65. Get Up

Lillith

I snarled looking at Eric, I knew he was angry with me. Hell, I was angry at myself. I didn’t want to wallow in our bed for days, but Kali told me I couldn’t have a life any longer. I knew those were not her exact words, but it felt like that. It felt like she was punishing me, maybe she was, and maybe I deserved it.

Eric went to swing his fist, but I moved in time. I thrust my arm out and missed him. He moved faster than I thought someone of his size would, he was built like a boulderer and I thought that meant he would be slower, but he was fast. His legs swept me, and I fell. He looked down at me. “Fight Lilith you are not even trying.” I had no desire, so I just laid right there, not looking at Eric. He let out a growl and brought his leg like he was going to kick me.

My instincts kicked in and I grabbed his foot and brought down my other arm on his leg. He wobbled as I had injured his leg. I let him go and stood up facing him. He through another punch and I blocked it. I went to punch, and he blocked. It was like a dance; we were fighting in tandem with one another. He would move on me, and I would avoid his fist, and he would do the same, neither of us got in a single hit. He really was equal to me in terms of holding his own. I knew his wolf, Axel, could fight Kali and win but Eric and I were equal at least that is how it seemed.

Eric spoke as I packed up from his incoming punch “So do you want to hear the news?” One of my eyebrows rose as I through my punch which he deflected. “I take that as a yes, well You were supposed to start online school yesterday. I got you a new laptop and cleared out a room for you to use as an office.” I went to slam my elbow in his stomach, and he grabbed my arm shoving me back, he could have broken it if he had wanted to. “So, there is that Axel and Noel convinced me to let Juliet come by this weekend if you get your shit together, but only if you are back to being yourself.”

How dare he say if I am myself, what did he think I was someone else? I screamed running at him. “You are not paying attention Lilith; I know you can do better than this.” He spoke. I knew I was being sloppy with him talking to me like a child. “Also, I had Roxie look into the lawyer that has your information.” I glared at him and asked, “How did you get his name, I never told you that.” I spoke. He stared at me. “I went through your stuff until I found it.” I saw red, he went through my stuff. I jumped off my feet onto him. He caught me and I tried to beat his face in, but he was good at protecting his face.

“What right do you have to go through my stuff, that is mine.” I yelled and then was tossed back into the dirt. “Lilith I wouldn’t have had to if you spoke at all to me or anyone. Then you were in the bed when I was doing it. Had you cared to even look you would have seen me and could have told me to stop but you didn’t you just lay there.” I screamed throwing my hands all over the place.

I was acting childish, and I knew it. I was so dam pathetic and I could feel it inside of myself. “Do you want to know what we found, or more what Roxie found?” I nodded looking at him. “Good get up and we will continue, and I will tell you.” I nodded and rose. We went back to calculated fighting, which was more like sparing as both of us knew what we were doing. “Roxie found out that the lawyer works for Rob. He is on his payroll.” Eric said and I stopped suddenly and landed a punch to my cheek. I managed to stay upright. “Shit sorry” Eric said.

Just another bruise. This was bad. If Rob had employed the lawyer, it could mean a lot of things. Eric said, “He employed him a few years ago when you were 16, I think.” I looked at him. I was already in high school at that point so Rob would not have known him before. I had worried that if he had the lawyer in his back pocket, he could have actually known my father. But that was not the case seeing as he didn’t employ the guy until two years ago. But with the pictures he presented, and him hiring the guy with all the information, he knew things. He had not lied when he gave me the photos. There was more than he knew.

“Before you decide to run off, we are looking into the origins of the photos. There is stuff in the background, and we are trying to find out where exactly then we can go there and look for clues, and with you doing school from home, you will have time to partake in this search.” Eric said. I nodded. I straightened my spine. “Are you done being a vegetable and ready to get back to the land of the living because honestly a lot of shit has to be done, like I don’t know you training the pack. They have not done anything while you have been lying in bed feeling sorry for yourself.”

I nodded “Good, now you are going to let Kali out to run and spend time with Axel, I am sure after they have time together, she will go back to speaking with you.” I bit my bottom lip. “What?” He yelled. I walked up to him slowly. It was obvious he was still pissed that I had thrown a tantrum. He looked down at me and I got on my tippy toes and smiled kindly. He bent down now realized I wanted a kiss. He wrapped his arms around me, and he had dipped down right as his face got close, I brought my fist up and punched him the jaw and pulled away.

“Don’t go through my fucking shit, mate or not I will fuck you up. Also, that is for no doubt bruising my cheek.” I gave him a small smile. Feeling quite satisfied as I began to strip out of my clothes. I could feel Eric’s eyes on me as I got naked giving him a clear view of my body. I knew it still looked in rough condition. It had only been a few days and though I healed faster than humans I would wear bruises like these for a while. I smiled at Eric and gave him a wink as the last of my clothes fell to the ground. “Kali, want to run? "I asked the wolf in my head.

She didn’t respond but I felt her consume my body and I knew I had shifted. I watched through her eyes as she ran, Axel was not in sight through her eyes, but he was close. “I am sorry okay; you were right of course.” I told Kali in my head. “Of course I was right.” She responded. “I don’t know what is wrong with me, I just froze up and needed time.” I told her. “You are so young and that is apparent sometimes.” I scoffed in my head and said “I am older than you.” Kali was quick to respond “No, that is where you are wrong wolves mature faster than humans. It takes you like 25 years for your mind to mature mine was done in 2 years.”

She had a point, I guess. “Can we just go back to where we were? Like you said my brain is not all the way developed and I just had a freak out. You know that is not like me. You know it Kali, you know I love you and I do a lot to make you happy. I won’t even go against your wishes and won’t go back to the city without Eric.” Kali agreed. “Thank you, and I am sorry, I really am.” Kali said then “You might want to divert your eyes because Axel is about to catch me, and well you know.”

Gross, I don’t need to think about wolves fucking. I thought and let me be pushed from her eyes. I leaned into the darkness when I heard a mind link from Eric “Work things out with Kali?” He asked. “Yes” He was silent over the link for a while and then said, “Sorry about going through your stuff, I didn’t think it would make you so mad.” I told him. “I don’t really care, since it was you. But, in foster care people always went through my stuff, I hated it then and so I kind of overreacted. You are not like those humans, and I know it. Just caught me off guard. It really is fine Eric.”

“Lilith you never talk about that time.” I didn’t respond to his mind link for a while. “Eric, foster care is not pleasant for anyone, not unless you get into a good placement, and you are with that placement for a while. You never know where you will be or with who. You don’t even have time to get your things. I had to lug around a trash bag with my stuff in it. I don’t care to relive that experience.” I was not going to tell him about the sick things that would go on in the system nor did I particularly want to talk about that time in my life.

I didn’t divulge that to anyone, there were few who understood it but none of us discussed it. Eric asked me. “Are you happy about Juliet coming this weekend?” I responded over the link. “Yes, I would like to see her. But she is going to flip with my face like this.” I knew what would happen. She would freak out but there was nothing I could do about it. “Want to tell me how this will work with all of us shifters here and a human being amongst us?” I asked over the link.
