55. Noel and a Human

Noel finally arrived home. He had a little pep in his step. He looked up at me. His smile faded. I turned my head. “You hooked up with Juliet?” I asked and he blushed. “I know, it may be strange, but Eric I have been lonely you know that. And she looked so good and I just...” He trailed off. “I get it Noel, I get it. I am just surprised, not mad though. Is this a thing now? Are you two dating or was it just a one-time thing?” I wanted to know, seeing as Juliet was a human. I had never heard of a pairing like that. It simply didn’t happen. It had been a fluke that even Lilith was born.

I didn’t even know that a baby could be conceived from a shifter and human. “I don’t know Eric; we really didn’t discuss it. But I like her. She is very sweet and a little sassy. Not as bold as Lilith but I don’t think that kind of crazy is for me. Juliet she also funny and smart and just fun to be around. I don’t know?” I was happy for him, but also a bit worried. I knew Juliet would go off to college next year. Where would that leave my little brother. I didn’t want him to have that kind of heartbreak again.

It wasn’t just that. Humans did not have the same thing as shifters. We mated and bonded and it was for life. Humans could be finicky and do breakups and cheating. It was unheard of with shifters once they found their mate. I decided not to bring any of this up with my brother. He knew all of this already, I didn’t need to say anything. I smiled and said “You know she is going to tell Lilith all about it, the sex I mean.” Noel flushed and was beet red. “Crap, I didn’t think of that.” He replied and I couldn’t help but chuckle. “They are best friends Noel, I know Lilith was explicit with Juliet over text about or sex life. I am sure Juliet will do the same.” He looked at me.

“How do you know she told Juliet all about that stuff.” I grinned. “I looked over her shoulder and got a glimpse of some of the text.” Noel said. “Your sex life with you mate is out there for everyone in the pack, you guys fuck all over the packhouse, of course you don’t care.” I laughed. “Hey, maybe Lilith will tell Juliet she doesn’t want to hear about it. I mean you are like a funny brother to her not to mention her other best friend.” Noel nodded and I could see a faint smile. I liked that he liked Lilith so much. “So was it at least good, I mean being with a human?” He blushed again.

“Who knew they were so crazy.” I busted out laughing. I knew Lilith was insane in bed. She said she learned from others and their stories, I would bet Juliet was one of those people who divulged a lot of things to her, seeing how close they were. “Well at least you are happy. You are happy right?” I asked and he nodded. That was good. “Did you find out what happened with Bowie and Lilith.” I nodded “Come on lets grab a beer it is a lot to unload and I could use one.” Noel paused. “It is after twelve come on.” He laughed and we grabbed some beer and went outside.

I filled Noel in on Lilith's past. “That is fucking insane.” Noel said when I was done. “There is more.” I spoke. “You got to be kidding me, there is more than he being fed on from a Dahmir?” I nodded. “You know how Rob brought him to the game?” He nodded. “Lilith lost it. She threw coffee and lost it. She is done with Rob, like done, done. She had a lot of anger and hatred for the man.” Noel responded. “About dam time she figured out he was a fucking scumbag. Though I still feel bad for her, you know? I mean he was like a parent, and she trusted him, and he brings that asshole back. And he fucking knew what he did to her, it is just messed up.”

I didn’t disagree it was my thoughts exactly, but it was good that Lilith came to this conclusion on her own. I hated Rob, and I hated Bowie. I wondered what other things she had to endure throughout her child. I knew she had not had it easy it just seems like there was so much that had just gone wrong in her life. I hated it for her. I did have to say even with Rob just doing her flat out wrong, at least he guided her to find out how to deal with her wolf. He had at least done that, and that was something to be grateful for. But that is where my appreciation stopped when it came to him.

“Did you look up what Bowie did? Like why he went to prison?” Noel asked. “I was kind of waiting for you. Lilith doesn’t want to know. She said she wanted to nothing to do with Bowie. That pertains to his criminal history. I also would advise you not bringing him up at all.” Noel leaned back in the chair, sipping his beer. “I get that, what should I do if he shows up at the school. He won’t be able to come into the school, I know that. There is security there.” Then Noel said, “You know it is weird human schools to have security, it is weird.” I nodded. We didn’t have security at pack schools.

I answered his previous question “If Bowie shows up, let Lilith handle it to a point. She is not someone who needs others to fight her battles. But don’t let her out of you sight after school. If he is on blood, he is dangerous. Also I want you both to be on the lookout for anyone following you home. And Let Lilith drive home, no offence Noel, but she knows how to outrun cars. I never thought I would say this but the fact she was good at stealing cars may save her life.” Noel nodded.

“So should we go to the office and see if we can find out what Bowie did?” I asked. “Don’t you need to wait for Roxie she could pull up probably a lot on him.” I thought about it. I would ask her to look into him, but I knew I didn’t need a hacker to find out why he went to jail. That was public record. “We can find out what he did and then Roxie can do a full background check.” He nodded and we headed inside, grabbing another beer before going to my office. Noel dragged one of the chairs in the office behind my desk so the two of us could look at the computer screen.

It took a little work, but I found it. His picture was there, and he looked crazed in it. Both Noel and I read the record. He had assault. That was all that it said. Nothing about the victim or anything. How was he only given two years for that? Seemed like it should be more. Noel turned to me “Why was the sentence so short seems like assault should be longer.” I shrugged I didn’t know why the sentence was so short. It seemed wrong. “You need to have Roxie do some digging this is not enough to know. It seems like the sentence was short and I thought the crime would have been worse. Especially if he had been on blood.”

We both tried to do more digging but neither of us knew how to deep dive to find records of statements and details pertaining to Bowie’s arrest we would just have to wait for Roxie to find out more. “So where is Lilith?” Noel asked. “She went shopping with Roxie and Ellen.” I said and Noel turned his head. “She was up for that? She didn’t look okay last night” I just shrugged. “Well, I can’t imagine it is going well, considering she is with our sister. I love Ellen, she is our older sister after all, but she is a bit much. I wonder if Lilith has already lost it on her. Their values and personalities clash” I snorted and agreed. We both continued to drink. Another beer and just hung out sitting out front of the packhouse.

Suddenly a car pulled up it was the BMW and to my surprise Ellen was driving with Lilith in the passenger seat. The music was blaring, and it was not the music I knew my sister listened to. I looked at Noel who turned to me his eyes big. Ellen of course didn’t bother pulling the car into the garage. I saw my sister laughing and smiling at Lilith who was just as engaged with her. The girls got out of the car and Roxie, Ellen and Lilith were all smiling and seemed to be having a great time. Henry finally got out and went to the trunk.

Lilith looked up and saw me. She looked so happy. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. Lilith didn’t walk up to me she ran and jumped up. I was ready and caught her. Her mouth slammed into mine. I kissed her and she pulled away. She smiled broadly. My sister said nothing at this. What had happened. “I love your sister.” I never thought Lilith would say that. She got down and looked to see Noel and my beers. Then she turned to Ellen and Roxie. “I think we deserve Margaritas.” She announced and the girl laughed and seemed to like that idea. As they all headed into the house, Lilith stopped to my side. “We can grab the bags later.” She then gave me a quick kiss on the cheek and ran after the other two.

I finally turned to Noel he looked just as shocked as I did. “What the hell was that?” He asked and I just shook my head not knowing what to say. We both looked at Henry who was grabbing a few small bags. “What happened?” Noel asked. He looked so serious and spoke. “Your mate has a way of making everyone enjoy themselves and not giving two shits about expectations is what happened.” He had just sworn. I knew Henry he was my sister guard whenever she visited, I had never heard him swear. My sister would have scolded him relentlessly if he ever did that and here, he was saying shit.

“The girls by the way bought me some stuff, so if you don’t mind, I am going to go put my bags away, the rest of the trunk is packed full of stuff.” He walked off and Noel and I were standing there so confused how this all had happened.
