40. She Needed To
Eric
Noel had texted me asking where Lilith was? I had to fill him in, and he seemed okay with it. “You didn’t tell her she broke my nose and jaw, did you?” He asked over mind link. “Of course I did that was hilarious.” I knew he was embarrassed. It was funny. He of course was no doubt already healed but still she had done that. “I didn’t need her to know that, she will hold it over me forever.” I was once again laughing at my brothers' antics.
I mind linked him. “Whatever Noel today is going to be absolutely horrible. At least you will be here to help sort things out. I mean the elders and the rest of the pack want answers about Kali dragging a ripped-up corpse to the packhouse. But I actually have a plan on what to do about that. It occurred to me last night.” Noel then responded. “Okay what is the plan? You still didn’t tell me what exactly happened that night. I mean I know about the bear trap, but the other stuff. You said you would be clueing me in.” Noel mind linked me.
It was better I thought that we were having this conversation over mind link. If we were talking in person someone may overhear us. “Eric, you going to fill me in or not?” Noel asked. I responded to my younger brother. “Yeah, okay so Kali didn’t just kill the poacher responsible for my injury. That was who she brought to me. I think Kali wanted to show me she took care of the problem.” I took a pause, and Noel had not said anything yet.
I went on over the link “But it was not only that. When Kali reached him, he was in a group of other poachers, Kali thought they were a threat to the pack, and me. She killed the whole group of them.” I stopped linking then. I was not going to mention the brutality or anything like that. He did not need to know. Noel responded. “Well, I am not saying I am sorry to see poachers dead. They are assholes and have no morals. But the elders won’t like it.”
He went on, “They are very against killing humans. I think we could smooth over what she did to the one responsible for injuring you. She is your mate, and they elders will understand how the mate bond would drive her wolf for vengeance. What she did with the body will disturb them no doubt and that she brought the man to you as some kind of prize will make them uncomfortable, but I think we can manage to get them to not be overly harsh.”
Apparently, he has a lot to say because Noel then continued. “As for the others, I personally am glad. What if they got to close to the pack, that would be dangerous I mean think of the younger kids here. What if they found out what we were that would be even worse. But I think, and I am saying this as your Beta, I would not let the elders, or the pack know she killed more than one human. No matter that it was justified and made sense, they will just use it to make it harder for Lilith and Kali to integrate.”
I was glad he saw it my way. Noel then asked over the mind link. “Do we need to go clean up the bodies, I mean what if someone finds them. Could it lead the back to here. I don’t mind doing it if you want me to?” I sighed I had an answer for that too. “No, do not go clean it up. It is far from the pack land, and no one will be searching for them. Poaching is illegal and no one would want to send a search party if those they were searching for were breaking the law. Not to mention various animals have already probably gotten rid of the evidence for us. Not to mention Kali is a fairly small wolf, they wouldn’t know that she was not a regular wild wolf. There is no evidence of a shifter due to her size. If it had been me then yeah, the marks on the bodies would tell them there was a massive animal in the woods.”
I went on. “Also, after both you and I talk to the elders and possibly address the whole pack, because you know her dragging a ripped-up body back, will get the whole pack talking, we should explain. If they need more answers, they can address them with their Luna themselves, maybe before she trains them. But like you I think she did nothing wrong.” Noel agreed with me. “Where is my Luna anyways, you said she was ditching school. Any ideas on what she is doing or where she is?” Noel asked.
“Yeah I have no idea. I think she probably went to the city. I would guess she is visiting Rob, I have no doubt that she called him before she fell asleep in the cellar.” Noel responded. “I hate that guy, maybe you should talk to your mate about the truth. I mean I get it she loves him like family but you and I both know he has something wrong with him, and not just the crime he is involved with.”
I was starting to think that may be the best thing to do. I didn’t like the influence Rob had over my mate. Lilith had no idea that he was a rogue which meant he really was worse than an average criminal. He had done something so heinous that his own kind turned on him and that took a lot to do, seeing as shifters were so closely linked, especially packs, they were family in a sense. “You still planning on a BBQ next Sunday and having the guys you met at Robs come?” Noel asked over the link. “Yes, I think they need to see the good, and like I told you they are not really involved in crime. I mean one of them is, but it is not even close to the caliber of Rob, or even Lilith.”
Noel I knew was okay with that plan. “I already know you will inform the pack of them coming. Maybe it would be best if I present that, like it was my idea. I mean it sort of was. I was the one to bring it up to you.” I nodded and responded. “Yeah, good idea and yes all hail the beta of grey crest pack.” I knew he was laughing at my mind link. “All right well when do you want to call a meeting with the elders. I figure, them first and how they act will determine if we meet with the whole pack.” Noel linked. I agreed and we set a time.
