Chapter 53.
Alisons POV

When we return to the pack lands a wave of misery consumes us and I almost choke on the devastation. I mind link Evan as he carry’s me through our land, smoke and fire all around us.
“Evan what the hell happened here?” I ask as he mind links back.
“I’m not sure but we need to find out fast.” He responds as he crouches to the ground and I jump off him while he quickly shifts back and I take a look around at the ruins.

We approach our home as Valerie comes running out.
“ALPHA! LUNA!” She yells as she sprints across our yard.
“Valerie calm down, what happened here?” Evan asks grabbing her by the shoulders.

“Rogues attacked! I got the pack in to the tunnels as Lorenzo held them off, he fought them with the warriors as long as he could but we had to retreat.” She says frantically trying to catch her breath and Evan nods taking in everything she’s saying.

“They started lighting the pack houses on fire I’m assuming to draw out the pack, then out of no where the rogues just stopped fighting and took off back to the boarder. Lorenzo decided to fall back until you were back and he could make a better plan.” She finishes as I put my head in my hands and sigh. We literally can’t catch a break.

“How many injured? Any casualties?” Evan ask quickly as tears poor down Valerie’s face.
“3 dead about 12 injured. And Alpha, they took 6 wolves. 4 she wolves and 2 male.” She finishes looking down.
“Lorenzo was probably right, Emmett’s taking more wolves to build his numbers.” Evan says out loud to himself as he thinks about the missing wolves.

I meet the girls back in my office as Stella works with them on some basic spells.
“Ok lady’s looks like we need to start moving a bit quicker, we need to work on a location spell to find Emmett and the rogues. Evan wants to take this battle to them.” I say as Stella closes her book looking up to me.

“This isn’t about a location spell but my family’s strongest power is our ability to shield, depending on how many warriors you have I might be able to use my shield with the girls projection power to hide the first wave of warriors.” She says softly as I look at her in confusion.
“Projection power?” I ask as she stands to continue our conversation.

“The reason the girls were able to grab Valerie is because of their projection, when they connected to each other they reached out to Valerie because she was also a new witch allowing the 3 of them to connect.” She explains as I try to keep up but to be honest my head just spins.
“Ok so you’re saying you can hide some of our warriors by projecting your power with the twins?” I say confirming that I understand and she nods in response.

“Ok I will go and speak with Evan, find Emmett and practice projecting your shield.” I say before taking off out of my office. God this women bugs me, hopefully she can just do this, help the girls and go back home. I wait outside Evans door as I calm myself down and prepare what I’m going to say to him.

I knock and walk in not waiting for an answer as Lorenzo and Evan stand overtop of a round table with a map of the surrounding packs and forests. I stand behind them as they don’t even notice me.
“Evan can we talk quick.” I say softly as his eyes shoot up to me.
“Yes you can come with us, we’re going to the prison to intimidate Joel.” He states and I nod following them out the door.
“What do you need to talk about.” He asks as Lorenzo slows down to a few steps behind us.

I explain the girls plan as he nods listening to me talk as we reach the silver doors.
“Over a quarter of the pack lands are burned and we are going to need to renovate 2 of the pack houses.” He says as Lorenzo once again joins us outside the prison.
“We will deal with that after the battle.” I respond as he nods pushing the huge door open as the smell of death and blood hits me in the face and I cover my mouth as we walk through.

Coming to a room surrounded by bars I notice a dark haired man withering away as he’s slumped in the corner.
“Joel!” Evan says as the body doesn’t move.
“JOEL!” He demands louder and his head slowly rises.

“What do you want?” The beaten down wolf says coldly.
“We’re ready to talk.” Lorenzo answers as he opens the cell pushing the door aside.
“Why did you bring your mate?” He says shooting me a harsh glare.
“Seeing as your mate was the one to try and kill her, I feel like she has a right to know why.” Evan snaps back and I feel his deadly aura push forward.
“And what makes you think I’ll tell you anything?” Joel spits as he looks between the men in front of me.
“You will tell us what you know, or you’ll die.” Lorenzo says as he shifts his hands to claws and Joel laughs sickly.

“I have nothing to hide anyways, she lied to me too.” He says as we all look to him with confusion.
“Melissa and I found out we were mates as teenagers, but she was too hung up on the Alpha to care about the mate bond.” He says looking through Evan with resentment.
“I tried to get her to give in to the mate bond for years, but somehow she was able to ignore it. Which never made sense, the pull of the mate bond was killing me, and it didn’t even seem to affect her.” He states sadly, you can feel his sorrow waft off of him.

“Out of no where after you banished her she decided to start up with me, we were meeting in secret for the past couple months and I thought she loved me, the bond began to grow and she even asked if I would talk to you about allowing her to come back.” He rambles on as we all continue to listen.
“I asked her if I could run away with her but she always refused and I didn’t know why, but I guess now I know. She was only using me to get back in to the pack.” He finishes as his head drops to his hands as sorrow fills the room again flowing off of him.

“What do you know about Emmett’s plans?” Evan asks as Joel’s eyes shoot up to us.
“Emmett? What does this have to do with him?” He asks as shock crosses his expression and you can tell he doesn’t understand.
“Melissa has been working with Emmett from what we know, she has been for a while.” Evan responds as Joel’s head goes back to his hands and tears threaten to spill.

“He obviously doesn’t know much and Melissa was playing him as well.” Lorenzo says to Evan as I continue to stand back and watch.
“Yeah I don’t think we’re going to get anything more from him.” Evan agrees as Lorenzo slices his claws through Joel’s neck without even looking over to him and I gasp. I cover my mouth as my body freezes in shock, Lorenzo just killed him, he helped us and he just slit his throat.

“I’m not willing to take any chances.” Lorenzo states without stuttering as if he read my mind, my heart pounds in my ears not wanting to believe what I just witnessed. We leave the prison as I fight the need to puke, I don’t think I’ll ever get used to watching this stuff.

“I think when you leave for battle I will stay with the pack that way I can handle everything here and you can focus on Emmett.” I say nervously, being human means I’m not as strong as them, I can’t really help out when it comes to anything physical. Evan agrees as we get closer to our house and Lorenzo leaves a trail of blood dripping off his fingers.
“We leave in the morning.” Evan states and we walk through the door.
