Chapter 101
Silence was deafening.
Everyone was waiting for Harmony"s answer. Drake"s grandmother wanted to hear her side of the story.
Harmony could hear her heart pounding so fast. She felt like she had swallowed her tongue because no words could come out from her mouth.
What should she be saying? She couldn"t understand why Elisa had to team up with Auntie Carmella to put her and Drake in this kind of situation. What have she done to her? That she needed to confess everything that she heard? What could she get out of this situation?
Just like a bulb lit up, an idea came inside her head. Probably, Elisa was offered a big amount of money that"s why she was with Auntie Carmela. She knew how desperate Drake"s Auntie was so it was not impossible. But how did they met each other?
She let out a deep sigh as she tried to comfort herself. She had to calm down so she could tell everything that happened and what she was feeling at the moment.
And, of course, she should be ready of what Drake"s Auntie would going to say and ask to her. She knew that Auntie Carmela would do everything that she could to ruin her and Drake.
It was pretty obvious that she wanted Drake to be disinherit. She wanted to have the inheritance herself and her children but that was just so impossible to happen because Drake was the only grandson who was carrying Villarama"s last name.
So, she knew that no matter what she did, Drake"s grandmother never listened to her and that"s where she was coming from.
"Harmony? Are you going to say something or just stare to nowhere like stupid woman?" Auntie Carmela said without holding her tongue. She knew that she hated her but not to this extent.
She was pretty obvious that in her words, she wanted to say to her, just to admit the truth.
But the truth was, what Drake said. They have started a relationship in a weird way, but they were unable to control themselves no matter how they tried.
It was so hard for her not to fall in love with him despite of what their contract says. She tried so hard to stop herself, but she was unable to do that. Every day, every passing day with Drake, what she was feeling developed. No matter what she did, no matter what she thought about Drake. She couldn"t help but fell for him. Drake had been gentleman to her. He had always something to make her happy and she didn"t know if the man even purposely doing that because just like her, he started to like her. And the man couldn"t just admit that to himself because she knew from the very start how conceited he was and how proud Drake was to himself. In fact, even if they were pretending, she hated him. She hated him because he was trying to control her. He wanted her to follow everything that he was saying but she wouldn"t do that.
She took a deep breath and then looked at Drake and his grandmother.
She knew that once she told them the truth, there was no way of backing out.
She looked at everyone and then she coughed to clear her throat.
"So, Elisa"s story is right. That"s how I and Drake met each other and there"s no way in the world that I would be denying that. Because everything wouldn"t make any sense if I would be denying the truth. At first, I hated him for approaching me, he was conceited and so proud of himself. I really hated him and that"s why we came up with the contract. I didn"t let him take control of me nor the situation because I know to myself that Drake needed me more than I needed him. And, I succeeded. He promised me a percentage of his inheritance once he claimed it. So, the night he introduced me to the Villarama family and that was the start of me knowing the truth about Drake Villarama. I have been spending almost my everyday with him and I can say that he is so far from the man that I knew from the start. He brought me to a place that I never thought I would see. We watched the fireflies as they find their partners. He protected me with everything. He had been there in the darkest moment of my life. He helped me without asking anything in return. In fact, I already don"t have a face to show up to him, but he is always there no matter how I say make him feel rejected. He loves me as he confessed to me when he saw my ex-boyfriend Paul trying to come back in my life. And I must admit that I didn"t say anything about what I feel towards him. You know why?" She said and then she looked at Auntie Carmela who was shocked. It was as if the woman was expecting them to deny everything, but she was wrong. They were both ready to confess everything to everyone and even to Drake"s grandmother. "I don"t want Drake to feel that I love him because of the things that he is giving to me and the help that he gave to my family. I love him yes, but I don"t want to give the people around us an impression that I only chose him because of his wealth. Because, the truth is, I will accept him even if he wouldn"t have any inheritance from his family, I believe in his skills and in his ability. I know that he will be a successful businessman and he can make his own name in the business world. I believe in him even if no one wanted to believe him. I guess, that"s what happens when you are in love, you just accept and believe to that person no matter what," she exclaimed.
Harmony didn"t care what the people at the party would be saying about her. She just told them about everything that she felt. Every word that she uttered came from her heart and no matter what Auntie Carmela would say, there would be no way in the world that she would be taking back all the words that she said.
"So, are you trying to fool us? Of course, you will be saying that because you wouldn"t want the inheritance to be taken away from Drake," Auntie Carmela said while she was shaking her head. It was pretty obvious that the woman didn"t believe them.
"No, actually, grandmother, I am not taking the inheritance anymore. I am also not taking the position as the chairman of the company if this will make Auntie Carmela better," he said while looking at his grandmother. "I admit that I have done everything that woman said but because I don"t want to marry just anyone. So, I have been so stupid and thought of having this contractual relationship with Harmony. And I must admit that I was the one who breached the contract because I failed to control myself. I wasn"t able to stop myself from falling in love to Harmony. I know and I understand everyone if you wouldn"t believe me but that is the truth. I understand your reaction, Auntie Carmela and I couldn"t blame you with that. So, grandma, dad, I am giving away the shares to make me a chairman. But I am taking what grandpa had left to me," he said while his gaze was with his father.
"Drake, don"t decide in a hurry. This must be carefully thought. You cannot just give up that position," his father said while looking at him. "Let"s hear your grandmother what"s her stand with what happened. Let"s wait for her decision," he added.
The old woman was just looking at her and Drake. It was as if she was weighing everything that she said as well as Drake. As for her, everything that she said was true. She didn"t hide anything.
"I love you," she heard Drake whispered to her. "You don"t know how much you made me feel so happy. All along, I thought you love Paul that"s why you are avoiding me," he added.
Harmony just smiled at Drake. Even she didn"t think that she would be falling in love to him. It was something that she didn"t imagine even in her wildest dream. But as they said when you were struck by love, there would be no way that you can avoid it. All you have to do was just let fate do everything for the two of you because if you both were meant to be then no force in the universe could stop the love that you feel for each other. This what Harmony realized while she was in that moment.
Love moved her in the way that she never expected. She fell in love to a person that she never thought that she would meet in her entire life.
"I don"t know what to say to be honest but," the old woman smiled. "I believe Harmony and Drake. I know that they love each other but they were just having difficulty to express it because of the way that they have met and how their relationship started. They are right. Is it important how everything started? The most important thing now is that, Drake and Harmony loves each other. No one could fake the emotions that I have seen earlier when Drake proposed to Harmony," the old woman added.
Drake and Harmony smiled to each other and everyone was actually clapping.
"What are you saying mom? So you will just let Drake? What about what he had done? Wouldn"t you make action about it?" Auntie Carmela suddenly spoke. Harmony could feel the anger and dismay in her voice. It looked like this was not the scene that she was expecting to see. It was pretty obvious that her planned had failed.
Elisa was standing next to her and she was looking sharply at her. She was just shaking her head as a sign that she couldn"t believe what she had done.
"Mom?" Auntie Carmela said again.
"What do you want me to do? Take away everything from Drake? Is that what you wanted?" The old woman said as she shifted her gaze to Auntie Carmela.
"Auntie Carmela," Drake called his Auntie but she didn"t listen to him.
"Yes, mom. That what you should be doing because your grandson obviously tried to make a fool out of you," Auntie Carmela couldn"t be stopped. She looked like she would say and do everything that she wanted just for her plan to succeed.
"I cannot believe you, Carmela. How can you say that to Drake? When you and Nelson knew why he is the one inheriting everything for Villarama," the old woman said and they saw how Auntie Carmela turned pale.
"But mom," Auntie Carmela was still trying to prove her point.
"You are an adopted child. You are lucky enough that you and your children had percentage to the company. Wouldn"t it be so much if you will take away from the rightful heir what is meant to be his?" The old woman said which made them dumbfounded.
Drake was so shocked that his jaw almost dropped. He didn"t know if he heard his grandmother correctly.
"Mom but still I am a Villarama," she said.
"This is the end of discussion. Drake remains the heir of the Villarama company and no one else. Nothing can change my decision. I believe that this is the right thing to do, Carmela. If you don"t like what we gave you then donate it in the charity," the old woman said while looking straight to Auntie Carmela.
The shock and frustration was written all over her face. She couldn"t believe that her mother would be saying that in front of everyone, that she was just an adopted child.
