Chapter 93

Danny’s POV
“We need to go see Dad. Dianna refused to give anything to anyone, except Dad. She wouldn’t even tell us what was happening, she was so scared” Claudia says, picking up Sophia. “I was heading up to see him now. Oliver wants to meet us in his office shortly to discuss what Dianna wanted to give us” I tell her as we head out of our room.
“I wonder what it is?” she says. I shrug my shoulders at her; “I don’t know, but it sounds as though she got plenty of information for us” I answer her, reaching Mum and Dad’s room.
“What did Dianna give you?” I ask Dad, coming into his room. He doesn’t answer me; he has his head phones in and is listening to something. “He has been listening to phone conversations for the last 4 hours. I can’t distract him, apparently” Mum answers me, with a sigh.
“Why did Dianna only want to deal with Dad?” Claudia asks Mum, putting Sophia down in her walker; mum got for her. “She only trusts Henry and I. She told me about the bugging of Michael’s phone, but wanted to wait for Henry to get back. Quite smart of her, really” Mum answers, taking a seat next to him.
Dad looks up and pushes pause on his phone; “Sweetheart, I didn’t see you come into the room.” “Clearly! What’s on the phone conversations?” Claudia asks him. “I haven’t gone through all of them. We need to get Matthew over here; without David and Barnaby” Dad states and I raise my eyebrow at him.
**“Does that mean, they are working with Michael and Callum?”** Jesse asks me. **“I’m not sure”** I tell him.
“Oliver’s expecting us in a few minutes. We need to start heading down to his office” Claudia says, giving mum and Sophia a kiss and the three of us head out the door. “It’s an interesting audio” Dad says, as we catch up to Todd, also heading over to Oliver’s office.
“How’s Joanna?” Claudia asks Todd. “She’s disgusting. Did you see what she ate? How can anyone have pickles, pancakes and chocolate swirl ice-cream for breakfast?” he huffs at us. “The same way, Claudia could eat pickles and corn chips with everything. Cereal, apple pie, potatoes” I laugh, giving her a wink.
“What did Dianna give you?” Todd asks Dad. “Let’s get to Oliver’s office and I will reveal all” Dad answers him as we head into the castle and knock-on Oliver’s door.
“Enter” we hear Oliver call out. Sariah, Phyliss, Matthew and Raquel are already in the room. “What do the recordings reveal?” Oliver asks Dad. “They are interesting to say the least. Matthew; there is a reason I asked you not to bring Barnaby. David was so we didn’t draw suspicion to him” Dad reveals.
“Are you implying…” Matthew starts with a growl and Dad puts his hand up and pulls out his phone.
‘The old fool thinks you have no allies around here’ a voice comes through the recording and Dad hits pause. “Is that?” “Barnaby” Matthew whispers, finishing Claudia’s question.
Dad hits play again; ‘they are starting to separate and leave the territory. Matthew asked for our help’ a lady’s voice states on the recording. “That’s Rebecca, Barnaby’s mate” Matthew says as we keep listening.
‘Becky; I want the women. The men are too dangerous. As my cousin, I expect you to tell me when they leave the castle territory’ Michael says and we all look at one another. ‘They are leaving together; one on one would be easy for you to take but 15-20 ladies at a time; it will be too hard to get all of them. They refuse to separate themselves; even to go to the bathroom’ Rebecca answers and Dad presses pause again.
“I had only reached the conversation of Dianna leaving, before I came down here. It was a conversation between Michael and Callum. Dianna had to leave. The patrol saw her wolf Arial running outside the borders, Michael got the impression she was helping us. She said she wasn’t and they got into an argument because she was happy to show she wasn’t by marking him to show whose side she was on. Michael refused and she left when he fell asleep. The next bit of the conversation, Callum was going to deal with her in the morning anyway and they will have to find another way to do it, now she is gone” Dad explains.
“Why would they want to kill her?” I ask, concern etching across my face. “Michael noticed a change in her, after we saw her. A few conversations before he was talking about it to Callum. They didn’t know what happened and thought she had changed her mind about what they were doing. They couldn’t have someone around them, who was against what they have to do. I can only guess their mentality; finding Arial running outside the territory, was the excuse they needed” Dad answers me.
“The recordings are from when we saw Dianna. Matthew, Barnaby has been giving Michael and Callum everything we have been doing. From having Craig locked up in the dungeon. Todd and Daniel joining the two packs. Even us putting safeguards on both territories so they can’t enter. They knew about the old River Pack moving and we were going down to help them. They thought it was a perfect way to try and take…” Dad continues and trails off before saying Claudia.
“Barnaby knew about Tracey. If they wanted her before now; why didn’t he give away her whereabouts?” Matthew asks him. “Did you order it to be a secret?” Todd asks him. “Yes, I suppose I did, at the time” Matthew answers, looking relieved.
“That would do it. One thing Dad did teach me; if you order someone, they can’t go against you as it’s an act of treason. Simon tells me he is still hurting from the guilt, for not refusing Dad’s orders regarding Danny” Todd exclaims, looking at me. I can see the guilt in his eyes also.
“I still don’t understand and I guess we need to ask him ourselves. He had plenty of opportunity to take one of us. Hell, Brett has been over at your pack, helping on numerous occasions by himself. And us leaving to try and get Todd in as his eyes and ears. We knew he figured out Todd was helping us, but why didn’t he try and take us then?” I ask, looking at Matthew.
“I don’t know. We will need to ask him about it” Matthew answers, still looking confused at the situation.
“Callum was also pissed off with Michael for killing James. They needed him as an ally being Danny’s biological father and he went and ruined it by killing him. He has mentioned it a few times and I get the impression Michael is over his complaints. Just so you know, Callum thought James could worm his way into Danny’s and Claudia’s life by getting to know his granddaughter. The only thing that astonishes me is they still won’t consult James from the underworld; so, Michael mentions. They know about us speaking with James; they didn’t know about us speaking with Dianna” Dad continues his findings.
“I didn’t tell them, Alpha’s prerogative. I wasn’t sure what was happening at the time and decided to leave it be. Glad I did now” Matthew informs us.
“Nesbeth is a big part of their plans; she is the one instigating everything” Dad adds, looking at me and Claudia.
“What do we do about Barnaby?” Phyliss asks everyone. “Nothing. We use him” Matthew says, a smirk appearing on his face. “What do you mean?” Oliver asks him. “We know he is passing on information; we can use that to our advantage. He knows I am here talking to you and I will have to give him a report. Why not tell him, something he would like to report back to Michael and Callum?” he explains, his grin growing on his face.
“What information are we going to give him?” I ask, looking around the room for a response. “Does he know Dianna is here?” Claudia asks Matthew. “Yes; it was no secret” he answers her.
“Tell him; she refuses to give us any information. She doesn’t want to be with Michael at the moment because he doesn’t trust her and came here because she knew it would piss him off. If he wants her back; he has to come get her” Claudia states, and there were nods around the room.
“Also tell him, Tim, Brett, Danny and myself are going to be at your pack today to help with whatever” Todd includes, giving me a ‘we’ll get him’ look. “Why am I going?” I snarl my question at him. “Because you are the one with the ability to get people away from me. Tim’s ability is cool and all, but I need someone to keep them away” he answers, giving me a smirk.
“I might just let them take you for shits and giggles” I huff back. “I can’t believe you too ever hated one another. You act like typical siblings, to me” Oliver states and Todd beams at him as I sigh and slouch back in my chair.
“You want to be taken?” Claudia asks Todd, her face contorted with worry at me. “No; I want Barnaby to do something, so we can nail his ass” Todd snarls back at her.
“We have a patrol going to the southern border. I will pull them back and have you, go out there with Barnaby. If he tries anything, you can bring him in” Matthew says, still astonished by what he heard.
“Sounds like a plan to me” Todd says, his eyes glazing over. *“We have to help Matthew patrol their southern border. We will meet out the front in half an hour”* Todd tells us all in the mind link. *“Righto”* Tim answers back. “If I must” I huff at him.
