowers, I could smell it off and on and I didn’t know what it meant.” He says as Lorenzo nods standing.
“Ok thank you for your help We’ll talk again soon.” He responds before we leave.
“We’ll meet in my office in a half hour I have something I need to do quick.” Lorenzo says before leaving Gemma with us and we all walk back to the garden to relax for a few minutes before getting back to work.
