28. Football Game
Eric
Juliet and Lilith stood there and were waiting for us outside of the school’s stadium. So many of the kids here were staring at me and Noel. I also noticed a lot of the guys were looking at Lilith. She seemed to have no idea, or she simply just didn’t care. I mind linked Noel “Is it always like this with the stares?” He responded. “Yep.” I don’t know how I feel about that.
I didn’t like them looking at my mate the way they were. I understood humans always looked at us. We were tall and muscular even the female shifters. They, however, were not as muscular they would blend in if it was not for their height. But Lilith was short and had curves for days. She was muscular but it was not as noticeable as the other female shifters that had lean frames.
I mind linked Noel again. “Do they gawk at Lilith? I mean why didn’t you tell me?” Of course they gawked. They were doing it now. But why had Noel not told me. “I didn’t think you would want to hear it. Besides Lilith never pays anyone much attention other than Juliet and me. She talks to people and is polite but doesn’t really engage with them. There was nothing to worry about.” I shot him a look. Lilith said. “Eric?” I turned my head and looked at her. “Can you hold my stuff for me until after the game?” She had her phone and her wallet out. I nodded and took the two things.
I stuck them into my pocket. Lilith then leaned in and kissed me on the lips. It was a lingering one that was intense and fierce. Her arms snaked around me and squeezed. I think she had to be making a point to claim me in front of her peers. I held her tight too. I liked this side of her. She pulled away and then gave me a quick peck on the lips. “I got to go. I will see you after the game. I may be a little while, but I will make it quick getting cleaned up.” Juliet nodded at her and she ran off. I looked at that tiny skirt of hers.
Juliet said, “We should sit in the student section Noel.” I looked at the two of them and Juliet then said. “Well, we are students. Sorry Eric but you aren’t.” She shrugged. Noel responded. “Yeah, I am going to sit with my brother.” Juliet frowned looking kind of sad. “You are welcome to sit with us.” I offered but she still looked down as she looked at all her peers going into the stadium. “Okay I guess that would be fine.” I nodded and we went to find a place to sit.
Noel pulled out his phone as soon as we sat down. Juliet was watching the field. I saw Lilith with the others, all of them stretching while the stadium filled up. We had nothing like this at the pack. Juliet looked to were all the students were laughing and hanging out waiting for things to start. “Juliet, you don’t have to sit with us. If you want to sit with your classmates, you can.” She looked back at me. “I always sit there, just alone. I mean once the game starts, I am included because of all the school spirit; but before that I am not. I don’t know if Lilith told you, but it's kind of just been the two of us in our friend group, well until Noel joined us.” I nodded. I understood now she wanted Noel to sit with her so for once she was not sitting alone. I looked at my brother. I mind linked him. “Noel go sit with Juliet with the other students.” He finally raised his eyes from his phone. “But Eric.” He mind linked him again “Now, I command it.” He nodded and looked at Juliet. Both went to where the other people were.
I sat with my eyes going forward to watch Lilith. The game should be starting soon. My eyes never left her. I watched as a few of the football players approached the cheerleaders. It was too noisy to hear what was being said. But it didn’t escape my notice when Lilith rolled her eyes and then she was pointing at me. All of them turned to look. Then it seemed like the girls were bouncing and one of the football players shot me a glare. What the hell had she said?
Suddenly a woman sat down next to me. “Hey, I don’t think I have seen you here before. Which one is yours?” She looked at the field. “Lilith, cheerleader.” I pointed to her. “Oh, that is nice. I am here for Xavier.” She nodded to one of the players. I turned my face back to watch Lilith. “So?” What was this woman doing? The game was starting, and the women was still sitting next to me. “Are you married?” I looked at her, was she seriously trying to hit on me.
“I am in a very deep committed relationship.” Of course, Lilith and I were not married. We had something much deeper than that. I hated it when I had to be referred to her as her boyfriend. It was such a trivial thing compared to what we were. “Oh? I am married.” What the hell then. Why are you hitting on me? My inner monologue said. “Look I don’t want to be rude, but I am trying to watch the game.” I felt her eyes on me, but I kept my eyes on Lilith who was waving her pom poms in the air. Suddenly my mate’s head turned, and her eyes locked onto the women, and she had a hateful look. Then the women handed me a slip of paper and got up and walked away. I was relieved but Lilith looked murderous. I ripped up what I had been handed and put the pieces into my pocket, not wanting to pollute.
I watched as Lilith was tossed in the air. She was dam near irresistible with her flying like that. The backflips and various things she did during the game. I heard the student section chanting the cheers and yelling. I glanced and saw my brother who seemed to be getting into the spirit. It was weird for me. I trusted and relied on him so much I sometimes forgot he was only nineteen. The game ended with the Bears winning. Cheerleaders rushed the football team. All except Lilith who walked calmly behind them but met with the players. Then the students who had been in the bleaches were stampeding to the field.
Cheers broke out and fist pumping. This was nothing like what our pack did in our school. I liked this kind of spirit. I knew Grey Crest was close. We often viewed each other as a family, but it was never like this. Maybe we could learn a thing or two from humans. I liked watching how the kids of this school were so visibly happy to celebrate together. The school was chanting at the top of their lungs. Juliet and Noel were with Lilith and now she seemed to be happier than when she had walked to the football players. It seemed she was only close to those she viewed as friends.
I wondered if she would eventually have this kind of comradery with our pack. I knew she was making the pack stronger and for her age she was aware of the world. I assumed it was because she had a hard life up until this point. Soon the kids started to dissipate. Juliet was walking away toward the school with Lilith and several others. Noel was walking toward me. When he got to me, he said “Okay that was kind of fun.” He had a big goofy smile on his face. “Juliet said Lilith is going to shower and they are going to get dressed. Then we will grab some food and head to the party, they insist we go to. I mean this was more fun than I expected but that party seems like it will be boring.”
I was having a good time. I like seeing what Lilith had experienced so often. It helped me know her better. I could understand now in wanting Juliet to come visit. She really besides Rob was her lifeline. Or at least had been until I came along. She seemed totally at ease with her routine, and I liked that. I wondered if she was always predictable. She had to be with her regimented way of life. Noel and I hung out for a bit just talking and I told him about the Women who had hit on me. He laughed hysterically saying “A mom wants you.” He was practically choking on his laughter.
Finally, the girls emerged. My throat bobbed. Lilith looked like sin. She had on tiny black jean shorts that hugged her way too well and then fishnets under them that peaked out the top of her shorts on her midriff. Her shirt was cropped, not as short as some of her others, but it was navy blue with a skeleton rip cage on it. Her hair was down, her face had been left light of makeup and her light flannel shirt that was kept open complemented the whole thing. If the elders saw her now, I was sure one or two of them would flop down on the ground from a heart attack. I glanced at Juliet to see her wearing ripped jeans and a light cropped purple shirt. I didn’t put much thought into it.
Noel however I noticed was ogling her. I had never seen him do that. At least not to anyone who had not been his mate. But that had been three years ago. “You guys want to go grab a burger before we head to the bluffs. Juliet and I love this dive with the greasiest burgers in the city.” I nodded, still obsessed with how she looked. I had never seen anyone dress how she did. Even the other packs that were not near as prudish as ours the females never wore anything like this. “Noel Ride with Juliet.” I grabbed Lilith, practically dragging her to my car leaving my brother and Lilith’s best friend in the dust.
