77. Dad and his Cabin

Eric

I stood outside my father's cabin. Noel to was looking at the thing. It was not fancy at all, nor was it big. We had driven four hours to get here, some of it was up muddy roads that were not made for most cars. If it had been complete winter, we would have had to use snow mobiles to reach it. I wondered if my dad would come out to great us. I knew he had heard us pull up. The door opened and there he stood. He was as tall as I was his hair had grown out since I had seen him last, it was now long and very grey. He had a matching grey beard that was almost as long as his hair.

He didn’t smile seeing Noel or myself. “Want to come in?” He spoke. No hello or anything like that. I knew he loved us, but he had lost it when our mother died. He was so distraught over her death. Noel had experienced the same thing, but he had not been mated for many years like my parents had been. He hadn’t had children with Jean. I worried he would turn out like dad, but he hadn’t, I was thankful for that. I wondered if something happened to Lilith would I become a shell like my father?

Noel and I followed him in. I was happy to see his cabin wasn’t in a complete mess. “What can I do for you boys?” He asked. Noel took a seat on the old red plaid couch, and I sat next to him. Our dad sat in a worn leather recliner. He had no phone out here, so he didn’t know we were coming. He was still on the pack link, so we had mind linked him when we had gotten withing range, but he didn’t have any clue what was going on back home. When he left, I wanted him to remain in the pack and he had but made sure he was far enough away not to feel or hear any of it.

Noel spoke first. “Eric found his mate.” Our dad’s eyes landed on mine. I couldn’t tell if he was happy or not for me. “Well?” He spoke. I didn’t know what he wanted. “Are you going to tell me about her or just sit around looking at me?” He asked. I didn’t know if his reaction was going to be positive or negative when I told him that I had a mate. I had told Noel, by no circumstance were we going to divulge that Lilith was a Draco Wolf. He had agreed whole heartedly. “Her name is Lilith.” I told him. “She is named after a demon?” He asked and I nodded. “So which pack is she from?” He asked.

“She isn’t from a pack.” I said and his eyes narrowed. “She is not a rogue dad, that I promise you. She grew up without a pack in the city, she was never a part of any so don’t get worked up.” I told him. He still looked like he was scrutinizing me, Noel said “Dad, she is a fucking bad ass.” Our dad snapped at him. “Watch your mouth boy.” Noel pinched his face and mumbled. “What was that, you want to say something to me.” Our father snapped. Noel clenched his teeth. “Nothing.” But my little brother mind linked me. “Lilith wouldn’t care if I swore.” I smiled and looked at him.

Dad, had to ruin the moment. “Boys you know it is not nice to have private conversations while in the company of others.” Noel mind linked me again. “Lilith does that all the time, she is a good influence, maybe tell dad that.” I couldn’t help myself, but I laughed, and Noel did too. Our father looked sour. “So, your mate I see has not helped with your manners. Maybe have Ellen meet with her she could teach her a thing or two.” Noel and I couldn’t contain our laughter now. Lilith had corrupted her, and she was no way more fun to be around. “Stop that right now!” Our father scolded us.

We eventually got a hold of ourselves. Neither of us apologized, we didn’t see the reason. “So, besides the fact she doesn’t care if the two of you have manners what is she like?” Dad asked. “She is only half shifter.” I told him, he made a funny face. “Huh, I never met any half shifter, she has a wolf, right?” I could tell he was genuinely curious. My father always loved discovering new things. I didn’t know if he had stopped learning things when he came here but I knew his interest was piqued.

“Yeah, she has a wolf, she is smaller than a full shifters wolf. Also, she is not tall like us and heals at an intermediate pace when it comes to healing, not as fast as us, but faster than humans.” He furrowed his brows. “Interesting, I am guessing it can be a weakness when she trains.” Noel busted out laughing. My father looked at him and I said “No, actually the opposite, she is stronger than anyone in the pack, well except me.” Noel interjected “Yeah, I am positive she would kick my butt she certainly has the skill.” My dad was now seeming more confused.

“How is that possible, she is smaller and more like a human, if she can’t heal like a full shifter, how is she so strong?” Noel and I shrugged. I knew it was her training, and her being from an alpha line but I wouldn’t tell my dad that. “I am now really interested, anyways, is that why you came? You want your mothers wedding ring?” Okay he was jumping right in. “I don’t want moms wedding ring. I want her sapphire ring.” I told him. “I don’t really feel like parting with it. I mean I don’t want something of your mothers on someone I don’t know.” Fucking great I thought to myself.

“Dad you never leave this cabin other than to let your wolf out how the hell are you going to meet Lilith?” I asked and he narrowed his eyes, I didn’t know if it was because I said hell or another reason. He dropped the topic and went back to another one. “So, Noel how are you doing?” I rubbed my temples. He was always like this when we visited onery and impatient with a bossy dominance. “I am fine” He said with no kind of emotion. “Have either of you talked to your sister lately?” He then asked. I responded. “She and Lilith talk all the time. They text call and she came to visit not to long ago. Lilith actually is having Ellens pack come to this thing she is planning.”

He raised his eyebrow. “So, this mate of yours really must be a lady then if your sister likes her so much.” He seemed pleased by this. I knew the kind of women he valued. He thought our mother was the perfect example of how female shifters should be, and Ellen until recently was just like our mother. My father seemed pleased by this news.

“Do you boys want to go for a run?” He asked. I looked at Noel who just shrugged. “Okay” Our dad smiled. “He seems happy for once.” Noel mind linked. I agreed he was being more pleasant than the last time we had been here. “He thinks Lilith is like mom and that makes him happy that I am mated to someone like that.” I mind linked Noel. “Lilith is nothing like mom.” Noel replied. I knew that and I was glad she was so different. It made things interesting, and it was benefiting the whole pack. My mother was not horrible in fact she was extremely sweet, but she was a lot like my father and loved morality to the point it was much to forced. I knew that was how she was raised but it was extreme she thought cursing was the worst thing and that women should be covered to the point almost nothing was revealed and though anything with sleeves that went above the elbow were too revealing.

Noel and I shifted outside as did our father and we began to run. Axel liked my father's wolf and always liked being around him in the past. But I noticed he was not having as much fun as he had in the past. “Axel what is up?” I asked my wolf. “He hates Kali.” He spoke. “He doesn’t even know her; he can’t hate her.” Axel said over our bond “He hates any wolf with a black coat, Kali has that. He just mind linked me telling me he found a Draco wolf over three months ago and shredded the thing. He was bragging about it.” I responded immediately. “Did he say where, the Draco Pack could be close if he saw one. Axel, you need to find out more, this could be a clue to where they went.”

Axel knew I was searching for them, so Lilith could meet her dad. I didn’t know if Kali had talked to Axel about it. I didn’t know if she wanted to meet her creator or not. Lilith had the desire to, but I had no idea about her wolf. Axel finally responded. “He said he had only seen the one. He didn’t track him, but he seemed much too thrilled by the idea. I hope he doesn’t if he finds them, they will murder him. He can’t take on a whole pack alone.” “Well tell him that” I instructed my wolf. “I think he won’t, thank fuck.” Axel told me. I was relieved. But maybe now I had a heading and could send those tracking in this direction. The scent they picked up was about two hours from here, so I had thought nothing of it.

We ran for over and hour before returning. We dressed and went back into the little cabin. “You guys want a beer?” Dad asked and Noel and I agreed. “So, Eric do you have a picture of your mate. I am curious what she looks like?” I grabbed my phone and went scanning through my pictures, I smiled seeing some of the inappropriate ones. My jeans constricted seeing her naked body. Noel knew what was happening when I adjusted myself and was snickering and sent a mind link. “Smooth” I ignored him.

I found one of her that wasn’t naked and opened it and showed it to my dad. “She is pretty, young but pretty. How old is she?” He asked. “18” I responded. He then asked. “How long ago did you find her?” He asked and I told him a few months ago. “Is she pregnant.” I shook my head. “Why not?” He demanded. “Because we want to wait.” I replied confidently. “Eric, you know you need an heir,” I glared at him. “I know Dad, just drop it we will get around to it.” I spoke My dad glared back at me. Noel tried to break the tension. “So, dad, how is the hunting this season.”

Dad then turned his gaze to Noel “You are his beta why are you not reminding him of what he should be doing?” I snapped. “Dad you are not the alpha you don’t have control of how we do things so just drop it okay, it will happen not right now though. Lilith is still in high school okay just drop it.” He sighed taking a sip of his beer. “Maybe I should just come back with you, you know meet my new Luna.” Noel and my face fell.
