93. A Call on the Road

I watched Lilith as we got back in the car. “Do you want to go to a store maybe look at some baby things?” I asked. I figured maybe she would like that. Lilith looked at me like I was nuts. “No, I don’t even know what the hell we are supposed to get? Why would we go if we had no idea? Unless you know?” I had a little idea of what to buy. Noel was younger than me, but my father had made it clear that I was not to focus on becoming an alpha and leave the child rearing to my sister and mother.

“Yea maybe we should wait.” I said and Lilith nodded. “I do need some new jeans though; it has only been a few weeks, and these pants are starting to get a little to snug.” I raised my eyebrow. I had no idea. Over the last few weeks Lilith has almost always been in clothes. I at first thought it had to be trauma from being naked while she was gone but then I noticed she was always wearing thick socks. So, I was now thinking she just didn’t want to be cold, and it was winter so that was a good possibility. “But we don’t have to, my sweatpants still fit and so do my leggings, so it isn’t like the most important thing.” Lilith said.

I looked at her “We can get you new jeans Lilith.” I said. I had assumed she would be needing new clothes anyways. She was so tiny and now she was growing three babies. It was bound to happen. “Eric no it is fine.” I looked at her confused. “Can we just go home I want to be home; I am tired.” She said yawning. I nodded and took her home. She fell asleep soon after we began driving. It was actually a good thing she didn’t want to stay and shop in the city. It was something that could be risky. I hated that we had to return to this city for her appointments. But Doctor Jane Brown was the best within a reasonable distance.

I drove and Lilith remained asleep. She seemed to be doing better with everything. She got back into a routine, and that seemed to bring her back to her old self. The pack was more relaxed now that she was out an about again. Noel, Lilith, and I kept a lot of the details of the kidnapping to ourselves. They really didn’t have a full grasp of what happened. Lilith had been adamant they not know about Bowie and what he was capable of. Saying it would just cause panic. It probably would have. Besides us tree only a few others knew of what happened. Obviously, the guys that came from Rob’s knew and their mates, but none of them were permitted to talk about it. My phone started ringing and I picked up not bothering to look who was calling.

“Hello” I said and then a voice came through. “Alpha Eric, you have my girl, don’t you?” Rob, it was Rob. “How did you get this number?” I asked. “Do you have her is she safe?” He asked again. “No thanks to you.” I felt him sigh. How the hell did he get my number? Better question was why was he calling me to check up on Lilith? He didn’t care about her, he just wanted to use her. “Rob Lilith is none of your concern, we all know you don’t care about her. You think she is just something to use, well she isn’t.” Rob responded “You think it matters that I wanted to use her? I made her, she is who she is because of me. I do own her that fucking Bowie thought he could take her well he was wrong. He sure as hell knows that now.”

What did that mean? Did he get Bowie. “Rob what did you do?” I asked. I needed more information. “Well, I just took care of some trash is all. Lilith can tell you all about that, But the fucker wouldn’t give up any details on her.” So, he killed Bowie? How had he managed that. “Now be a good dog and put Lilith on the phone. I need to talk with her.” I growled through the phone. “Your pathetic growl does nothing, let me talk to her.” He spoke. What the fuck. Lilith tapped my shoulder. “Give me the phone Eric” she said. When did my mate wake up, she was fast asleep a second ago.

“Lilith you shouldn’t speak to him.” I told her. “Please give me the phone Eric.” She seemed so calm; I was still driving so I passed the phone to her. “Put it on speaker phone.” I mind linked and she nodded. “Rob” she said, making her voice seem calm. “Oh, it is so good to hear your voice. It has been months since I heard it.” Lilith remained calm and didn’t reply. “I am so sorry to hear about what happened. Bowie told me everything, well he didn’t want to, but you know how I can be persuasive.” Lilith still didn’t speak. “Lilith darling please talk I miss your voice.” My hands squeezed the wheel hard. I hated him speaking to her like that.

“Rob, I do know that you are persuasive. I also told Bowie he was stupid and that you were smarter than him and would find him. I am not surprised you did.” I heard the slight chuckle on the other line. “Nice to see you still defended me even if we are fighting.” She sighed and spoke. “Rob we are not anything because we are nothing.” He was quiet. “Well, you at least know me. Anyways, I got you a little make up present.” She didn’t say anything. “I am glad you asked what it is.” I knew he was being a sarcastic prick. He went on. “I took care of those pesty humans, he had in the city. You know he had the gall to team up with that idiot Bjorn. They were both bad for business, can you believe they tried to take our empire.” Lilith cut in. “Your empire you mean?” Rob’s disturbing laugh cut through the phone.

“Lilith dear you helped make it, so I would say it is ours. But anyways back to what I was saying. I have a present for you. I have Bowie, I thought maybe you would like the revenge you deserve. I know Kali at least would like it.” Lilith took a deep breath. “Rob just kill him and get it over with, you hate him just as much as I do. I know your empire is the most important thing to you and you have no room in your black soul for forgiveness so kill him, I know you want to.” Again, that laugh came through. “Lilith, I saved his death for you. I knew you deserved to be the one to kill him. Now why don’t you come to the gym and seek your vengeance. You could even bring Eric with you. I know he too probably wants to enact some revenge for what he did to you. I mean he.” Lilith shouted into the phone. “Don’t you dare fucking bring up whatever he told you.”

Lilith pushed some hair from her face. Rob said, “You didn’t tell your mate, did you?” I glanced at Lilith who was avoiding looking at me. Did she not tell me everything? “Is he listening? Is that why you don’t want me to say anything?” Rob said. “Drop it Rob just kill him, be done with it. You know I am never coming home.” I knew I was over analyzing things, but she had just referred to Rob’s as her home. I knew I didn’t want to bring that up, in the future. It made sense his home and gym had been Her's for many years. “Lilith come on, you want to do it yourself, it would make Kali happy. You know she likes killing. I mean she has done it before, and should I bring up when you came to visit me. Did you really didn’t think I wouldn’t find out about the truck driver.”

I looked at my mate who looked furious. What truck driver? Did she really kill someone recently. I knew she had visited Rob the day she went to get a car, but that had not happened. “You know I am not one to judge, but you are a killer and we both know it come home, and you can have your revenge. I also have the information on your father I know you wanted it, and with you no longer going to school, how do you plan to find him.” Lilith was red in the face.

Rob then spoke again “You know how persuasive I can be. Now Bowie has not given up where you are, but it is only a matter of time. If you come kill him, you will be able to keep that secret for yourself. I would hate to have to come find you just so I could see you. But you also know how patient I am. I can wait him out, he eventually will tell me. Then I can come visit anytime I want.” Lilith screamed into the phone “If you step foot on my pack land, I will kill you!” Rob was chuckling. “Well, someone has fallen into the Luna role, I must say I always knew you would be a good one. Just you are in the wrong pack for that, don’t you think? With Kali and your urges, not to mention that mouth of yours, they are not your people. I raised you to be in the city.”

He went on. “I have to say that what happened to Bjorn is nothing short of your rage.” Lilith lost it she started screaming. “Shut the fuck up! Shut up! Shut up!” I took the phone. She was getting beyond agitated This kind of stress was not good for her health especially since she was pregnant. I hung up the phone. When we got home, I would have to block his number. How had he even gotten it. I looked at Lilith who had turned to look out the window. I had questions. Like what he was talking about that she didn’t want me to know? Also, what had she done to Bowie? Then there was the fact that Rob had mentioned a truck driver, did Lilith kill someone I didn’t know about, or was it Kali?

There were answers I wanted. Before I even could say anything, Lilith addressed me. “I don’t want to talk about any of that. And no, you do not need to know any of it, it will just upset you.” I wanted to know about it. But it was clear the topic of her imprisonment was off the table at the moment, but maybe she would share about the truck driver. “What about the truck driver?” I asked Lilith let out a sigh. “He was a fucking rapist who smelt like shit, he tried something, so I killed him. I probably saved a lot of other women and girls. And before you ask, I was hitchhiking that day and no it was not Kali it was me. And no, I don’t regret it.” I was shocked but also not overly upset over that. It was more defensive it sounded. But she had acted like it was such a good day when she had come home that day, that is what was concerning.
