12. Makes Sense
Lilith Pov
We stayed in bed all afternoon. My body demanded Eric, I wanted to burn him into my flesh. He was driving me wild. Kali yelled in my head. “Enough! I want to see Axel you had your time I want to see my mate.” I pushed the top of Eric’s hair back. He laid there, his eyes telling me he could go another round. “Kali wants Axel.” Eric stopped smiling and looked serious all of the sudden. I didn’t know why that idea made him so upset.
“What is wrong with that?” I asked. He breathed out. “Lilith, Kali has a black fur coat; do you know what that means?” “It means she has black fur.” He sighed. “Have you ever seen a wolf with black fur?” “No, but I have not met many shifters, is it uncommon?” “Black fur indicates which pack you were born into. I know you were not raised in a pack, but you did come from a shifter and based on your color I know which pack your father belonged to.”
I was desperate to know more. Missy knew nothing of my father and if she did, she never told me. Eric spoke again, “Your father was from the Draco Pack. They are the only shifters that their wolf has all black fur like Kali’s.” If Eric knew which pack, he was from I wanted to find him. I knew I would get information when I graduated this year, but Eric knew of my origins, if he knew the pack he would probably know where they were, and we could go and maybe I could meet my father. “I know what you are thinking Lilith, but we cannot go after the Draco pack. Not just because they have not been seen in years, and no one, me included, has any idea where they are right now, or even if they are all alive. The Draco Pack well...” He stopped talking. “Tell me.” I encouraged.
“They are not like other shifters; their nature is twisted.” I lie they're not knowing what to say. “I don’t understand.” I said quietly. “The draco wolves, that is sometimes what they are referred to. Their wolves demand things, dark twisted things.” I thought about Kali. She did tend to lean on the side of wanting to do some things I didn’t. I had been a slave to controlling her urges. In the beginning it had been almost impossible. Rob had been the one to help me get a grip on her. The constant physical activities helped with that. The small crimes I committed seemed to appease her for the most part, but had I not had someone guiding me to help with her nature I would have lost to her will. I still struggled sometimes.
“You know what I am talking about, Kali and what she likes?” I nodded. He continued. “Well, the Draco wolfs they give into their black wolves, it can drive them to insanity I suppose but I don’t know for sure.” He paused and went on. “I know you said you do sports and train at Rob’s gym and run Kali a lot and that you do let her give into her cravings sometimes, it is probably the reason you have such a good grip on her. Also being part human, I am sure helps.” I just stared at him. “Do you think I am a monster?” I had to know.
The way he talked about the Draco wolves, told me he didn’t think highly of them. “No, I am not saying that Lilith. I mated you, knowing you had a black wolf. I even understand your urges, but I also know you have to fight it. You can’t act on them here in Grey Crest Pack, especially as you are the Luna.” He was holding something back. Kali was scratching the inside of my mind and saying “Who cares about all of that. I am what I am. Axel loves me he is my mate, Eric is your mate so does any of this matter?” She started screaming to let her out. I fought against her control. Which was physically painful. I winced as she tried to get out and do as she pleased.
“Are you okay?” Eric asked. I nodded. “You want to say more” He paused and continued “I am nervous about the pack seeing Kali. They will not like that she comes from the Draco Pack. They attacked years ago. It was brutal and completely unnecessary. Their wolf side drove them, for no other reason than to wreak havoc.” I shuttered, Kali was fighting me. “I am sorry Eric, but I have to let Kali out. I can’t talk about this now. She needs out. I can’t always control her.” Eric looked concerned. My face twisting a little in pain. He nodded. “Can you just hold on for ten minutes. I will make sure patrols move from a spot in the woods and you can shift.”
I nodded. Trying to fight Kali telling her “Ten minutes and you can stay in your form for as long as you want.” She stopped fighting me and said “Not a second more.” Eric quickly dressed and I saw as his eyes seemed to become vacant as I also changed back into my clothes. We exited the house and he led me into the woods. When he nodded. I quickly stripped out of my clothes as Kali seized my body shifting into her form. I saw through her eyes as Axel was before her. She licked his snout and suddenly bit into his neck.
I didn’t know what she was doing and pushed her out. At this point she wasn’t forcing me to see what she was doing and I was thankful for that. I let my thoughts wander as she did whatever she planned to do. I thought about what Eric had told me about the Draco Wolves. It made sense, I knew what made Kali happiest over the years. She liked to do the wrong thing. I satiated her by doing the smallest crimes I could. It appeased her. But, I could also understand that sometimes she was hard to control.
Eric saying that the Draco Pack gave into their wolves urges. It was sometime painful not to. Kali was there for me, but she also sometimes was against me, when she had enough of not getting her way. It was a weird dynamic between us. Filled with both love and resentment. But she listened when I needed her to and she knew me better than anyone, because she lived inside me. I could even understand Eric’s assumption that Black wolves would inflict insanity. I felt on the cusp of it the first year after I shifted.
Kali’s euphoria flooded me as she pushed into my thoughts. She was running in the woods. She had never run in the woods, and she was reveling in it. Axel was chasing her, but she was faster. Maybe this would help her. The woods instead of on the big wheel at Rob’s. It could be just what she needed. Also maybe actually being around more shifters and being part of a pack instead of the way it was in the city.
There was no pack, all the shifters that Rob took in over the years. We were all friendly enough but were not constantly around one another. All connected by Rob, but it was not anything like what Eric described a Pack being like. This was more than what I had in the city, though I didn’t know the full extent of it right now. They had this thing called mind link, which sounded pretty cool. I had only ever had Kali in my head. It almost sounded like a hive of bees.
“Thankyou so much Lilith” Kali said. She had thanked me before, and I always loved it when she did. “What for Kali?” I asked my wolf. “That you brought us here. The woods are so much better than that fucking wheel. I can’t even imagine life without the forest around me. We should have been in the woods our whole lives.” I was glad this had made her happy. It seemed like the first thing to make her happy that was not on the line of being wrong. “Kali, with the woods here can you try to behave when we are at the pack. When we go to the city I swear we can steal, but not here okay?”
She was in a good mood. This would be the best time to ask her. “I can’t promise that to you Lilith. I like doing that too.” “Can you just try please. I know we don’t always see eye to eye, but I do try to give you what you want.” Kali had to know that. I did try to give in as much as possible without being too destructive to the world around me. Kali didn’t say yes or no. She just remained silent, until she let me have control and I shifted back into my human form. Axel was in front of me.
I looked at Eric’s wolf. He was grey and white. Beautiful and massive. “Axel” I said stepping closer to pet him. He came close and he let me run my hands along his head. The sun was setting, and I knew we had been out here for many hours. I pulled my hand away and noticed it was wet. I looked down and saw in the dim light it was red. “Are you bleeding?” The wolf's head bobbed. “I am sorry I didn’t think Kali would bite you so hard I thought she was being playful.” My heart sank for him.
Why had she done that? “Can you give Eric control I want to know what happened.” He dipped his head again and I gave him a small kiss. Kali roared in my head before I took a step back. She didn’t like what I did. Axel shifted into Eric. I tried to push Kali out so I could have a private conversation with my mate. “I'm so sorry.” I said seeing his neck that didn’t have my mark bleeding. “Let’s get dressed, we can talk about it back at the packhouse.”
