56. Broken Phone
Lilith
I woke up to my phone ringing. I groaned, I had three margaritas last night, and though I didn’t get fully drunk I had been tipsy. I just wanted to sleep. I noticed Eric was already up, most likely making sure everything was running smoothly for the BBQ later in the day. I rolled onto my side, to see who was calling. Rob, that idiot had the gall to call me. After bringing around that psycho. I ignored the call, when he called again, I didn’t answer. Then the text came in.
“Lilith we should talk, I need to explain.” Yeah, there was no explanation that would make me feel less betrayed. I didn’t want Rob in my life anymore. Kali stirred on my mind saying “He is a fucking idiot. Oh, and he screwed up so bad, he is not getting any of the loot from yesterday.” I snorted, she was right though I wouldn’t give him anything, and I had gotten some good stuff yesterday. Neither Ellen nor Roxie caught me, I was that good. I was sly sliding some things in my purse, and with the amount of money I dropped yesterday the store clerks had no idea I was stealing.
I ignored the text and got up and stretched. It was nice. “Kali tonight you are going to go for a long run, maybe with the pack, seems like a good day for it.” She cheered in my head at my declaration. I cracked my neck and mind linked Eric. “Goodmorning Mate.” I still found it a bit odd having more than Kali in my head, but I liked it. He responded. “Goodmorning, glad to see you woke up.” I looked at the time, 10 am. “It is still the morning.” I mind linked. “Yes, but you normally get up at 7-8am on the weekends.” I smiled. “It is cute you know my schedule.” I was living in a fairy tale I told myself.
I have a fucking hot mate, who is obsessed with me, fast cars at my disposal, money, and a awesome place to live. Kali butted in. “About dam time, it only took 18 years to get out of that shithole city.” I laughed. “Why don’t you get ready and eat something, then maybe come help with preparations.” Eric suggested. “Preparations, are BBQ’s big deals?” Eric responded. “Yes, and we have guests coming remember. Want to make a good impression.” I was hoping the three guys from the gym, that Eric invited, joined the pack. I never thought they would be good company, but the time I spent with Marcus at the garage, told me he was actually fun to hang out with. “I will do whatever I can to help, I am Luna after all right? Isn’t that my job? Oh, but tell me this is not formal right?”
“Yes, a good job for the Luna. And no, Lilith it is informal. But still want everything to be the best it can be.” I responded. “I am your gal then. I will see you soon.” I dropped the mind link and headed to the shower. I was as fast as I could be grabbing ripped up jeans and a backless body suit to go under. I looked hot once I applied my makeup and put my hair up in a messy bun. Sexy but casual. I liked how I looked. “Of course you are smoking.” “Thanks Kali, you are a good looking wolf too.” She responded. “I know.” I snorted so so vain.
I walked back out and grabbed my phone, there was a long message from Rob and one from and unknown number. I opened the one from the number I didn’t recognize first. “I want to apologize. Please can we talk, can you just call me. I think we should talk, maybe you could come by Robs. Oh this is Bowie by the way this is my new number.” My face soured. What an asshole no, I am not going to talk to you. And there would be no forgiveness for trying to rape me, and then attempting to murder me. Fuck him. I was fuming when I clicked on Robs message.
“Look, I know your mad, about me bringing Bowie back into the fold. I get it I do. I know he hurt you. He is off blood Lilith he said he never wants to drink it again. He swore to me, and he didn’t drink any in prison, it was like a rehab for him. You know before the blood he was good at what he did. I need someone like that, just like I need you. Look just come down to the gym tomorrow we can work this out. You know I love you, if I thought he would hurt you again, I never would have let him come back. You are the most important person to me, trust me like you always have. I would never hurt you.” I screamed and threw the phone down and stomped on it screaming “Fucking Liar, I hate you, I fucking hate you.” I sighed.
I would never step foot in his gym again. Like Bowie what he did was unforgivable. “He is a liar, and we are better off without him.” Kali said and I nodded. “Now shake this off, you are going to have a good day, and then I get to run later.” I took another breath and squared my shoulders. I would have a good day, I commanded myself. I left the room. I stopped by the kitchen; not particularly hungry I just grabbed an apple and headed outside. I mind linked Eric. “So where is my knight in shining armor.” I snorted at my own cheesiness. “By the lake. I see you are in a mood today.” I headed that way. “I am determined to have a good day. Oh and I need a new phone.” I mind linked.
“What happened to yours?” He asked. “It is broken on our bedroom floor.” He didn’t respond right away. “What happened to it?” I sighed, embarrassed by my own anger but Kali said “Why? Those guys were assholes I am surprised it was just the phone.” I rolled my eyes and responded to Eric over mind link. “Two slim balls messaged me, and my phone got the brunt of my anger.” “I can get you a new phone, plus I will put you on my plan. And it will be a new number, so you don’t have to worry about them messaging you anymore.” I was relived. “Sorry I am so high maintenance, spending all your money and stuff.” Eric said. “Please, I already told you money will never be a problem, you could go buy an island for all I care. And Lilith you are not high maintenance.”
I was glad he felt that way. We stopped mind linking. I tossed the apple core far into the woods. God, I had a good arm. I finally got to the lake and Eric was standing there. I ran up to him to tap him on the shoulder. He turned around and smiled. I felt all giddy. He pulled me into a searing kiss and I felt the eyes on us. When he pulled away I stood on my tippy toes. I wanted to whisper something. He leaned in. You look hot, and I want to fuck you.” He pulled away and I grinned.
“Don’t tease me.” He said. “I am not teasing, that is what I want, I would have done it this morning but you were not in bed.” I said. He grabbed me again pulling me into his hard chest by my ass. Kissing me. He mind linked me as he kissed me. “I like how soft you skin is.” He said as one of his large hands slide up my backless bodysuit. “No bra today? That is sexy.” I pulled away to giggle and gave him a wink as I walked away. I could feel his eyes on me and I smiled. “So what do I need to do?” I asked turning back around to face my mate. “Well we are setting up the fire pit now so if you want you can help stack the bricks. Or you can tell them where to put the tables.” I looked around at the massive pile of stuff that still needed to be set up. “I could string some lights?” I had seen a bunch wadded up on the pile.
“Go for it.” Eric said and I began to untangle them. I felt eyes on me and I turned to look. It was some of the young men in the pack. “Instead of staring why don’t you help me.” I tried to keep my voice jovial and even and kids nodded and began to assist. That task was done faster then inspected. I found my grove and was moving tables and talking with pack members. It all seemed to be going well. I had no dirty looks from the women, or men. They were talking to me. Things seemed to be changing. Was it because I joined the pack link? Or was it because I had killed Ferris and proven myself.
“Does it matter Lilith?” Kali asked. “Not really.” Everything went by fast. “Eric?” I called out. He moved and came next to me. “What is up?” I looked around. “I thought it was a BBQ?” He responded. “It is.” I looked around again. “Then where is the grill for cooking the meat?” He laughed. What was funny? “We are smoking it, some of the guys buried it last night.” What did he mean they buried the meat. I had never heard of this. Seeing my confusion he explained. “So, we wrap the meat and burry it in the ground and then light a fire on it.” He pointed to a place that was a good distance from where we sat everything up. I could see smoke.
“The females in the pack tear it up when it is done, and then everyone else brings sides I provide the buns, meat, and drinks, and then the rest of the pack brings a bunch of side dishes and desserts. It is a potluck and BBQ at the same time.” That was really cool. I had certainly never had anything like that. I had burgers and hotdogs at Rob’s house over the years and even sometimes in the parking lot at the gym but nothing like this. Eric pulled out his phone. “The guys are almost here, we should great them at the packhouse. I want to give them a tour when they get here before we go eat and hang out.” I nodded. As we walked hand in hand I was in good spirits.
